You know the song by La Rissa, "I do both jay & jane", Well is that really considered a freestyle song?

Depends on your view of what is or isn't freestyle. I don't think it is. I do, however, think her other song "Someone To Love" definately is. That one came out in 2000.

fantasy gerl,

To many la riss'a "i do both jay and jane" is considered a freestyle record. mostly a freestyle/breaks record. It even has other sides to the record that contains other beats and edits that are comon in freestyle records. well, common in the freestyle records from way back in the day, when people mixed and where creative.

there are people out there who dont consider a record to be freestyle, cuz some old school artist didnt put it out or someone with a freestyle face didnt put it out. there are alot of records out there like larissa that are considered freestyle or freestyle/breaks records to to their construction, beats, edits, harmonies, and above all their capabiltiy to be unique and (unlike many) hold commercial elements to be on radio.

"jay and jane" has all these, and had the good hook and the topic was very different. in some areas..very contreversial, as it has to do with bisexuality.a topic which is no big deal and very accepted in todays youth.

the record walks along the lines what lina santiago, angelina, x factor, planet soul or rockell's "fell in love" was many years ago.
many did not consider any of these people or their records freestyle when they first came out...becuz the "freestyle community" caimed it wasnt, since the records didnt come from people like lil suzy, cynthia and george lamond, etc or did not sound like the typical early 90's freestyle sound the community have stuck with or grown to expect from labels..

the new records are diferent and thats what we needed and will get, even if its not from the regular "freestyle" artist.

but yes, its mostly considered by djs and industry as a freestyle and breaks record.

and the name la Rissa means in SPANISH: the smile.

I forgot the girls name...but i know lewis martinee was working on the next release...but i think that was put on the shelf as there were conflict of interest between her and her managment/production team.or something like that.

i hope to hear more info and a new release from her as a solo artist and hope she comes back to the breaks and freestyle scene.

artist only come back to a scene if they are accepted by the community...and many "freestyle fans" are not as open to new artist with a new sound...as much as they are to previous artist and their classics. therfore we have alot of talent and djs that find the love in other genres and communities such as trance and house. So they put all their energy and creativity to those other genres and not freestyle.

Another pair of records you might want to check out that are also along these lines right now : "come into my dreams " by foggy

it is very catchy and has a good hook..singing over classic miami style bass beats (like many miami groups used to sing over them as well), contains the euphoric trance synth mixed with other synth elements and sounds you would find in other freestyle records (from cynthais change on me to early record as far as 83). you really have to sit there and hear everything carefully.

same with Diana fox's "where are you now"

and also check out..
although i really dont like the song ...roxanes "i wana dance with somebody".. which is basically whitney houstons "i wana dance with sombody" over the elctrofunk classic tour d'france.
yes, along the lines of "pressious lil fantasy".

which are also considered freestyle breaks records. but more electro freestyle than anything.
and are not from the typical "freestyle artist", so you will get a handfull of people bitching againts it. but then again, fromthe same people who were not there when all this began.

and back to Roxane's '"i wan dance with somebody"....
people can be better creative than that, i it doent inspire people to do somewhat the same.

thanks

There's a breakbeat remix of the song on the 12" that has more of a freestyle sound than the rave mix. It's kinda similar but it just switches through different beats for 9 minutes. It's dope

I think that topic was a very interesting switch for freestyle. Hell I think it was a pretty interesting topic for any type of music. I mean she definitely got people's attention.

rotflmao! Thank you, I've gotten lots of comments on it! 2 of my other friends have it also with their name !! hehehe :buggin

Someone to love was the second release from Larissa; interesting how amny consider it a freestyle record yet do not consider Sonique's original mix of "it feels so good" freestyle although it has the same hooks and instrumentation hehe

Also, in my opinion, Larissa's other release, the debut single "Jay and Jane" is definitely also 100% freestyle in my opinion.

IF this was planet soul, jocelyn enriquez, lil suzy or angelina singing "jay and jane"; it would have instantly been labelled as freestyle by many and would not be a topic of discussion.

nonetheless, those are great dance records; play'em loud!
