I Have a question for all, What do you think about street mixes? I know I have spoken to some artists and some Dj's. about this subject, and I decided to find out from everybody in the business and around it (Fans).
The reason I ask is because I was listening to a mix tape that my brother had from back in 96 and i Notice Eminem on it as well as 50 Cents. and I started to think this is far back and didn't Eminem came out in 2000 and 50 Cents in 2003? If these huge rappers feat. on these mix cd/tape way back when, then these DJ's should get some respect for putting these mixes out.
Now I know you guys are asking what the hell does Rap fit in, well My question is base on Freestyle Mixes. Most of the artists have been feat. in dozens of Mix tapes and a lot of us new school artists got known in different areas because of these mixes.
Alot of the artists that spoke to didn't like the idea of being in these mixes because "they rip the artists from their music and they made money of those mixes."
Ok i'm with that and understand that.
And the Dj's that I spoke to said that, "Fans always ask them information about certain artists, but didn't have anything to give to the fans."
Ok I hear that and understand as well.
My thought on mixes if it weren't for these Dj's have us wouldn't be known in some areas that Freestyle don't or didn't exist. Dj's didn't even play the whole song, and it was mix. As for the artists point of view I think we should give information to the djs so they promote us the correct way the fans can buy our music.
Have Anybody heard a hip-hop mix? Let me know what ya think.
