Gee Thanks DJ Sonik, lol.

Thread Is Staying open a bit longer for Jparker to have a
chance to respond. Take away all the fighting and this
thread is very valuable discussion.

This post would fit better here - it will also help the mood change a bit to a better discussion

-------------

I need to get more information about - what else is considered bootleging. so far I have noticed that some lables have problems with the following.

Compilations featuring songs used without permission.
Mix CDs and Tapes featuring songs used without permission.
and
intenet downloading (which is somewhat different).

I have wanted to do a compilation for years but Never attempted it. cause I mainly wanted to help promote what I thought were some of the best songs that never got real exposure

What I would like to know is, what else is considered bootlegging or piracy

Is it basically making money off someone elses product without thier permission? What if its something like a promotional givaway and all music credits are listed?

what about TV?

I know if its a main theme song permission is needed, but what if its just background music for something thats not for sale.

Ive seen videos with clips of people in Night clubs and theres dance music blasting in the background. how does that work?

Im a radio DJ so im mainly allowed to to play them on the air, for personal use and if by any chance i dicide to mix at a club or party, or festival or convention. Hey I need some new stuff man LOL.

but serously, what do I need to make a givaway promotional CD (non-profit)

To Mickey Garcia and all others who dont want their music used by dj's in a creative way.....Why would u expect us (dj's)to buy your music then?......To all dj's.....do not purchase or promote any music by record labels who threaten you with legal actions. Why should dj's have to worry about going to court? forget that....i say boycott anyone who threatens the dj culture..the main avenue of promotion of what we have left in freestyle!!!...I have purchased 100's of mic mac product in my years of dj'n freestyle...never once complained about the price of vinyle or cd's...but if i would have known then that the owner of Mic Mac would threaten dj's...i would NEVER have purchased a single product from them.......Mickey, I used to admire you,but your recent actions and written statements have tarnished the pedestal i have had u on as a mentor in producion..

:yeey

Will there be any D.O.S. Records vinyl?

RhythmFaktor, Let me set the record straight for you. I am not threatening DJ’s with legal actions who make mixes TO GIVE AWAY FOR FREE!!!

But if anyone, Including THE DJ’s Steal by way of making a MIX CD’s to Sell to a Record store so that store can re produce it and sell many Units? That is what I’m talking about.

Here is the many ways that BOOTLEGGING has been KILLING the BUSINESS….

1. DJ’s selling their mix to retail stores for mass re production which the label and artist loose profits from only the DJ supplying the MIX profits.

2. The Internet DOWNLOADING business. If they just made the mp3 start at the beginning of the first verse of the songs and end after or in the break, (Which I think is cool) That would STOP PEOPLE FROM BURNING IT TO CD’s. And I would consider that being PROMOTION!!!

So DJ RhythmFaktor, It’s not about the one copy that you sold at the DJ booth to someone drunk who liked your playing at a club. Even though that is in a sense stealing also but it’s about those guys out there that SELL MILLIONS OF BOOTLEGG CD’s in Flee Markets, Carnivals, Fairs, and like Jack mentioned Street Corners..

I am not going after the DJ’s…

I am going after the BOOTLEGGERS. And so is everyone else. The business is changing.. I figure I warn you before it’s to late. You can be arrested by a rep of Warner Bros, Sony, Arista before you even hear from me but I am the one talking and they are not so I was just trying to make a point and warn the bootleggers..

You know who you are and so do we..

You might as well come to my face and take the money right out of my pockets.. Do you think I would let anyone do that??? Would you let anyone do that to YOU???

I rest my case…

Have a wonderful day.

Mickey Garcia :spin

Mickey, let's be realistic now. There are compilation CD's of freestyle music all over and have been on the streets for years now. I don't see Aldo at Cutting running around worrying about who's bootlegging his shit. He's putting out good records and making money and it's not just freestyle. By the time you try to track down every Mic Mac track that's out there being sold on the street you'll be calling everyone of us to loan you money to pay your lawyer. Mickey there are young kids out there that love and continue to go out and by Mic Mac classics. You should be thanking all your artists for all the hard work they have done to keep Mic Mac on the dance map for as long as they did. They are still out there singing your songs and all the audiences are singing right along with them. Get yourself together, scrape up some talented producers and get your ass back into the studio and help put freestyle back on the dance map. Stop wasting your time getting yourself all upset because people have different opinions. Mickey you are to old for this shit. Put out some new slammin tracks and this shit about bootlegging will all be forgotten. Holla Holla !!!!!!!

I need more popcorn LMAO

I was waiting for someone to say something so cool like that!

i find it interesting how people say how selling mix tapes is illegal (which it is) then turn around and say that giving them away for free is acceptable. realistically, that should not be acceptable either. once a pre-recorded song is copied on a blank media , technically that is illegal.

be pro mix or not.

i think that mix tapes (general, not talking about selling or not selling) do/did help with bringing people to the stores and buying the product.

also here's a question on a person to person level, not mass bootlegging. what if a dj or whoever does charge for a recording, but only the amount of what the blank media cost ie. $3 for a tape? is that illegal?

amazing...thats all i have to say...maybe jack g should charge for all the FREE ADVERTISING that some producers do on here.Jack G mayne u should get a slice of the action that some producers are/will get from the shameless plugs on here...nuff said!

Maybe i'm totally wrong on this subject but here are my 7 cents L🙂L. I figure it this way, who cares, honestly NO OFFENSE to anyone but if it's all about the money YOUR GREEDY! This is purely entertainment! It shouldn't be about the money, you're doing what you love! DJS provide a service for those who are in need of music CORRECT? Why do they do that? Companies mass produce & sell the records > CORRECT? If it is so much of a problem now with all of this bootlegging you did it 2 yourself (you sold it: Therefore you made money for that record, DJS & anyone else who bought that record/material (BOUGHT IT) so they should be able to mix, edit, record 2 any format that they want.

This is and I Mean only my *OPINION* this is how i feel about this subject!

There's more but I had a Attack.....I ran out of popcorn

I'll say again & again *OPINIONS ARE JUST THAT opinions*

not exactly. a certain portion of the sales revenue goes right back to the music industries pocket. SONY MUSIC (SONY BLANK CASSETTES) is one big one. Fuiji, panasonic.....they all have to pay up to the big people in the end. do you think the big names would stand by and watch everyone use their blank cassettes/CDRS/VIDEOS to copy all their material? "NO", thats why they developed a system (i dont know how long ago) where the sales would go right back to the industry.

I just had to post on this subject, A DJ is just like a crack addict ,they have to be the first or have to own the CD or every 12 inch of there favorite style of music. Realistically it is an expensive hobby and most cannot afford it. The only way to obtain additional income is to sell mix tapes. Unfortunately the end user or buyer is in the same predicament. Why spend $80.00 on cd, vinyl etc. While they can get it for 10 to 15 dollars? As far as using mix tapes to promote artist, I've asked may people how they heard of me and the likely answer is a mix tape. But when asked if they have purchased the cd or record the likely answer is no. I've posted many times on this board to promote my cd and would like to thank Clubfreestyle for allowing me to do that. But at the same time that I was selling my CD, another member of this board had the balls to sell and include one of the songs in his mixed cd. So if you ask me as an artist that you are going to include one of my songs in your mixes to help promote, please don't do me any favors.

He's got big balls...She's got big balls...BUT I'VE GOT THE BIGGEST BALLS OF THEM ALL!!!

Alright, it was a tape, not a CD. It was a compilation, not a mix. AND I know of a few people who went out to the Music Factory to buy your album because I included "MY MOTHER WARNED ME" on that tape!

To top it all off, I ended up never selling the tape (because, on the Freestyle Nation BBD, you asked me not to make a profit off of one of your new songs). Instead, I gave away copies to people that asked me for it.

You're welcome!

"Open your eyes", it is Sammy C. Glad to see you on CF 🙂 😎

Rhoq, I know you've been a huge supporter of freestyle and trust me If I were to meet you, I would give you a huge hug!! The freestyle nation board was too long for me to remember. But the point I was trying to make is that mix tapes hurt more than promote. MEZ I belive that "open your eyes" was a DTU song. LOL! Your pretty close, I do have a song call "In your eyes". Thank you for welcoming me.
