no specifics i know what i know .hype is one thing soundscan is another .
alot of the people you guys are mentioning got albums that might have reached gold status or passed it .
but not on the strength of a freestyle single or sounding track.
shannon is not considered freestyle even though she came right before it started

Kay, can you give an approximation as to how mant singles were sold of...Scars Of Love, Tears May Fall or Maria? I'm a bit suprised that none of them, for example, went Platinum (1,000,000 in the USA for platinum, right?) Or at least went Gold IF they didn't. Every fan/dj etc. but a copy or two of those freestyle hits....I know I bought 2 copies of everyone....

Kay I meant when dj's make those freestyle comp, or mix CD's titled "freestyle this or Freetysle that" she is in it. maybe the higher ups in the industry do not consider her freestyle, but some do.

But then again alot of what some people consider freestyle these days, isn't freestyle to me either.
 
Exactly kay, "how many freestyle artists have gone platinum" that was the question. Now your saying that Stevie B has never gone platinum, i did not mean it had to be a freestyle single, just overall. And i know what i know as well buddy, and that is Stevie B has gone platinum. You may not believe what i say cause im a fan and your an artists and all and you should know more etc etc, but the truth is the truth pal.

I believe it has been confirmed that Lil Suzy's "take me in your arms" was a gold single in the USA, it was also the best selling 12" single for 1992 or 1993 according to Billboard magazine (I dunremeber if it was 92 or 93).

You are right in regards to gold singles in different places; up here in Canada, we are the world's biggest country with only have 30 million people living in it. A gold record is 25,000 copies, platinum is 100,000 and one million copies sold gets the artist a "diamond" sales appelation. Happy holidays everyone 🙂
 
The king Stevie B is a 3 time platinum recording artists and the link below confirms that, you may have to type it in though. And as far a shannon being freestyle of course she is, "let the music play", "give me tonight", and "my hearts divided" is as much freestyle as any freestyle track ever made. How can people sit their and say that she's not freestyle, thats crazy it's like saying Safire is country.

Too bad so many members at this sight are clueless as to the roots of freestyle. Arthur Baker, John Robie, Kraftwerk & Afrika Bambaataa. Those are the 4 you can thank for freestyle. They created electro funk, which combined with HI-NRG, gave us freestyle. Without those 4, this whole convo wouldn't even be happening, nor would this site. Credit never goes where it's deserved.

Anthony, i proved this nearly 3 years ago on the old CF board. I shouldnt have to retrieve the facts again.

I even had one kid tell me it was "FREESTYLE" just over the fact that CHRIS BARBOSA had his hand in it. I quikly put the theory to sleep.

You cant prove to me that it "is" freestyle, can you ANt? I mean, just because it's on some FREESTYLE comps doenst mean anything. then we should consider "2 W/O HATS" freestyle?

as for those 4 groups you mentioned, sure...."give credit where credit is due" but if were going to go that far back as to prasining our forefathers, lets give thanks to the ones that really started it....."the blues" generation.

Stop this nonsense, Shannon's 3 singles are 100% freestyle and promoted as such until today! Just ask Chris himself! We are part of a global community and our definition of the current freestyle sound may differ (i.e. inclusion of breakbeat, energetic 2 step, electro, planet rock, etc. as an integral part of the sound); but for the classics, there is no dissagrement.
Anthony, you are right, Kraftwerk, afrika bambataa and others must be given credit where it is due; I am not sure this is the right thread for it though hehe

Ant, I still have to disagree on your theory. but you know what, we all have our opinions. But you still didnt provide me with any proof. Like i said, I personaly know a guy that worked on the song and he ultimately said it wasnt FREESTYLE.
