How do you make a move to another state with a family, if you don't have a home of your own over there and you can't get a home unless you have a job first?

What would you do? (Just curious to see the responses)

well, i did that when i moved from nj to pa. it was sooo hard. we stayed with my sister in law and it was okay at first but the tension started building quickly. my husband worked like a dog and saved up money so we could get the hell out of there as fast as possible! it's been ok since but i always say "you can take the girl out of jersey, but you cant take jersey out of the girl".

Yes and that's the part that I wanted to get into.........the tension of living with family. I think it's only easy when you have enough money put away, right?

i'm gonna say yes, if you could have enough money saved up when you move thats probably better. this way it makes things easier on eveybody.the quicker the better.if you knew my sister in law believe me you'd want to get out as quickly as possible ! lol

Do you think it's just as hard finding work?

Think about maybe short term renting before buying.. This way you will at least have settled for a few months until you get a job and familiarize yourself w/ the area..

i guess it depends on the type of work you are looking for. in my husbands case he started working for a temp agency that kept him with the same job. so if they offered over time he jumped at it.

But no one will let you rent an apartment unless you have the job first. And that seems to be a problem. Because we don't know where the hell to begin.

that is true because most places to rent from ask you to fill out an application and list references and place of employment

I would rather live in a hotel than with family. I don't need that kind of tension. Really. I don't have the patience. But I'm trying to see if anybody would've of thought of something that I haven't thought of.

Good morning LaBetty, I too have been thinking of moving out of state. I love NY, but it's just getting too expensive. What I've been doing is the places i'm interested in, I go online and see if that area has a website for the actual municipality and for the chamber of comerce. From there, there should be information about employment. A couple of sites I went to, it was categorized and you start with what line of work you want first. You get lots of detail and many times even on-line applications. You can even get info about the schools that way and housing. Maybe a rental WOULD be a good idea, witha month to month lease til you get to know the area and are more settled...just some ideas...Good luck!

Dianita, thankyou for your helpful information. I'm going to look into that. But now, in order to fill out applications for jobs, we can't use our NY address because they'll probably be confused and wonder why I'm applying for a job in Florida but my resume and application have my NY address. A cousin of mine told me to use her address in Florida and I laughed and said to her "what happens when they call me and say, 'can you come in for an interview tomorrow?'" She died laughing. But it's true.

This is a very stressful situation, but you can pull it off Yvette. It's just a matter of planning & some sacrifice y una ayudita si es posible. When I decided to come back from P.R. I set some goals, saved some $$$, sold my cars, & left my fam. behind (hardest part) so I could get us situated. I stayed @ my sister's crib for a month (felt like years), got a job (puttin in 80hrs @ times), bought a car, got an apt., & sent to get my fam. Mind you I bought my kids beds, lil t.v.'s, you know the necessary starter stuff, y nosotros con mattresses only....pero lo logre y tu tambien puedes !!!! I rented a 2 bedroom w/ wifey & my 3 kids for about 2 years, then I bought another house out here.
