not sure that:
1. she was refeering to the genre Freestyle
2. she was ever a Freestyle artist

not sure that:

Eventhough she was never a Freestyle artist, I believe she was referring to how the person was singing and it reminded her of Freestyle singers from back in the day.

It's hard to make out because they did a bad job of editing but it's sounds closest to:

‎"...you remind me of like when I was younger in the Bronx...[edit]...like a Freestyle Singer!

She's definitely referring to freestyle music.

JLO knows of the existence of freestyle music and thus she had to have been referring to "freestyle" when she said that. I already knew it before I even saw the clip. I was more curious about what she meant by it exactly. The comment "you sound like a freestyle singer" in a singing competition could be taken a few different ways, lol.

She's married to Marc Anthony who started out singing and writing freestyle music.Of course, she knows what freestyle is lol.

I don't think she meant it in a mean way about dude singing like freestyler.

She probably only knows the good stuff. And none of the junk we endured for the last 15 yrs. Minus the last two years which have been great.

I'm curious to see the audition that got her to say that.

While I'll agree that after the mid 90s is when most of the crap in the genre began coming out, freestyle already kinda had that reputation by that point. That's why the myth "freestyle died cuz the artists can't sing" took on a life of its own during the new school years. I refer to it as a myth cuz I don't think that's why freestyle died to begin with.

she is from the bronx, and went to hight school in the Throggs Neck section of the bronx, she def knows what freestyle is and as mentioned here husband was heavily involed with freestyle, being friends with tka, lil louie vega, and the latin rascals just to name a few, my question is was she saying it as an insult or compliment.

i'm not the biggest j.lo fan, but i don't think she meant any harm by it. sounded like it reminded her good memories.

I just remembered that for her 40th birthday private party K7 was one of the performers. So I doubt it was meant in a nasty way.

Much of life is perspective and that's why I'm almost sure that she meant she had just heard something that reminded her of her younger days in the Bronx (she did say exactly that before mentioning "freestyle"). When people recall memories from when they were younger it's usually something positive.

Also, I had seen a JLO interview on MTV around a decade ago where she was saying that when the cameras are off she's that same lil' girl from the Bronx that she always was. While she was saying that, she turned up her stereo and it was freestyle music playing. I don't know if she was just trying to show off her street credibility, lol. Regardless, it shows that she likes that genre of music to some extent.

Did they wind up showing the particular audition that induced that comment from JLO? I don't like the show but I watched the audition rounds this season as much as I could just to see who the "freestyle singer" was. If they did show it, I missed it. Did anyone on here either catch it or wind up seeing all of the auditions to know for sure that they didn't wind up showing it?

I don't watch American Idol either.I'm guessing it was in the early rounds.

She meant it in a good way, Jennifer loves Freestyle she probably loves the old school, the best artists.Jlo and Leah Remini love Freestyle, im sure they play music in their cars, etc

she stated back in the day that she used to go to all of the clubs of NYC in the mid to late 1980s and highlighted the fact that TKA was one of her favorite dance groups as she put it....so I think anyone who was 18-21 in nyc back in 1988 knew of all these acts 🙂

I wish Jlo new CD had one 100% freestyle song on it,she does havd one that has little freestyle but I do love her deluxe.CD "Love" it has great dance songs and a couplr of good r&b songs,i been playing her CD a lot..they did a good job.

jlo has a surprise b-day party thrown by her husband and she had quite a bit of freestyle singers performing there like shannon, k7/tka and the covergirls. I have pictures from the party on here somewhere.

It's not like it's their fault. The fact of the matter is that "The Cover Girls" continued to exist and record music after Angel left the group. Dude from Fever Records has owned the group name the entire time. If promoters CHOOSE to pursue the group for bookings, then what choice does dude who owns the group name have but to give them whoever is the current "Cover Girls"?

Now anyone who knows was up knows the deal but then that would mean that it's the fault of the promoters for being ignorant towards the very music they're looking to politic with. Any promoter who knows was up and wants the orginal Cover Girls (the ones who sang their Freestyle songs) will directly go after booking Angel and not even deal with the "Cover Girls", right??
