Thats Funny, I was in Fresno this weekend listning to 97.9 (same type of music as 98.1) and they were playing Shanon and Deby Deb.

I know.. I once heard Shannon and Cover Girls and Expose on 98.1 too....

It's very typical for an old school/ jammin' r&b & more station to play classic freestyle songs like that. Even Connie and Collage may be acceptable, but this also depends a lot if it's an urban station or not. A lot of the time a hispanic owned r&b station or old school or jammin' r&b & more station would play more freestyle than urban stations or sometimes it depends on location. Freakazoid and planet rock may be heard in mix shows on most r&b stations (if they do a mix show) but going as far as connie, lil suzy and trinere is a little unique. Shannon, Debbie Deb, and sometimes Stevie B. are very typical, but if you here Angelina, Planet & Soul, Sharyn Maceren, or Acid Factor and stuff like that, then there might be a problem because that station would be outrageously abnormal. Hear in Arizona on 99.3/101.3 Arizona's jammin' r&b (but called old school) station plays Stevie B., Collage, Debbie Deb, Connie, Ollie & Jerry, and I'm pretty sure they also play Jane Child: "i don't want to fall in love, love feels just like a knife, you make a knife feel good, I'll fight you to the end..."
