I had someone ask me a really interesting question
its no secret that im a huge fan of most of toronto's freestyle/euro artists
most of these artists are new and trying to mark their spot
im a huge supporter
so i had some one ask me
if they or u werent canadian/from toronto would u still like them
i said yeah but mind u the only new freestyle i like tends to be either from europe or from the toronto artists...as for american artists its mainly the old skool music i like from them
so wuts everyones answer
would u still listen
i think i would but im a little confused about it now lol
 
well civic/dohc girl i'd say one of the major reasons i like toronto music so much because it's the local scene. each dance music center has its local artists which are supported heavily there, and a small handfull make it to other places as well. there is a lot of newer american freestyle which i've never heard before (i have no idea about texas freestyle) simply because it's not the local scene and i have no way to get to it. so if i weren't from canada/toronto, i probably wouldn't enjoy that music as much because it would be harder to get.
 
Yeah I agree with tran man. The reason why we support canadian artists so much is because their songs are accessible. You can't support the artist if you can't hear their music.

And btw, texas freestyle?? I hope I never hear a track like the one by Dallas EVER again 🙁 Worst freestyle track of all time. (just thought i'd add that 😀)
 
Well, in a way I agree with tran, however, I don't like the local freestyle just cause its easily accessible. Deep down I'm a Euro/Vocal Trance fan, and our freestyle has a touhc of Euro in it quite often, and that's why I prefer local artists' music.
 
well ive thought about it
ok sometimes i hear a song and then find out that the artist is canadian or from toronto and then im like hey this is pretty cool cuz its our own lol
and other times which usually happens
i hear about a local artist and will go out of my way to find and hear the song/cd
and i hear about it on the radio and yeah if i werent from here i probably wouldnt even know of it
also its pretty easy to get toronto freestyle songs lol freestyle heaven 4 and the invasion r just some examples...
so i guess yeah lol the answer is yes
and yeah i had the freestyle heaven 4 cd listened to it once whenn i first got and then just listened to the songs i liked and knew and then after zoeing started coming to the site and people started talking about her more i listend to all alone again and then heard her other songs and now shes currently my fave toronto freestyler so there u go lmao
 
Hell ya buddy, I love Vocal Trance, my Xbox is full of Vocal Trance (and Freestyle, Euro)... nothing beats playing a racing game while listening to some Vocal Trance (well other than the real thing 😀)
 
I can't believe what a different viewpoint of freestyle we have from the americans. they like freestyle because it reminds them of latino, whereas we like it because it sounds to us like euro. good discussion we have here 🙂
 
I'm an ol'school kind of guy, so I only listen to the old American freestyle (or collect/buy there stuff) because it is hard or impossible to find here in Canada. So when it comes to Canadian freestyle I would listen to the radio station to Tony Monaco's Freestyle Sunday's and therefore I don't really have to buy or collect hardly any.
Try asking some European Canadian person who's from the age of 25 to 35 and they would probably tell you the same thing. It is what ever type of music that was popular in their high school days that they would like. Most of you probably like today's freestyle because it sounds like euro when that type of music was popular in your high school days.
Also EESH, you mention Dallas as the worst freestyle ever to come out of Texas. Did you ever hear Jaime SUMMER HEAT? Probably not, it's one of the hardest/great songs from there with planet rock beats. What you're probably thinking is the artist called Dalas called NOW THAT YOUR GONE that came out of Toronto(Danforth) on Bass productions. Another great freestyle from Texas is also called (CD COMPILATION) Tight Flight Records that came out in 1995 or '96 which one of the artist's sounds like Stevie B. Don't trash other peoples music if you don't know what your talking about that might make you look like a fool just try to keep it to yourself so no bull$#!% would start. No hard feelings I hope.

Yes I've heard Jaime - Summer Heat. I think it's a really poor song. I remember listening to it once and deleting it. And yeah, I was thinking of the artist called Dallas - Now That You're Gone. I'm surprised he comes from toronto concidering how thick his accent is. Either that or he recorded the song as a joke which wouldn't surprise me. And as far as Stevie B goes, spring love was a good song. It had a nice lyrics, and stevie B did a pretty good job at singing it. But no one said the guy had an amazing voice so I'm not too sure if I'd support an artists just because they sound like Stevie B.

For the record, I wasn't trashing other ppl's music. I said I hated that Dallas song, which I thought came out of Texas. I'm sure i'm not the only one who's made that mistake given the guy's accent and his name. If you lack the definition of a 'personal opinion', then don't bother posting in forums, especially on a thread that asks for an opinion.

I love all types of Freestyle music from old school to new, and I like Canadian freestyle and I live in Austin, Texas. Now I believe we have some really talanted freestyle artists here. I remember reading that somebody said that they like Canadian freestyle artists because they can hear their music. Well not many people have heard of alot of Canadian freestyle artists exept artists like VLA and Elissia becuase they are not promoted here. It's the same way up there you dont hear Texas artists because they don't promote there.
 
To be honest, I can't say I've ever heard of any Texas freestyle. Can anyone fill me in on some of the biggest Texan freestylers?
 
I think here in Canada, we have the same mindset of Germany and Brazil where our freestyle sound has evolved to include breakbeat, electro, planet rock, energetic 2 step and old school as an integral part of the sound. This in turn has created a whole new fan base with branded artists and major label pressings. This makes us unique and significantly outlines the differences between our eveloved sound with our fellow german and brazilian fans while the US still sees the old school miami beat as the true sound of freestyle; whatever works 🙂

Up here, we have had more freestyle singles on top40 radio then anywhere; even this week; the Z top 20 features Ceres Feat. MC Gabriel & Rockell. Hope we all look out for the frenzy's best of 2002 shortly on tmr.com
 
yeah and dont forget all year we've had different freestyle trax on the list

I don't quite agree with you because I'm from california and yes there is a major latino fan base of house, freestyle, and old school but I'm asian and also a big time freestyle supporter. I'm into any type of freestyle: modern ones, euro, break beats, old school, mostly anything uptempo. I do dig trance but mostly vocal based ones. It's sad that radio stations in this area don't play as much freestyle as it used to. Hip hop is what really sells around here and the next category in line is house and trance. It sounds great that you guys have such a major support for freestyle in Canada. It's just too bad, I can't say the same for my area.
