Another shooting at HOT 97 !! does hip hop/ rap really need to add another negative chapter to it's already tarnish image???

It boogles my mind that this genre of music continues to grow in popularity and make tons and tons of money despite all the negativity all these years! i guess the success of this genre is a reflection of today's society. how sad.

I often wonder if the downfall of freestyle music had something to do with the fact that it didn't spread such negative messages in it's lyrics.

Perhaps if such classic's as Johnny O's "fantasy girl" or Safire's "Boy ive been told" were renamed "fantasy hoe" or "Ni*ger ive been told" then these artist would've still enjoy success today.

You know, I know some lyrics to our favorite freestyle music were not the best, and maybe even cheesy at times, But I'd rather keep it that way.

I agree with this thread and everyones comments. It bugs the shyt out of the me that hip hop can be so negative with all the "FcK this, n**ga that, I'll kill you, smoke this shit" and it has so much popularity and this society digs that shit. This topic burns me so much that went I go out clubbing or whatever is, most of the time, I have to settle to listen to this garbage instead of the music that I truly love, freestyle which never really had a negative image. Obviously I'm not a hiphop fan so whoever is here, dont take offense to it, its just my opinion.
 
Well, I listen to HIP HOP, but I too wonder why LATIN HIP HOP is not as popular. Is all these kid wanna bees that make it so popular.

By the way, didn't 50 cent just got shot at the other day? More drama from these llamas... already!
 
I'm a huge HIp-Hop fan born and raised on it as I was Freestyle. I guess the fact that it has grown as hugely as it has that it attracts so much drama with change always comes some sort of Drama artist will always have something to say about other artist it happens in Freestyle as well it aint publicized because of the fact that FS isnt mainstream and rather then writing songs about eachother they just talk about each other
 
i dont hear any fights over freestyle singers i never hear about a freestyle singer takin a gun to fight there battles these rap people need to grow up and be happy with the money they are makin not sing about beef with another rap star i have a feelin there will be another dead rap singer soon and they always say we miss 2 pac we miss big well if they did not open there big month about somebody els then there would not be a dead rap star again L L is not out shooting people Will smith is not out shootin em for em sayin bad things but nobody likes will cause he does not sing about drugs etc same for L L he sings about good stuff not drugs etc .
 
joe - keep in mind LL and Will Smith are old school rappers, older than the current bunch. Their music was clean back then.

It's the current bunch thats gone wacko
