A co-worker pointed out an article in todays paper. KTU will be hosting a hip/hop Friday night with 3rd Base's MC Search as host starting February 23rd.

You have got to be kidding. We can't get the station to play enough dance and freestyle and now this. This is totally outrageous. This is a dance station...or what used to be. Now it will not be long before the station is in the crapper. This is the same mistake that Hot 97 made back in the day. Its bad enough they play pop all day.

No offense to the music and its artists. I do listen myself....but it is insulting to the people who trusted KTU to be and remain a dance/freestyle station. Wishfull thinking.
 
WELL BASICALLY IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH THE RATINGS!! I'M DOUBTING VERY MUCH THAT KTU WILL TURN INTO HIP HOP. I THINK IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD THAT KTU IS HAVING A HIP HOP NIGHT. KTU WILL BE DISTRIBUATING ALL TYPES OF MUSIC FOR ALL TYPES OF PEOPLE AND WHAT'S SO WRONG WITH THAT??? KTU SO FAR IS THE ONLY STATION THAT WILL HAVE ALL THESE TYPES OF FLAVORS UNDER ONE STATION!! HIP HOP, TECHNO, DANCE, AGRESSIVE HOUSE, FREESTYLE, R&B, POP, AND DISCO!! WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR!! ALL THIS UNDER ONE STATION AND ALL OF THEM ARE BASICALLY INDIVIDUALLY SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT NIGHTS FOR EVERYONE'S CONVENIENCE!! HEY YOU NEVER KNOW!! MAYBE HIP HOP LISTNERS WILL TURN INTO FREESTYLE LISTNERS!!LOL BUT IF YOU ARE WORRIED THAT KTU WILL TURN INTO HIP HOP, I DON'T THINK THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN!!

There's 168 hours in a week. KTU is dedicating 2 of those hours to OLD SCHOOL hiphop. That sure doesn't mean they are going hiphop !!!! They ARE NOT GOING hiphop. This show is OLD SCHOOL HipHop.

Freestyle lover described it very well. Variety is the key of life. Chances are, some freestyle liseners might even enjoy this show. He'll be playing music from the same era freestyle was big.

Plus MC Search is da man. Even though i kick his ass in basketball every week !!! hope you're reading this kid ! LOL.

Ktu isn't no where near to going in the crapper. Also, how do you figure Hot 97 made a 'mistake" back in the day? To this day, they are still one of the top rated stations. Doesn't sound much like a mistake to me.

As for ktu changing...like i said its only a matter of time. Hot 97 did that....couple of songs here and there...maybe a friday or saturday night...and..then...change of format. Its a very popular type of music...more so that a change is possible....it will bring a lot more listeners and thats all they care about anyway....but certainly not for freestyle and dance music. Only time will tell.
 
Nothing against Search...i love 3rd base. But I am sorry...a station should stay true to their format. No station can be everything to everyone....so they shouldnt bother trying....it only leads to failure. Thats the point of being different. As for Hot 97 making a mistake...yes. They were the only station playing freestyle. Yes..they still are big. But only to the hip/hop R&B crowd. Not to the dance/freestyle freaks. I dont recall hearing any dance on that station.

I thought I would just comment and say I'm not even going to comment. I will mention, however, that I did hear "Waiting for Tonight" by Jennifer Lopez at exactly 2:30 in the afternoon for the past 4 days or so....Oh wait, they play a real variety right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.....

Here at KTU we are very excited about the new Old School Hip-Hop Show that will be airing on friday nights 9 p.m. to 11p.m.
It drives me nuts to hear people say that KTU is goin to go Hip-Hop...We are a radio station that plays Current pop, Dance, house, freestyle, classics, r&b, hip hop...We have an opportunity to air an OLD SCHOOL HIP-HOP SHOW featuring someone who lived it in MC Serch (if u were under a rock during that time, he was in 3rd Base). This show will feature all the best old school hiphop.Public Ememy, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Rob Base, etc...You tell me that u couldn't name a song by each of those artists? I grew up listening to freestyle, Hot103...I used to cruise Bloomfield Ave, in NJ blasting Judy Torres, Coro, and all the best freestyle. I also remember playing Blacksheep "Strobelight"..LL Cool J "I Need Love", Big Daddy Kane "Raw" and many more great songs...It was a great time for music, why not give our audience a little of the it? Before u knock it, listen to the show, then tell me what u think. It is not taking any freestyle off the air, so don't worry...

Ok guys...This is going to sound rare coming out of my mouth...but I THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA WHAT KTU IS DOING!!! ok there I said it...I'll bet you NEVER expected that to come out of me. Personally I think the old school Hiphop sound is an important part of the history of NYC radio and commonly overlooked. I think its a good idea...thats it....JEFF Z of KTU! It's great to FINALLY see someone who is "high up" at KTU representing on the board....I would love to chat with you one day about KTU I have some questions about playlists and stuff like that, if your reading this, email me at djcaps213@aol.com!

why should KTU give old school rap a try? i, like may other guidos out there listened to rap and adore it greatly. BUT HOT 97 currently dedicates a few shows to rap "OLD SCHOOL @ NOON"w/ DJ red ALERT. so, why does KTU have to be a FOLLOWER? what next......the "COUNTRY SHOW?"

i have to agree with anthony freestylelover. if this is the type of old school im thinkin of, then it will have some rob base, ll cool j, slick rick (mona lisa), and some other kool songs that i used to pump back in the day. KTU will not abandon freestyle. They know that would be a dumb move. Besides, Judy Torres would probably quit, and they dont want to lose her. I dont think 2 hrs will infringe on freestyle. Im gonna give it a fair shake to see if its the true old school that im thinkin of. Hey, maybe they'll even throw in a little Twin Hype - Do It to the Crowd!!!!! YEAH BABY!!! later steve b
 
I hope that KTU doesn't become like z103.5 in Toronto, Canada. They were an all dance station when they started, now all I hear is hip hop and pop (they can't get enough of outkast, britney spears, BSB, N'Sync, THE MOFFATS!!!!! For God's sake!!!)... the only dance they play now is friday and saturday nights when it's live to air from the clubs and also sunday for the freestyle frenzy (a full hour!! yay).

They gotta correct their definition of an all dance radio station.

Again, I hope KTU doesn't end up like that... 🙁
 
I just had to comment on the post Jeff Z wrote. He states that KTU plays current , dance, house, pop, freestyle etc.. What current freestyle does KTU play? The only time you here current freestyle is when Johnny Budz sneaks it in on the weekends. I cant even get a meeting at KTU to approach them with a new Freestyle song. But I bet If i had a major behind me like, BMG (Robbins Ent) or something similar I would get a call back. When was the last time KTu Broke a New Freestyle song??? Please... Come on the play current freestyle?? I think not! But I gotta say i like the idea of the old school hip hop show on fridays. Thats what Got me into the business to begin with. Can't wait for that.

your life dream was to meet CHUCK D, delicious D ? you dont get out often, do you kid? i seen him alot @ a flea market in MASSAPEQUA (not anymore, it closed down) and i went up to him and asked him about the BEASTIE BOYS and boy did he get pissed!!! as for old school rap on KTU, all your people that are having a hard on over it.....just turn your dial to DJ RED ALERTS old school mix (not on the days JOHNNY BUDZ is on!!) KTU IS A FOLLOWER, NOT A LEADER!!! why are you guys so happy they are playing rap? i called the station yesterday and when they picked up the phone and said "HELLO...KTU" i replied "OH...I THOUGHT I WAS CALLING HOT 97!!!" hope that pissed them off. so.....why is KTU trying to be like HOT 97 now????????

Ya, I hangged out with them for about three hours, and then met up with them at the airport.

You need to understand, chuck deals with rap drama 24/7. He doezn't really trust anyone that walks up to him just to ask them things.

He was the same with me, until he found out that I understood what P.E. was about.

Then he became one of the nices, peeps out there. I always thought that I understood Chuck, But there is much more to him than meets the eye.
