The Gay Lord of Freestyle
the "Live365" website has a message board similar to this one, and there are different forums for different types of music. One forum is called "Dance/Electronica", because there are soooo many different types of dance music.
Someone on the board thought that there should be an "encyclopedia" of dance music created, so that every type of dance music could be referenced, and this was the list that was created.

Dance..Deep House..Detroit Techno..Disco-House..Downtempo/Chillout
Drum'n'Bass/Jungle..Dub..Electro..Electro Pop..Electronica/Dance generic

Then, member called optimus_primal came on and posted this.....
The only thing that was left out of that list is "Freestyle" very cheezy dance that existed almost exclusively on the east coast of the USA very late 80's early 90's. Please don't ASK. But if you want a good chuckle go search some of these tracks ----->
(TKA - louder than love , Coro - where are you tonight , Corina - temptation )just to name a few .
You soooo know I wasn't going to let this go.....so I put this on the board...
Wow!
With opinions like that, it's no wonder that freestyle has such a difficult time at radio.
Don't misuderstand me. I have no offense against you or your opinion.
Freestyle still has a strong following among Latinos, Italians, and (my community) gays. Numerous acts in the mid 80's to the early 90's managed to hit the Hot 100 with their singles.
I have been fortunate enough to meet (some) the people who perform this music (which you chuckle at) ....Judy Torres, TKA, Cover Girls, George LaMond, Nyasia, Sweet Sensation, Coro, Lil' Suzy, & More, Tonasia, Safire, Cynthia, as well as "new school" acts who are still making this music, and struggling to get it heard. They are down to earth, friendly people, who have taken time to meet with fans, shoot pool with them, go to diners with them, and personally thank us for the support we continue to throw their way.
As for freestyle being an "East Coast" music, I have received emails and my website's guest book has been signed by people from Texas, Montreal, Ca., Nevada, The Netherlands, Brazil, Toronto, New Mexico, Austria, Finland, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Germany, and Isreal.
Freestyle may not be as "dark" "brooding" or popular as other forms of dance music, but it is a legitimate form of dance music, and deserves to be on any list.
