WELL SAID COMPANY B!!!!

EXCELLENT POINT GIVEN AND TAKEN BUT IT'S JUST LIKE WHEN I CAME OUT IN SUPPORT OF NELSON "FFWD" CRUZ (BABY DON'T GO/BABY NO TE VAYAS) FOR NOT BEING ADDED TO THE LATINO MIX 105.9 PERFORMANCE LINE UP ON 4/10/03 @ ROXY/10:18 BUT NO ONE SUPPORTED ME IN THIS EFFORT INSTEAD I GOT ALOT OF REASONS WHY HE POSSIBLY WASN'T ADDED ON.

A LATIN RADIO STATION NOT ADDING TO THEIR CONCERT A LATIN FREESTYLE ARTIST, WHO PERFORMS A TOTALLY KNOWN AND LOVED BILINGUAL (ENGLISH AND SPANISH) HIT FREESTYLE SONG. YOU KNOW JUST HOW CRAZY THAT MUST SOUND AND LOOK TO SOMEONE LIKE:

MTV, VH1, WKTU, Z100, POWER 105.1, HOT 97, WPLJ, LATINO MIX, SOUL TRAIN, URBAN LATINO TV/MAGAZINE, SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO, BILLBOARD MAGAZINE, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT (ET), EXTRA, ETC.

IT JUST SHOWS THAT THERE'S NO SUPPORT OR RESPECT BEING GIVEN OR OFFERED!!!!

I WAS TOTALLY SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED....

IT'S NOT LIKE THAT IN THE HIP-HOP, RAP, R&B MUSIC INDUSTRY. THEY AT LEAST GIVE THEMSELVES THE KNOWLEDGE OF RESPECT AND SUPPORT.

IT'S SAD TO SAY BUT THE FREESTYLE ARTISTS THEMSELVES ARE DOING IT TO EACH OTHER. IN MY POINT OF VIEW THEY DON'T DEFEND, SUPPORT OR BACK UP EACH OTHER.

SO IMAGINE THE MESSAGE THIS IS SENDING OTHERS WHO SEE A WEAKNESS AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE NON-SUPPORTIVE SITUATIONS:

IF THEY DON'T DO IT FOR EACH OTHER, THEN WHY SHOULD WE!!!!

:confused

Well, not at da artists,

But I am getting aggrivated more & more that our artists companies are not doing much to promote whats going on.
Whoever the promotion staff peeps are, they need to get with the f***ing program!!

Lil Suzy, TKA, Cynthia, Safire, & others have all released great material in the past years or so, especially this past year, & I dont see any videos, or promotion going on, or that WENT on.

In '97/'98, Lil Suzy's album "Paradise" was among her best, not only carrying a few freestyle tunes, but also new music that appeals to a larger audience such as Pop/Rock, Urban R&B, & Dance/Trance, including a phat House jam with the House "Goddess" herself, CRYSTAL WATERS.

I found it great that she explored new areas & widened her range, but hardly anyone noticed. (Of Course us Freestylers did.) But I coulda seen "I Still Miss You" as a radio hit, as well as possibly been on MTV.

Times have changed, & it aint the Freestylin' 80's & 90's anymore, but it's great to see our artists making new music, as well as sneaking in a few Freestyle tracks here & there.
Problem is..... NO ONE IS PROMOTING!!!

TKA & CYNTHIA are on a major label (TommyBoy/Timber), still, no videos, promotion campainges, radio/tv interviews, etc.

Cynthia's last album "Thinking About You" was great!, Again doin' freestyle, but tapping other "modern-day" genres. Was Cynthia even on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno"???? Nope.
TKA'a last album "Forever" was a lil' different. Had some house/ latin/ dance tracks, yet smooth R&B-Pop that will (& can still) appeal to todays audience. Are TKA on TRL?? ...Nope.

Safire will be retiring herself for a bit n' all, but her "Bringing Back The Groove" was kool as sh*t! The obvious duo with Cynthia "Can U Stand The Rain" still has potential to make it. Unfortunately, Safire will be doing other projects, but I hope it will blow up!

Lil' Suzy released her "Greatest Hits" this year, along with 3 new songs, hopefully they will do something or hopefully her next album will be off da hook! I can truly see her as a Latin/Italian Idol on the cover of "Teen People", & other publications along with today's young divas.

If Kylie Minouge's "Cant Get u Outta My Head",
Daniel Bedinfeild's "Gotta Get Thru This", Dirty Vegas,
& The DAMN Ketchup's song, & other things that are good, but, not-as-talentful-as-are-freestyle-artists-can-do, ...If they can get out there & get majorly popular, & have videos, .....Then with the right producers, energy, time, & PROMOTION, our artists can do better!

Maybe it's just me, but I can seriously see it happen for the better if PROMOTION gets done.
That's whats PISSIN' ME OFF!!!!

PROMOTE DAMMIT!!! .....PROMOTE!!!!!!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

I hope Cynthia's next album (coming soon), & Lil' Suzy, TKA, Safire, Nick Colon, D'Luna The China Doll, Johnny O, Cheree', Nyasia, Richard Lugo, Gioia, Mikaila, Jordan Knight, Rockell, Coro, etc, will be given the chance & PROMOTION to show the world the potential & awsome talents they have to offer.

& To show that J-Lo, Enrique, Shakira, Dirty Vegas, & Daniel Bedingfield, etc, are not the only Latino's or Dance/R&B-Pop artists that can rock da house!!!

I just hope it all goes well for our artists,
maybe better & bigger than the 1st time around. Even if its not Freestyle they do anymore.
(Like India, Brenda K., & G.L., Marc, Shana)

These are just my personal thoughts, & I wish you all the best.
One,

Radio stations play a big roll here.

I've been trying to promote Lufre Record's CD " Estilo Libre" Lluvia de estrellas vol.2 and it's been up hill. I couldn't even get it squeeze it into the station I work @, my boss told me (as many others have) that he doesn't know any of the artist on the CD. That he also looked them up in Billboard and couldn't find any of them. Seems to me like if X radio ain't playing it Z radio either.

Honestly, if you want this genre to get on the air promoters and artist will have to get involved 110% in the promotion of their new projects. And if the promoters want to sit on their @sses then the artist should try what ever they have to to get it on the air.'don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that freestyle artist are not trying ... but they're gonna have to try harder.

Start visiting radio stations, and if you have to do "Payola" (pay the station's program director to play your song) then do it! but do whatever to get that song on the radio. I know it's illegal to do "payola". but maybe you'll have to pay today, and tomorrow you might get paid.

It's a shame.

So many artists have such talent and they aren't exposed to the whole world like they should be, just the freestyle world.

Like someone here stated... let us know what we can do to help get their music / videos promoted.

Thanks.
Gina

Freestyle music is never going to be where it once was. Nor will it ever be what it once was. People have to come to terms with it. Bottom line. Put yourself in the artists' shoes for a moment. Do you think they sit on their asses and wait for someone to come to them with an idea about a video or a remix? Hell no! How many artists do you think have tried to make a video, let alone have it played on a major video network? Quite a few. Freestyle is considered as a joke. It's not taken seriously as a form of music. Forget about KTU and Club Freestyle for a second. Freestyle may exist in certain areas, but when was the last time you've heard a "new" Freestyle track on a major radio station? I haven't heard one in a while. When was the last time you've heard a new Hip-Hop track? Every day. Radio isn't concerned with the needs of a specific music genre, but more concerned about ratings and what sells. Same goes for MTV, BET, and VH1. Yeah, they've played Freestyle videos years ago. But, I've never seen a video by Rockell on either network. But I've seen the same tired-ass video's day in and day out that I don't even bother watching videos any more. No one wants to hear Freestyle anymore. In a world dominated by Rock, Pop, Rap, and Dance, Freestyle doesn't have a place anymore. Besides, I think the whole problem here is that once you are labeled as a Freestyle artist, you remain in that catergory and you become stuck. You have a better chace labeling yourselves as a dance artist and becoming a part of the whole genre, not a sub-genre. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the shit you hear is too repetitive and straight-up cheesy. I used to appreciate Freestyle so much, but I don't bother no more because it doesn't give me that feeling that it once did. It's the same topic, the same beat, the same song but a different artist, same group name with totally different artists. Who the hell wants to deal with that shit? I certainly don't. Until labels, producers, artists start to give a shit about what they release then I'll totally back them up 100%. In the meantime, I'll continue to look for music that I can relate to on all levels; something different. People need to stop whining and look at it from a different perspective. Look at it on a business level. Do you think Jennifer Lopez would be where she's at today if she was only singing Freestyle on every album? Probably not.

It's sad to admit it but it's true. Nobody cares for freestyle anymore. Like I said, I've been trying with everyone I know in the radio business in PR and none of the stations want to play freestyle.
They rather play "John Doe's" Rock in spanish rather than well known freestyle artist.

I'll say it again, don't get me wrong ... my heart is all about freestyle, but it's up hill to get freestyle where it was. This is not the only genre suffering a down, Merengue and Salsa artists are having a hard time too.

ANSWER THIS QUESTION????

WHY DON'T A FEW NEW OR OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE ARTISTS GET TOGETHER AND RECORD A NEW FREESTYLE SONG FEATURING EACH OTHER AS WELL AS FILMING THE SONG'S VIDEO?

IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN SIMPLY BECAUSE NEW AND OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE ARTISTS DON'T LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER THERE'S NO UNITY OR RESPECT GIVEN TO EACH OTHER AS IN THE HIP-HOP, RAP, R&B MUSICAL SCENE.

Dr. Style- What you said is totally true. The quality of the music has simply gone down hill. Hip Hop is totally going to be around for ever. And why? Because Hip Hop is a market. Thousands of companies are cashing in because Hip Hop has a huge following. And why are these rappers so well-off? Because companies are supplying them with Burberry coats, Channel earrings, Fendi bags, Moet and Two-Ways. That's what all this shit comes down to. It's a business. It's ridiculous. Freestyle will never step up to the plate. Freestyle has nothing to offer. Why do you think Dance music has remained a powerful force in the music genre? Because it's constantly changing. Freestyle is still the same as it was back in 1986.

Whatever it's worth, I love Freestyle music. It's definitely my first choice of "listening" music.

Much Love!!!

Company B, You said everything I wanted to say but couldn't express all at once. I couldn't agree with you more. That is why after there was no mainstream break-through after the release of all that new material from the already know old school artists, I had to realize that a mainstream break-through for freestly might not happen. But then again who knows what the future holds. Hopefully good thinks for freestyle.

The Underdog Project was a Canadian-german co-production signed to Kontor Records of Germany (also home of international dance acts Darude, ATB, etc.). The project is dismantled and Vik, the lead singer from Vancouver, Canada has moved on to a solo recording and his last freestyle single was "I Just called (to say I love you)" on Miami Bass Recods/Distel Media/Sony Music Germany.

The Underdog Project was Canada's biggest dance music export to date, selling 6 million copies worldwicde and having three consecutive top 10 dance hits in the freestyle genre: "summer jam", "tonite" and "I Can't Handle it". Unfortunately, the project did not enjoy the same popularity in the US as it did in Canada and Europe. It was nominated last year for a Juno award, canada's equivalent of the grammys for best dance recording.

Yeah I have said this time and time before and the artist's companies wish to think they are doing a great job when they are not. There are so many record stores in the Chicago area, as well as anywhere else. They need to do simple things like putting flyers or posters in the record stores. I don't know who they have promoting their artists, but they forget the simple modes of communication. I have a marketing degree, but you don't need one to do simple things like this!

MTV sucks as well as alot of the groups that they promote.

How about DTV-- Dance TV
