Maybe it's just me but I think KTU has been playing a lot more dance music lately. They have started playing songs that were very popular when the station came back on the air a few years ago like "Your Loving Arms" by Billie Ray Martin, "I Wanna Be With You" and "Close To You" by Fun Factory, and "Sweet Dreams" by La Bouche. They also have been promoting freestyle in their ad that says "KTU in '02 is..." They include freestyle songs along with new music. So maybe things are starting to change for the better at KTU!

Hmmm I dont know to me they always been the same when it comes to dance music. 🙂 They always crank it lovely when it comes to that Genre type of music since I been a listener since they first got on the airwaves.

Their still playing all the same pop/hip-hop stuff, but they have been playing some more dance stuff. Especially the hours I'm up like between 11pm-3/4am. The last few weeks they've been playing some old Madonna, Expose etc etc. Plus a few times the last 2 or 3 weeks I;ve heard them play Naughty By Nature, and stuff like that. They've been surprising me with some stuff I heard. I don't know what their day/afternoon rotation has been like cause I'm usually in class or work.

Last night around 8, they played Too Blind To See It by Kim Syms...havent heard that one in a long time!

To the Latinos in particular prende la velas, get out your beads, get the live chicken and do a despojo on the dial 103.5 if that don't work theres some old lady in the bronx we can pay that will make sure somebodys pee pee will fall off if they dont play dance or FREESTYLE Hard!
 
Well, Diane's mother stopped callin Goumba because Judy isnt on the show anymore. She used to call all the time and sing those jingles about the yankees and KTU.
 
IT JUST SEEMS LIKE WHEN KTU IS DOING BAD THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO TO TRICK US LISTENERS INTO GOING BACK TO THEM. BUT THEY ARE PLAYING TOO MUCH HIP HOP SHIT.
 
I do happen to catch alot more freestyle then they normally play. Im glad for that because we dont have to wait for certian times of the day or days of the week for our music anymore!
 
The reason for the changes in KTU's sound (for the better) is that Geronimo was ousted as Music Director and Vic Latino is in now...This is a good thing, because if Geronimo was still music director I guarantee you that the new Celine Dion song would be getting upwards of 70 plays a week...Kind of an oxymoron isn't it: "The beat of New York..KTU...New music from Celine Dion!!!"....However, Vic Latino is obviously bringing the station back to what it used to be like 5 years ago, a DANCE STATION! For once, the songs that are "new music" are actually songs that are popular in clubs, not songs that were popular in clubs a year and a half ago...Trust me, I'm KTU's biggest critic, always have been, and I'm definately impressed with the way things are sounding....Freestyle is definately alive once again on the radio!
 
I have definitely heard a change in KTU in the last few weeks. They are playing more classics, freestyle, dance music from a few yrs ago, and new dance music. I dont think they can completely stop playing some hip-hop because then they would probably lose some of their new, young audience. So they have to appeal to a wider variety of listeners. But I definitely see an improvement in the amount of dance music that's being played.

Isn't it about time that KTU, along with every other Dance station out there, starts playing some NEW Freestyle/ Dance music and give the up and coming artists some recognition when we should be playing an equal amount, if not less, of the "classics" that we constantly here? Maybe this will give all the old-skool artists a reason to record some new material instead of what they have been performing at every show in the last 15 years.
