I was just curious about something and wanted some feedback regarding "Amateur Night" at the Apollo.

Has anyone ever looked into the politics surrounding "Amateur Night" and what it takes to be chosen to "perform" in front of the audience and homes across America?

Reason being, I think it's an EXCELLENT outlet for an artist, or an aspiring artist, to showcase their talent for the world to see, and possibly bring Freestyle onto network television. By doing that, you'll be exposing yourself to a lot more opportunities.

But, I suggest that before anyone try's and tackles this one, you have your shit together. Because if you're going go up there and represent yourself and Freestyle by looking like some scrub off the street, lip-synching your way through the song, that just won't cut it.

Be creative, dress properly (don't look like someone from the audience), groom yourself, and have back-up dancers or background vocalist to help you out.

I was thinking about this on the way home from work yesterday and I had a vision in my head that this could possibly be the answer. Why? For all the right reasons.

It's time SOMEONE started thinking of other possibilities.

Rather than "cry" about it, let's start being realistic and use our heads.
 
Carlito it's a good idea but probably not likely to happen. The show basically caters to Comedy, Hip Hop, & R&B. You can try though. This might help you. The company that runs the show is Cinamour Entertainment and here is their contact information.

Thanks, Smooth. Unfortunatly, at this moment in time, I'm not vocally nor am I physically ready to do something like this. Had it been 3, 4 years ago when I was writing and working on my vocal skills, I might've done it. I was just putting it out there for other people to absorb.

Ceesil- You're right, bro. About a month ago I saw some 400lb Latina bust out with a House mix of Jill Scott's "The Way" and girl tore it up! She had the masses up on their feet, too!

And haven't countless Dance artist's performed on that stage in the past?
 
I know it's very difficult for a hispanic to get on amateur night. My daughters salsa instructor went to talk to them about my daughter possibly performing and they wanted to know what kind of act. He told them it was a group of them with her as the leader dancing salsa (with a kick a** performance)and they told him that they already had a hispanic act. He asked what did she mean by that. And she told said something about they only permit one act like that every 6 months. Something to that effect.

So if this is the case, I would say Freestyle is "hispanic" too. I know my husband performed in Apollo years ago, but not for amateur night. He performed when Freestyle was hot back in the days and he performed as "& MORE". But today, I don't know. I'm so skeptical now of the apollo that I just don't know..........:confused

In the late 80's, I've seen Expose`, Company B., and Sweet Sensation all perform on the show.
 
Corina,TKA,Cover Girls and Lisette Melendez performed on there also.
