How can a kid flunk Kindergarten??? My brother got left back in KG...and I know about another kid that this happened to...Has Kindergarten changed since I went to school??? All I remember doing was fingerpainting, eat cookies and drink juice and take naps...I don't know...I thinks it's weird...I don't have kids so I don't know what is being taught to these kids nowadays that kids are being left back as such a young age...what do you guys think???

maybe they didnt take their naps... :confused ? damn... how can u fail kindergarten... ?

that's messed up. the kindergarten I went too..all we did was play but when i started Catholic School in 1st grade & i would pass the kindergarten classes..they weren't playing..they were working..so maybe his class was like that.

They really expect alot from the kids today. When my daughter went in, her teacher expected all the kids to know the alphabet, write their name and know how to react in a classroom. She was constantly yelled at for acting like a 5-year old. I at least had her knowing the alphabet and how to spell her name before school started. I had inquired about a friend's son because they don't speak English. My friend was from a real strict evangelical sect which prohobits birth control so she had 4 kids under 6. I explained to the teacher that the kids mother(my Friend) didn't have time to be teaching the alphabet and all that and the teacher actually said "Then maybe she shouldn't be having so many kids"...what nerve, huh...That's supposed to be what she's paid for. My daughter in kindergarten was doing dictation by the end of the year, deciphering sound pictures(nowadays they teach the kids to read with phonetics), addition and subtraction as well as participated in the class science project. At one point she tried to tell me my daughter was slow(as in mentally) cause she didn't quite grasp some words. I asked her if her being bi-lingual had something to do with it and she said she wasn't sure cause she never had a bi-lingual student that spoke such good English before. They really take it for granted that these kids had a chance to go to preschool or learned such things there.

WOW!!!

Damn! That's sad! 🙁

Maybe you or your mom should speak to the teacher and find out what's goin on and how long it's been happening cuz I'm sorry...if the child was having problems grasping stuff...why didn't she speak up during the school year? Why wait til the end and fail the child? That's just foul! :mad

Well my brother lives with my father down in FL...and I don't know why they let some thing like this happen...but who am I to say anything to him on how he is raising his kid...of course he doesn't balme himself he blames his wife...I think it's both of their faults...but that is just me...

that's the b.s. I'm going through w/my lil one too, I mean I know she's academically challlenged due to her seizures yet teachers let stuff slip by and that's not cool. These days they expect alot more than when we started. Yet by brother was expelled from kindergarden so sometimes it could be something that's overlooked

hmm.. its down here in florida....:confused... we have a Bush as governor in Florida... our school system is all fuked up... its not the childs fault... its the goverments... well.. thats who i blame... 😀

I started school at 2 yrs old. They had us doing homework at 2!!!!!!! I hated it. I remember the teachers would hit the kids and one time my cousin forgot to pick me up..when my mom got there 3 hrs later..all the teachers had left and i was all alone with the janitor. My mom was pissed. She let mr finish that yr..then i stayed home a yr cuz i wouldve been the only 3 yr old in kindergarten LOL

That's true..My freshman yr of high school here in florida..how they was teaching fractions, decimals, order of operations...stuff I learned in 2nd grade and the students didnt know how to do it. I felt bad for them. Oh well I got a A+ in that class LOL

Well kids are expected to know a certain amount of things before the year ends, abc's, name, numbers etc, if she or he hasn't learn this then it would be worst for the to be promoted. He/she will always be behind the rest of the kids and that is just going to screwed the kid up. I know because it happened to my son and we are still struggling.

They're also big on "active listening." In the first few weeks she also had a little "accident." The school had a few fire drills and she was scared the school would catch on fire and she'd be in the bathroom and they'd leave her there. So she was scared to death to use the bathroom. So she had her little accident and the teacher yelled at her and sent me a nasty note home.

Otherwise, these days they expect too much from our kids these days.

failing kindergarten.. that must suck, but its only possible in this 21st century society of ridiculously high standards. same reason why there are university graduates nowadays who still cant find good jobs- cuz expectations now are rising and certain things aren't good enough today. getting back to kindergarten - i have a 4-year-old cousin who is being held back a year because he doesnt really know how to talk 🙂 but i guess if i was a teacher, i'd also hold back a 4-year-old who hadnt yet learned how to talk. kinda sad i think, he's a big kid.
