MIAMI,nuff said!
been so long.

meryx-mas to all jack, gene R., rene g, rhoq,la duka (amareto), mickey g,marlon, and everyone i like at clubfreestyle and latinfreestyle.com.
Happy new year also.

Its been a hard year for many, but next year, good things are coming:

1. a new a.m. dance station coming to the miami community. Freestyle is going to be a big part of that, especially the new artist and material from peeps like ASHLEY, stephanie pinero, latin nation, grey, and Elissa in canada, zoe,
Orlandos jennifer glass, precious, and miamis very own fiori,d'luna, plumet and others. It will also be available on line.

2. a new bunch of artist are releasing material geared for the freestyle market in 2k4 :fiori, originaly known as samantha (NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE TAZMANIA SAMANTHA), she will re do her 90's anthem "CRAVING YOUR LOVE" with hubby danny canary (djfluid) after success with " if i believe.
D'luna (aka china doll) is also releasing 3 tracks produced by Lewis martinee, the creator of expose and godfather of the miami sound.this while performing with her rock band and recording for the english version of yani camarena's "noche de estrellas" for 2k4 release.
also3 new artrist will be introduced to the freestyle/elecrrodance scene.
much more coming soon.

3. Destune records will reopen its doors in 2k4. Althougfh targeting the NU-freestyle/electrodance market..destune will release its 2 cd compilation of a medley of Destune records, Ten Lion records, detour records, material from the lewis martinee camp, and material from companies that have been in the Miami freestyle circle during the 80's and 90's most have goten suport from comercial or pirate radio, but were unavailable or hard to find on cd.
hand selected classic cuts by Miami's JONPITO with pics and liner notes.
open to debate is to make it a mix cd set or have the cuts by themselves.
Destune record since the late 80's has been a fulcrum company in keepin together miami's freestyle industry together. in the 1990's, it and ten lion (ten destune) where the last of a dying breed . late 90's both labels closed thier doors. 2k4- JONPITO brings it back.

other tracks include : los sucios "love is blind" Sound of destiny "its all about you" , Voice n fashion "Give me your love", teaz II pleaz "i want you" teaz II pleas 3 "games of love", techno lust "woman" X-posed "point of no return" ,rene "this time", alegra "do you want my love" D'luna (china dolls) "ill know how to love you/im blowing up(unreleased Freestyle mix), power patrol "be with you tonight" and many more.

additional promo copies and info on all this miami material and future material will be given to those sites, radio ,magz etc that have suported and currently support Miami's curent Freestyle community.

4.miamis community salutes "boogie man bary" and his miamimix.com,welcoming him and a line of new young promoters (21-) into the scene for several freestyle nites in 2k4.

5. Tai shan ball 3, crown jewel of industry freestyle parties during WMC is now in the works, this year showing no mercy!

this and much more news coming at you in 2k4. Miami's heat invades the world.

Good to see you again JonPito Happy Holidays to you as well, funny you mention the above in your post. Lewis Martinee' did mention his works with China Doll on my recent visit with him as well as his plans to re-release his classic hits with a new flavor. He was nice enough to give me some samples.Truly the godfather of Miami!! In closing I would like to say that it was good to see an sincere attempt to keep Freestyle alive down there with their one hour lunch mix everyday on the spanish station 98.3 :fkinaman

thanks free jack and club fossil.

yes, alot, but alot of things are coming. im glad to hear that you got a sneak peak.

lewis not only was one if not the first miami "latinhiphop/freestyle" producer djs on the scene in 1982-84 when he formed and created Sequel "its not to late",techno lust "woman"and x-posed "come go with me" "point of no return"and all the expose hits (before the devils nest opened, before TKA, before cover girls) (he was the blue print for the latin trios singing over synchronized electro hiphop/pop beats).
LEWIS is the ONLY and i say ONLY one of the old school freestyle pioneers that has actually opened doors and oportunities for the NU-freestyle electrodance artist.from him it spread to jellybean and so on. now its about to spread 5 times larger.

(everyone else just concentrated on reforming old groups or sticking and keeping oportunities within thier old school circles of artist.its understandable that it is easier living inthe past or with a past sound, however thats what freestyle was at the beginning..taking chances and having quality and variety. In miami we are open to that and always have been. in new york its been the oposite. the old school new york is never going to let the new generation of new york surpas them.).

The world forgot about miami, but now they are all going to find out and feel what miami is, as we now take back and claim back what was ours.

Lewis martinee is definetley part of this, but most importanttly along side all the new aprentices of the miami pioneers.

lots of others talk bad about lewis or downplay cuz the expose drama. we never had any problems working with him.on top of that those who speak bad, they also call him and keep ties. why is that?
add more, he has gotten many projects on radio play, unlike many other freestyle artist trying to make comebacks and floped, and his walls are still full of platinum with his name on it.

people should be thankful that they did get the oportunities that were given to them back in the day, to be part of a group or to be in a back up band.
I know we and all the new miami generation are thankful fow what he is doing for us NOW.

i know alot of peeps are also wondering what he thinks about expose back in california with jeanet and the others...he suports that and wishes them well.
But most importantly, he like myself are concentrating on todays youth, the freestyle and dance music industry people of tomorow.
a new sound and taking it into the future.

another one is FRANK LORDS.....he has done alot and is big right now in the current dance community. alot of other relate to him to that classic miami group...but those have been so out of touch that they dont recognize his current status NOW.-but thats another story.

thanks.......happy hollidays.

also..refering to what i said about old school new york artist. that doesnt go for everyone.
peeps like sam savon, nyasia,la duka amareto, mickey garcia, lydia lee love, angel clivilles and so many others have also kept it current and helped alot of the new generations in new york.
However, i dont have to be specific to say..we all know who they are. just people are scared to talk about it.
just one day hope the new generation of new york, tells them like miami did with thier old generations "step aside..ITS OUR TURN!!!!!".

peace
JP

Jonpito, Great News And If You See Vic Ten Or Marlene Give Them A Hug And Hello From Me....
Glad To Hear Things Are Cooking For 2004...i Am Also Stirring The Pot For 2004 With Alot Of Releases Scheduled And New Artists Coming Out!
Merry Xmas And Happy New Year To You And Yours! Before I Forget....lol
When You Get A Chance, Pm Me And We Can Talk More On 2004 And Bringing It Back....

In fairness to everyone I am glad that you did not neglect to mention that Mickey Garcia is keeping doors open as well here in NYC. As for Lewis Martinee's history I know as a fact that you are right about his being there before many and that he is truly a pioneer of the sound. Some have suggested others such as Robie & Baker.Which by the way was an ongoing thread a while back.

Of all the people I have met, Lewis Martinee' was one of the top honors for me.
BUT!!! as a New Yorker I think many would agree that regardless of where some artists and producers were from at a particular time it was the BIG APPLe that made it what it was. Indy labels were being picked up by major labels based in NYC as well. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place here having just met Lewis and being a big fan of his. The world forgot Miami??..not me!! I have and will always love the Miami sound , is it any wonder why I took time out of my vacation to meet the legend while I was down there?? <--------- :lol

Hey Jon...first Off, Merry Christmas And I Hope You Have A Great Holiday..

Now, As Far As Lewis Martinee Goes, For Seven Years, I Called Lewis My Boss When He Entrusted Me With Expose'. And, For 20 Years , I Have Called Him My Friend. To Me, Expose' Is Lewis Martinee', No Matter Who "owns " The Name. Without Him, There Never Would Have Been! Unfortunately, 2 Out Of The 3 Replacement Expose'ettes Felt It Was All Them. They Forgot Where The Silver Spoon Came From That Took Them Out Of Performing W/ Cover Bands At Holiday Inns..yes, They Helped The Group Succeed, But Not By Themselves..they Also Supported The Decision That Took Creative Control Away Fro Lewis For The 3rd Album, Which Was Their Worst Selling...(coincidence)..anyway, Much Love And Always Support To Lewis...not Only A Pioneer, But Still An Innovator!!~

mad recognition free jack.
no doubt...aurther baker (who is back onthe nu-freestyle electrodance scene again), robie, rocca, barbossa, latin rascals, jellybean were inthe circle of the firts dj/producers of freestyle music. all from new york and a couple imported from london (which gave birth to that american meets england feel.). But also people like Pretty tony butler, amos larkins, ish and others from miami had alot to do with it also in the early 80's. lewis martinee the biggest fish of all. back in the early 80's dance music had no face..it was all what the crowds looked and dressed like. with X-posed and sequel and technolust..lewis and the crew gave birth to that image...that latindance/pop image..later other groups in 84 would ride on that success both in miami and new york. lewis was equivalant if not biger than emilio estefan at that time.
alot of new york people since the erly 80's had to break in miamis underground and then go back and break in miami radio first. this kept up until new york got thier dance radio station.if they didnt break in the black market first as a dance/r&b record.

one thing: MIAMI AND NEW YORK WERE ONE!!!
AND WE ARE GOING BACK TO THAT!!! THIS WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE IT WILL BE SEEN.

lol someone told me that the only problem with lewis, was that he wasnt from new york. he wasnt puerto recan, he was cuban. but thats the awsome thing..miami was very influenced by the over looked cuban american community and youth. and that was a huge influence on the miami freestyle sound.

Lewis martinee ,like jellybean, is to freestyle what larry levan was to the history of house music.Lewis spun at the lime light and several venues in new york inthe late 70's and was a huge disco and later freestyle dj.
Right now at this moment everyone is sweating the bobby orlando sound for thier electroclash or electroclashed infuenced dance records.
thenext step ,alot of peopel are going to be biting and sweating the miami sound...the mARTINEE sound.

and peeps need to remeber that he not only produced expose, sequel, techno lust, paris by air, wild maries, voice and fashion, shana, ..etce..but also produced for the pet shop boys, debbie gibson, vanessa wiliams, and so many POP groups whish he influenced with his sound.
personaly, i always knew who lewis was, but it wasnt till mickey garcia told me over the phone to sit down and to realize the knowledge and experience i will be getting from working in that inviorment. This was many years ago.

i know you know all this, but im just typing for those who dont.

im glad you met lewis and as you can see, he has no big ego or is not a show off. in fact you have to pull teeth to get him to talk in detail about the past.

he wants to start off fresh, but so far that he is in a way taking it to EXTREMES (lol)...now he wants to be known as DJ magnum, since although he knows thatthe freestyle tyhing is about to blow up..he thinks his name MARTINEE is still looked down on....

FEEL FREE TO CALL HIM (EVERYONE) at 305-255-1226 and e-mail him at lmartinee@aol.com and tell him NOT TO CHANGE HIS NAME. Tell HIM HOW HIS NAME IS A BIG PART OF DANCE MUSIC HISTORY and he should keep it.
let him know the "FREESTYLE COMMUNITY" still remebers him and that you want MORE!!!!!!

tell him how you want more d'luna and more new material with other artist.and to keep the martinee name going.

freejack, another thing i want to add to that part i mentioned about cubans in miami and the influence on freestyle...One of new yorks first latin hiphop artist "nayobe" on fever was cuban. That was crucial for her to break in miami.till this day, regardless miami still loves her.

today a new generation of cuban american artist in freestyle are in development as well with the afrocuban sound mixed into the electro freestyle and rock guitars.
(along side miamis large Brazilian population).

at this very moment, actually this weekend, jorge ojeda (originally from the early 80's radio rythm 98) and i will be going to the studio to record vocals with the electroclash group Avenue d. Evenue D has been around for a while and thier record "slut" is huge and has gotten them writen about on BPM,urb, billborad and many other magz. One member is cuban the other Panamanian (like myself and daphne rubin vega of pijama party).
They just finished a record that has production and involvement from the freestyle community member known as MARLON called "donkey punch" (brought to atention to me by XTC (aka comany b who also post here and at freestylemusic.com), now they will work with us on some FREESTYLISH MIAMI BASS MATERIAL.
very hielea bass. Teaz II pleaz meets sleaze.

but thats all i can say for now.

scot man, omg.
he took it there.

YES YES!!!!

When a group comes out, its not only about the members...but the "TEAM" behind them. and what a perfect example..when expose's 3rd album...lewis was voted out by the members and the label not to produce as much on that album. the only song he did was "what you dont know", "tell me why"and one other..which made noise.

The rest floped and is when expose SOLD OUT FREESTYLE (dance msuic in general)and went to that (no direspect to no one) white girl Wilson Philips look. like a cover of a summers eve box, standing by the ocean with a flower dress.
and some now trying to come back "I GOT GAY FRIENDS..I GOT GAY FRIENDS".although the vip doors of that community remain shut.

They all owe it to him and should be greatful. but see, its the new generation who will make it hard for them, till they proov themselves. till then some can go back to holliday inn shows or reunion shows and perform their "CLASSICS", all originaly done by someone else.

BUt another story beggins...around that time period that expose was on thier 3rd album and lewis was voted out. he signed another girl named DIANE. diane signed to PANTERA (before it crumbled) and had a record called "never going to say goodbye" also produced by jellybean. she also was very close freinds and dated erik, the late lead of erotic exotic. she had other freinds like EDMOND "tought me"and FRANK lords who helped her get started.around that time both jellybean and lewis were getting out of freestyle.
YEARS later she would come back to the same building, now called eqs and she would be known as D'luna the china doll. work with lewis and sign to jellybeans label in attemnpt to back to freestyle. she paved the way for other jellybean freestylebreak releases from Rebnerta childs and India. She won the heart of the center of the gay community and is known in circles and adored by people like T.P. Lords, daisy deadpetals and others. no other artist can hang like that even if they treid.
she became miamis and floridas "new queen of nu-freestyle electrodance".

now after one year in silence..teams up with lewis and allhell is about to break loose.

i like myself went to pantera as a young guy (14) and it was on its way down. years later i would find myself back there again also. CHINA DOLLS, was never a group like it was planed by exefcutives. but it became One girl and the team behind her, me, lewis the jellybean team etc and everyone around us...........
if it wasnt for us as a team..it wouldnt of happend, we wouldnt of opened doors for indias comeback in dance msuic with "seduce me", there would be no taishan ball, there would be n o help for the people we met alongthe way. D''luna (china doll) recognizes and respects that...unlike previous groups that came out of the same building many years ago.

its finally good to hear it from someone else, especially from someone who was there.

thank you.

and like i said, when that old book cloed, a new book opened....and that is where we are now.

JonPito..easy with the info..my head is spinning :sround

Click on the picture file..is that cool or what.
I have no other than Scotman to thank though!! I too am extremely grateful for having met him and I hope I will again. Ego does not exist in the man. I think being Cuban led to such a sound being born.It is a musically oriented culture. I give credit where it is due. I mean it was also called Latin Hip-Hop so his sound defines it perfectly. To me personally it doesn't matter where he is from because I cannot agree with you more when you say "Miami and New York were one".I have always been aware of this and other people new to the genre should know it as well. I in no way want to downplay the work of any other producers though. It' s just that he was always obscure to me. Since I bought my first vinyl I was always interested to read the people who were responsible for the song on it..let's not forget they are in many ways more important since without them no product would leave the studio.. I made him aware of this online world and that many already know that his name is a big part of Freestyle history. His response was a casual..."Really?" ...talk about lack of ego. He was taken back that someone was there just to meet him. I also found out some valuable information....I finally know where Voice in Fashion was from...................Liverpool, Cuba :nutz
As for Nayobe...yes I know she was not only Cuban...but 16 when she recorded it!!..
Scotman...you have a phone call!!!!
Thanks for all the information you share with us here!! :cheers and Happy Holidays to all!!

Jon..thanks for takin my back on that...I tend to get very outspoken with that subject be cause I lived it with Lewis, Frank Diaz, and that fat B*ST*RD lying sneak who was their partner at the time. I LIVED IT!!! And, I agree with all that you said, and furthemore, if Lewis changes his name, then I'm changing mine to Lewis A Martinee', cause I would be proud to be him! Merry Christmas! And, I like that part about the one saying"I have Gay friends"...lmao

i forgot what i was gonna say....trying to remember what he wrote.....it's too much stuff.....dayum...the old days are gone......we are with a new era in music and the rap game is dead now so it's our turn ....nuf said

check this out

Hey Scotman!!! >>>> JonPito check this out if you haven't already seen it. You may find the "Sequal" section interesting.By the way I brought my Sequal cd with me to get signed and although he only produced "It's not too late" on it he has been scoping for it regardless.
