Yes KTU does play freestyle music, and the new york area is the envy of some many freestyle fans from outta state. But they constantly play the same established hits that have been around for the last 15 years. It's nice to hear but im sure we all have those same songs in our collections. i understand KTU's being a little hesitate to play new freestyle, i agree not all "so called new school freestyle is good. Some of these "new artists", i have never heard of!!

But the established artists, the ones who do have a fanbase and have had it for the last 15 years - i don't understand why they are hestitate to play their music. i was pleasently surprised when they decided to play " can you stand the rain" by safire & cynthia. And unless im retarted, it seem to be a big hit for KTU. a constant top 8 song since the 3rd day it hit the radio station and it stood on top for about 7 weeks straight. and all of the sudden, it's gone!! it wasn't even faded out slowly - just disappeared!

i rarely listen to the station until it started playing the duet, it was so refreshing to hear a sound that was so missed on radio.

new york needs a new true dance station, a station that isnt so concern with being number 1 - a station that will cater to the true new yorkers, and the tri-state area. new york is a dance town. HOT 103, took a chance back in the mid 80's and made it to #1, it broke in a new sound (freestyle & dance) was the envy of so many stations across the nation.

I don't see KTU losing if they played new music by our established stars (tka, safire, noel, etc..) these artists have been around a long time, and have the experience to know what they have to do to bring good music back to radio.

trust me, i dont want to hear freestyle 24 hours, i enjoy other music as well, but there is plenty of room for all types.

KTU NEEDS COMPETITION FROM A DANCE STATION, AND TRUST ME THEY WOULD CHANGE THEIR TUNE -

One day I promise I will be there representing Freestyle and the world will know that there are Freestyle Freaks that love Freestyle with all their hearts...you'll see. This market will have it's debut.

Please don't put down KTU but support them they are the only ones at this moment on the dance dial that is keeping Freestyle alive. But one day with God's help, I will be at the top and Freestyle will have it's chance you'll see I will pour out my heart and let my music speak for it's self.

I am far for done, and my fans and friends know me when I put my heart into it and prayer... the impossible is possible I have only to have faith.

I dont live in NYC but lets all boycott ktu,,,,,,,besides wasnt HOT 103 that created the trend that everyone across the country. CREATED A DANCE STATION....So let me ask people in NYC, do you prefer having the freestyle they play now or no freestyle what so ever....sounds to me that they play the same old freestyle songs over and over again, I ve been to the city to visit and KTU is not all that.....so sad, there is plenty of old school material to go around, I mean if they are so reluctant to play new freestyle, what about the old school sound after all that would be catering to fans that used to hang out in Roseland, Palladium, Emerald City, The Hideout, Tunnel, Mirage, and whole bunch of other clubs in Long Island and Jersey, so that would probably be demographics of ages between 26 and 33 yrs old, which is not old to me, after all that was my era....THE FUN DAYS, Radio is just pathetic, being a freestyle fan is very frustrating, you try to voice your support and opnion for the music, only to be trashed and bashed by the music industy, the black sheep of the dance music community, God again is gonna take a miracle, KTU will never change their format, I stick to my cds, the internet, and whenever I feel for a change of music I put on La Mega here in
Boston, for a little bit of salsa, bachata, merengue, or WBCN to hear little bit of POD, Linkin Park, etc, its so weird rock and spanish stations dont repeat music as often as these so call hip hop stations or top 40, a spanish station could play a song from El Gran Combo from my moms era and no one complains, just like a rock station could play Led Zepplin or Joan Jett and no one will bitch, about it.....Well I wrote to much and everytime I write to much I start making no sense...LOL...peace
 
I am very thankfull that KTU supports Freestyle Music on Sundays.
Johnny is there mixing in the new stuff. Judy Torres does a great job with the show.

So, we cannot complain. BUT I do
feel that KTU should add some new Freestyle to it's
regular rotation. There is new Quiality Freestyle music right now.

Let's first figure out Why they do not do it.
Then we can find ways to show them that it
will work. A MAJOR ClubFreestyle goal since day 1
was to open peoples ears to the Great Sounds -
Fans PLUS media people who can expose it.

see johnny, right there, thats why you are the man...never would turn his back on our music, never would deny his roots, wants to blow it back up the way it should be, wants to be a part of its resurgence...thats what it needs, a legend, one of the originals to take it and run with it dude and your one of those few hopes we have out there. it's gonna take something like that, an innovator from the start to jump back in and bring attention to it once again...thats where it all starts...tka, safire, george lamond, you, people like that who have had that past recognition and success...another one on top of those who have already thrown it out there once again is what its gonna take, the more the better, so god bless you, good luck, youve got all our support now go and make it happen bro!
 
Jack again I dont live in the city, but how do you grab a radio station attention to listen to freestyle fans, I dont think we are a minority, if anything we are a big portion of the people that listen to KTU, NYC is freestyle heaven, thats where it all began and evolved, along w/ house, hip hop, and other trend setting music, but how do you get a huge conglomerate radio station to listen......The reason I want KTU to support more freestyle, cause NYC is a huge market, if anything is the biggest market for television and radio, then I belive is LA, Chicago, Miami, if NYC starts the trend then we could have a domino effect,,,,,,,,all across the country,,,,and Johnny O good luck and I hope God will guide you to bring freestyle back to the map..Good luck w. the project I will be waiting......

TOp 8 at 8 with 40,000+ votes, and now all of a sudden a couple of weeks

it is bull. betcha it still gets lots of requests. i know some people in the radio biz, and speaking with them and just common sense tells you the reason radio sucks right now is due to big corporations like Clear Channel owning stations across America and making them sound the same. New York is actually lucky that KTU is one of the most unique sounding top40 radio stations out there. agree with Johnny O on that (p.s. get your stuff out there, hurry... I don't think I can wait!). but back to the B.S. about Safire/Cynthia being taken off the air so abruptly... probably a corporate decision...Safire and Cynthia do not have a music video on T.V., they are not on MTV's TRL, so I bet Cheap Channel takes them off because they will not be a widely known artist. again, another reason they were probably not added to the Miracle concert, they just want the artists you see on MTV everyday. I gaurantee you Safire and Cynthia would draw a crowd, and they still would be getting airplay if some smaller company owned the station and actually cared about the listeners.

yeah, they would drop the dance music. the new station wouldn't play as much freestyle either.
they would probably be like Party 105 which sucks as a dance station (almost no freestyle), and sucks donkey in the ratings with their 0.6. something like The Buzz in Atlantic City would be nice, or Party 95.3 in Orlando. too many stations have dropped their dance music when competition comes along.] a new dance station in NYC will give you less freestyle.

about boycotting KTU- not good, when they start losing the freestyle listeners and requests, then they may eventually eliminate freestyle alltogether, because they won't be hearing from the freestyle listeners anymore. what you need to do is call in and request ONLY freestyle, when they cut the midnight freestyle show, you should have called the f*ck out of the station complaining about it, and then have your mom, dad, and grandma do the same thing. then you call again a few minutes later and disguise your voice and say the same thing. then if you happen to get an arbitron diary, you fill out that you listen only during the hours when freestyle is on. you let those f**kers know what's going on! don't just complain about things, do something about it!

and, Mario, I agree, and give MAJOR props to Johnny O for staying true to freestyle and not being some sellout. with his work ethic, commitment, and faith I wish and believe he will only have success.

well, PARTY 105 may suck but i do recall them getting an exclusive interview with TKA weeks before KTU got to them! PARTY 105 was also holding the same calibre freestyle concerts as KTU a couple of years back. they supported freestyle too.

yeah they did give up on disco, and freestyle could be next. no joke. you see what they did with the late night mix. a friend of mine in radio told me a lot of radio stations are giving up on older music because of a ratings decline, mostly from rhythmic oldies. there is no knew music so people get bored. be careful with KTU, they could get rid of or at least lessen the amount of freestyle on the air.

First of all the station is called KTU...
G.O.D., he has nothing to do with this, he has bigger problems to deal with. There's a phrase that says "God helps does who help themselves"...so unfortunally Freestyle will stay dead in the water becuase they don't have the courage to say "I won't be abused anymore!". Until you guys stand up and demand respect as recording artists and people, you will never get the reginition that's long overdue. Johnny, I wish you the very best with your music, but I'll stay realistic, I'll buy your album to support you and I Pray that they play it on the radio station...."Highly Unlikely", I'm still waiting for TKA's new stuff to be played, George Lamond's new one, Safire's new stuff, Noel's new stuff, and any other of the original Freestyle artists.
I put this request on my Christmas list and Pray that Santa hooks it up!

Some of what you say may be correct, but there's a lot that you said that's not right on the money.
Amber does not have a video out on MTV, TRL, VH1, etc.....she doesn't even support KTU. She was a no-show at one of last year's KTU's events....to my understanding KTU said they would never play another record of her's or invite her to one of their events. Low-&-Behold a year later....she at Mircale on 34th Street....WHY? WHY? WHY? You explain it!

Kevin Ceballo who also doesn't have a video on MTV, TRL or Vh1, performed at HonkaBonkas, was excepted warmly, and none of the Freestyle Artists dissed him. He was treated like one of the family. There's definitly a Double-Standard going on, Freestyle artists are good enough to be Pimped to make the station money, but not good enough to perform at Madison Square Garden. It makes me sick to my stomach!
It's the reason why these artists are on Mircale on 34th Street, it's plane and simple, they're not Freestyle Artists.
KTU treats Freeestyle Artists like they're dogs with flies....they don't want them around when the "SO CALLED SUPERSTARS" are on the same roster!

Your right....but unfortunally until these Freestyle Artists get a little bit more of a backbone and call the station themselves and say "We will not do another event until you treat us fairly".
I know for a fact there's a small hand-full of artists willing to do just that but an army is needed to win the war...two or three freestyle artists won't even make a dent. They have to stop playing hating eachother, get it togehter becuase there's power in unity.

Wizard u looking for excuses now. If Amber or Deborah Cox performed at Hunka, they would wait in the kitchen also. Thats the setup at hunka. Blame Vito Bruno a hell alot more than ktu. He plans the ENTIRE show. He runs the ENTIRE show. And believe me, he had freestyle artists calling him day and night begging to perform at the show for FREE. I guarantee Vito or ktu didn' have to beg any of the artists to do the show. TKA, Cynthia, Safire and the rest all performed for free. So is Mariah Carey, Enrique, and whoever else is performing at Miracle. They don't get paid to do a radio show.

Complaining on a website gets you no where. Call ktu and discuss your problems. Thats what i do, which is how i learned what decent knowledge i have of radio. What good are you doing by blaming everybody and everything except freetyle itself for is decline. Like i said,i only been here at clubfreestyle.com for 3weeks, and its very tiring. Do something about it !

You guys kill ktu for not playing new freestyle. Sorry but all the new shit is WACK. I'm a BIG fan of johnny budz, but most of the new shit he plays on sundays SUCKS. I don't even listen on sundays that much anymore. I don't blame him, he's got nothing to work with. He's playing whats new, unfortunately it all sucks.

How many of them can go in front of 20,000 and put on a REAL show. SING LIVE in front of an orchestra, not lip synching over the cd like MOST of them do. Besides George Lamond and TKA, I've never seen a freestyle artist perform without the help of the vocals in the backround.

How much more would freestyle be embarrassed having somebody like Tonasia (who i recently saw perform live and he SUCKED) lip synch in front of 20,000 then have Alicia Keys follow him up and sing her heart out ? Or even Cynthia (who i LOVE), sing off key live like she did at Hunka ? Or how bout Fascination turning off her mic 4 times mistankly, like she did at Hunka ? I was in the front row the whole night, i saw it all.

Fret no more. a little birdie told me today that there may be a freestyle act performing at Miracle. And its one of the REAL artists

Dont get me wrong. i'm a HUGE freestyle fan. i just know the deal. its past its prime. maybe some of you need to accept that. record labels treat it like a joke. can u blame them? theres been a handful of good songs come out in the past 5 years. I will ALWAYS support it, but i'm not blind.

Wizard i will agree with u on 1 thing. Johnny O, lets not get GOD involved with this. He's got more important things to worry about during these times !
 
let me just say, i have listened to ktu from day one...you know the time before they even had a dj on the air...remember those first few weeks, i dont know if the station even had a name, all i know is that i was turning the dial and caught freestyle...and from there thats all that was said...in the begining they were playing all types of freestyle...i remember a big variety...but now its shot to hell...THEY USED THE FANS AND THE ARTIST FOR THE HUNKA BUNKA SHOW...first all you heard on ktu was freesyle...freestyle mixes and freestyle count downs...and they extended thier mix shows to an hour and added more shows at night...NOW IT IS SLOWLY DISSAPEARING...if u guys want to do something i am down for it...HOW DARE THEY DO THIS TO FREESTYLE...thats why they are low on ratingings...not respected...last time i checked werent they like number 5 or 6...they arent the beat of new york...they offer nothing diffrent then a combined playlist of z100 and hot 97

ktu use to be special for me cause i could hear all types of music and be like oh crap thats my song and i havent heard it in years...they havent done that in a long time...they lost it...they have sold out...all you hear is the same old crap...its a disgrace

they should be put in jail for calling themselves the beat of new york...that is false advertising
 
All those Clear channel stations are confusing. That's the way Hot995 is They say they are the Real Hit Music Staion. Most of the time they try to be a mix of the old Z104(which I have gave up on what they are playing now)and WPGC and 93.9. In Richmond,Q94 sounds like top 40 dropped with lots of B103{their version of Mix107.3(DC) and WPLJ}. Let face it Radio suck!! Thats why radio station are losing money these days.
