I went to an advance screening of "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" tonight at The Director's Guild and all I have to say is it is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am a huge fan of the original film, and I went to the screening totally preparing to hate it, but I left actually liking it MORE than the original. For one thing, it is almost exactly like the book (which is also called "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory", NOT "Willy Wonka") where the original movie was a lot different, and it has a lot of parts that are really funny. The special effects are great and the actors are all perfect in their parts.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!! FIVE STARS!!!
 
I can't wait to see it. I loves the book and the original movie, and I happen to think Johnny Depp is one of the best modern day actors.
 
Well I can tell you that I didn't believe that the original can be topped, but this film really did it! Everyone in the audience was laughing at the funny parts (and there were a lot) and even though this one is not really a musical like the original, there are still musical numbers in it, because in the book the Oompa Loompas did their songs. Johnny Depp was very wacky and a little Michael Jackson-eqsue at times (scary!) but he is such a great actor he is completely believable in the role. All the children are great in their parts, and Freddie Highmore as Charlie brings a lot of depth and emotion to his part. I can't wait to hear what all you fellow die-hard fans of the original movie think after you have a chance to compare!
 
From the commercials, Johnny Depp is scary looking as Willy Wonka.

However, there is one line in the commercial that kills me.

and old woman says to him, "You smell like peanuts." and he says back....."and you smell like.......old people."

good to see you enjoyed that damian, i didnt think it'd be a good movie! i loved the original but hated that corny singing (i.e. cheer up charlie :barf), hope this one'll be better
 
saw it today!!!!!! friggin great!!!!! my kids loved it!!!!! baby sat thru the whole thing!!! Johnny Depp is awesome!!!! and I must say this is one of those trip on acid / smoke a joint kinda flicks!!!!! :sbounce
 
I never seen the original but I love movies like this with fantasy 😀
