Hey I was wondering lately if Freestyle is really alive or is it just taking its last breaths of life. Yeah i know there are still plenty of talented New School Artists out there like Nu Image, Dengel, Manny, Ashley but besides the die hard freestyle fanatics like us to people even know they exists. I mean its getting harder and harder to find people that listen to freestyle music and even those people dont even know that new songs exits. For instance was there any pure new freestyle song that made it to the top of the dance music charts this year. I mean pure freestyle songs not artists like the Roc Project cause they are a dance act. I would like some feedback on the subject.

😛 Hey..I only wish nothing but the best for the nu skool artist..they are really working hard..we need to concentrate on quality freestyle though..not quantity..some of the music put out now a days shouldn't even get played..and won't get played, not even on internet stations..hey my heart is old skool but I can honestly say I enjoy many of the freestylers that are members of this site..😛..LATINO MIX IS DEFINITELY OPENING DOORS FOR THE NU SKOOLERS..AT LEAST WITH BOOKINGS..I HOPE.😛

I dont think so. There's alot of artists coming out with new material this year. Try getting Bad Boy Joe's Freestyle vol.3 cd. It includes a bonus cd with a bunch of new school artist tracks. All kinds of freestyle. My personal favorite from there was Aby's "sometimes". I'm anxiously anticipating a possible new album from him that contains the full length version of that song.

The full song can be found on the Evolution of Dance Compilation produced by Edwin Ramos Jr. 🙂

Want the cd...email Edwin at bigcap1@earthlink.net or you can visit his site to purchase it.

It's hard to answer that question. There is really no new releases out. Freestyle seems to kinda die and then resurrect with the latest legend's release (cynthia/g.l in '99--Safire/TKA in '01). Guess we just have to wait for the "Next Coming"....

Then it's on again!

It only takes one breakout song from the freestyle genre to put focus on our music. Right now the other mentioned styles of music has evolved and continued to grow, and their developement was digesting the freestyle flavor into their sound. Freestyle had always been on the cutting edge of what dance music is, so it only needs one song with a new sound to arrow pointed back in this direction. The new schoolers are what will carry freestyle into the future. With support with our dollars and support by our own individual promotion, will assist them in getting to that level where they can make that difference.

frankie boy- "my precious love", "margarita", "shes leavin'", and his best in my opinion, "believe in love".....well anyways he's made it to the top with "don't wanna try" in his new name of (frankie j)check it out its pretty hot

Other than some breakbeat material that is out, Freestyle releases have been extremely slow. Other than mixed compilations, that is about it. It seems the market is flooded with mixed compilations and that sucks. I did manage to get the Freestyle Fusion comp that is non-mixed. There were some old songs thrown on it even though it is considered new. Sometimes I think Freestyle is close to its end and then every once in a while something or someone pops up. This is a touchy subject and it is just sad how Freestyle, has been ignored and anything big in the past...take Expose for example, have been forgotten. Look at VH1 for example.

THe Majority of Nu schoolers are very talented and dedicated but where is the music going I meant when i wrote that Freestyle music is just stuck in some black whole in the dance music universe. I mean there were plenty of great songs released allready this year like Manny's "Love Is not so easy" and Nu Image "I'll always Love You" and they went didnt break past the freestyle fanatics like us. One positive thing i have noticed in the past week is that Party 93.1 is playing more freestyle music though.

i don't think it is on it's last breath, i am in full support of all the new material, and if people like ashley, nu image, grey and a few others record the way they are which is slamming and hot songs, freestyle will be back on maistream radio...these songs i mentioned are quality songs, and deserve the attention.....radio stations need to wake up...

In Canada, freestyle incorporates electro, planet rock, breakbeat, breaks and energetic 2 step in addition to the old school sounds as an integral part of freestyle. This has created a new breed of fans, branded artists along with unprecendeted radio play and retail availability on major labels. With the exception of Brazil,Germany and some parts of southern Florida, the Canadian freestyle sound is not considered freestyle in the US and that is ok.

Yes , I think the Nu school artist are getting a boost Ashley , Nu Image , etc. need to get more shows and maybe one of these promotors can get them to do an ole school/new school tour.

I like the concept of Badboy Joe placing a bonus cd with the New school.

Amen Clubfossil, Krystal!!!! Again with the knowledge. I can't hear any talk about freestyle on it's ;ast breath. I was sorry to hear on the Kings and Queens of Freestyle DVD that some of the artists were working on material for other genres. I just had a friend I grew up with fly in from back home in Miami and we were out eating dinner in a small town in Maryland and we were talking about back in the day stuff. Well a pause in the conversation hit and that's when I realized that the restaurant was playing Expose' point of no return. A few song later they hit again with Cover Girls My heart skips a beat! Two huge freestyle acts and they were played in a restaurant in a little sleepy country town we happened to be in for my girl Carmens wedding
