Many of my hard earned dollars went to 12" records back in the early 90's thanks to my friends jammin' the latest mixed tapes out of Philly.

Hell, to this day...I'm still searching for songs I only heard on mixed tapes and CDs.

Many MANY mixed tapes have prompted me to buy the official recordings from stores.

Do you want to know where I first heard Willie Valentin's "NO MATTER WHAT"?

A mixed tape.

What did I do after hearing that wonderful song?

I searched for and bought MICMAC's entire FREESTYLE PARADE CD collection.

That's right, I had to SEARCH. There were no TV ads, no big shelf at the music store with a decent selection of FREESTYLE music, nothing...just those mixed tapes...It's sort of a double edged sword, I guess.

I think you need to go to China Town.

They Mass produce..

They are the ones that hurt the industry.

Not a couple of DJ's working their asses off to make
some noise and promote the music.

You should speak to the people at What If Productions
(Bad Boy Joe). They have ways to package
their cd's to thwart bootleggers.
its very sucessful for them.

Hello John,

ClubFreestyle Moderators are thier own people with their own
opinion. ClubFreestyle itself does not participate in any
such activites.

Our Volenteer Mods Moderate many different forums here
some not even relating directly to Freestyle Music.

I cannot tell them what to say. They are not my employees.
They are here on thier own time helping others and we appreciate
that.

I'm sure that your right, there probably isn't ANY research on Bootlegging Freestyle in particular but there is plenty of research on bootlegging. Not by any genre but just bootlegging cd's and mix cd's. There is not one shred of evidence that mix cd's are an effective way of promoting an artists career. Not from anything that I have ever seen over the years.

Again, I challange anybody that says that putting someones song on an illegal mix cd will help there career to show me an artist that has become big because of such a thing. I'm kind of confused by your quote: "honestly when was the last time a DJ broke a song & it became a hit." Doesn't that kind of prove my point? I know DJ's that have broken records in clubs and on mixshows but never one that broke a record from a mix cd.


I also agree that this style of music does need all the help it can get. As long as that help is legal. A person that sells mix cd's isn't doing it for the love of music. They are doing it for the love of money. Saying that they are doing it for the advancement of freestyle is b.s and an easy way for that person to try and make what he is doing feel right.

DJ's are an important part of any dance music label but when you start selling bootlegs your, in my opinion, not helping me, my label or my artist. You are helping your economic situation at my expense.

Is Bruckner Records still around??? I haven't been up that way in years.

Also I believe that you mis-quoted me. I didn't say this: "because as you said.. I don't think anyone from the freestyle genre has become "rich". " I know plenty of people in the Freestyle business, artist and labels that have made a great amount of money from this game. I don't know how many have held on to it but that's not really my concern.

I know that most people here have great intentions but taking music that isn't yours and selling it is actually a felony in New York State.

Aren't they supposed to be above getting into it with others in the manner that has happened on this thread or condoning illegal activities (felonys in this case)? Are you comfortable with the way that this thread has gone?

I am not comfortable with things that are said here
from time to time.

Here on ClubFreestyle we have a Private VIP forum for
moderators and myself. In there I state my opinions to
them and they know that i am against bootlegging and
stealing peoples music.

I give them my point of view and I ask for theirs.

We dont publically discuss issues that are private.

Moderators are hand picked by me for their great
communication skills. If months down the road they
express an opinion that you or anyone dosent
like..... Thats on them. I can only tell them in
private that they should try and tone it down.

Its up to them to comply. ClubFreestyle as a subsidirary of
a corporation is not responsible for anything our Mods say that
you may not like.

I just want to appologize to any CF FANS that have taken offense to my comments. This is my opinion and not the official stance of this wonderful board from which I am proud to represent. My views and opinions regarding Mickey Garcia, Mic Mac Records and his stance on the subject are mine alone. I again apologize to the FANS who may take offense to what I have said. We here in CF are passionate about what we feel is OUR MUSIC. I will do as Jack G requests because he has taken much effort to promote FREESTYLE and support FREESTYLE through his work here, just like all of you who continue to come here and contribute with your views and opinions. Please continue to do so.
