TOKYO (March 8) - Police on Tuesday questioned three siblings after it was discovered they had been living with the decomposed corpse of their father for nearly a decade, an official said.

Police found the body of Kyujiro Kanaoka lying on a futon bed at the family's home in Itami city in Hyogo prefecture in western Japan, said a prefectural police spokesman, who declined to be identified.

Kanaoka's three elderly children, all in their 70s or older, told police they thought their father was still alive but that one of them recently had consulted a relative about the possibility that he might be dead, the spokesman said.

Police were investigating the cause of Kanaoka's death. Judging from the condition of his decomposed body, Kanaoka may have died as long as 10 years ago, the spokesman said.

Had he been alive, the man would be 107 years old. Hyogo prefecture had registered Kanaoka as its oldest living resident, public broadcaster NHK said.

doesn't EVERYONE'S father look like a rotting skull with maggots crawling over it? Of course it was just a big misunderstanding....and the fact that Daddy didn't eat anything in 10 years was a true testament to his fasting powers. Lara Flynn Boyle would be proud.

:confused

They didn't know he was dead... no f*cking way. (sorry, had to use the vulger language!)

rotflmao!!!!!!!!!!!! :lol :lol :lol

You know that had to be total BS since as someone said the man didn't eat for 10 years, use the bathroom, or even look like a decomposed skeleton by this time. Give me a break! I guess this wasn't the most intelligent group of adults with them thinking the cops would buy that story!

they forgot about their own dad? some kids! (or rather, 70-year-olds).. honestly why wouldn't that thought ever cross their mind over 10 years

Maybe it's some sort of mental condition. One of my older brother's friends from high school had gone crazy when his mother died and kept her corpse in the house for months. He just couldn't accept the fact that she was dead. After that he was never the same. He was one of those psycho genius types too. After that he wrote in many notebooks his theories about the unknown complete with a bibliography. There were about 20-30 notebooks with alot written about The Bermuda Triangle. He had given them to my brother for safe keeping. I eventually got them, but my father thinking they were garbage threw them out. I was planning on transcribing them. Eventualy about 15 years ago he died in a fire. It seems he used to live in one of the older neighborhoods in town and he believed his old house was still his house. It actually was a vacation house and he'd stay there all winter. He'd use candles, so one night they caught the rest the house on fire and he died in his sleep.
