Exactly. But our Canadian freestyle sound incorporates the breakbeat, electro, energetic 2 step and planet rock in addition to the traditional old school miami sound that is the basis of the U.S. sound. This is not always a favourite of or neighbours down south but closer to the freestyle trends of Germany and Brazil.
The classic Miami sound has really been cut down even from modern freestyle in the U.S...
But when you say Miami sound, these days you are probably referring more to bass-heavy breaks.
Personally I'd like to hear more heavy infusions of breakbeat and bass into freestyle beats. I think Randy Lance was on the right track with the Kromozone Project. Check out the mix of "Luv With U" thats on Freestyle Heaven 3.
So yeah in the U.S. basically there's three markets.. the SOUTH where its all about the breaks... the northeast (NYC and around there) where the freestyle fans are purists, and the much smaller fanbase out on the West Coast (SF Bay Area) where it seems to be blended with euro and electro sounds much like Canada.
I agree with you tarp[; many breaks, breakbeat and elctro sounds that are considered freestyle here do not make that mark in the U.S. but that's trends from one country to another hehe it's all good 🙂
