LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson is facing a new sex abuse allegation, this time from a man who claims the pop star molested him at least 15 years ago. The Los Angeles Police Department announced yesterday it is investigating the allegation, but would not disclose any other details. A brief LAPD statement said only that the man alleges he was sexually abused by Jackson in L.A. "in the late 1980s."
The man's allegations were referred to the department by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office about a month ago, the LAPD said. The new allegation comes as a Santa Barbara County grand jury is probing a 14-year-old cancer patient's allegation that he was molested by the singer at Neverland Ranch last year.
Jackson's lawyer, bound by a gag order, gave a careful response to the new claim.
"It is not possible nor practical to respond to every baseless rumor that arises on a daily basis, and accordingly we will not respond to this allegation that in all likelihood has been injected into the public arena by those seeking to compromise Mr. Jackson's right to a fair hearing on the present charges," said Benjamin Brafman, reading from a prepared statement.
