How many beat per minute (bpm) is considered freestyle??? Between 115 and 135??? Lemme know what you guys think???

That's a good azz question! But I think it's one of those things where everyone's perception could be different. Songs like "I Can't Wait", "Hooked On You", & "Let Me Be The One" are considerably slower than than most other freestyle records but still most freestyle fans consider them to be. I think it's all in the eye of the beholder. I don't think this question has a correct answer.

Traditional Freestyle usually remained between 115 and 125 BPMs, straying to faster territory on occasion. Over the past 5 or 6 years the BPMs have ventured into a very scary 130-140 BPM range with the onset of Progressive Freestyle.

Tran, since you are from Canada too; we understand one another fine hehe. 128 to to 140 bpm is cool up here; in the electro, planet rock, 2 step and breakbeat genres of freestyle.

I Feel...

I see what all of you are saying. Me, being a vocalist I am comfortable at about 120 bpm. Just thinking about 140 is terrifying to me!!! lol The beat needs to be adjusted to the artist's pace in many circumstances. I can recall hearing songs where the beat is much to fast for the artist to sing to or vice versa!!!

Some songs were as slow as 108 (Hungry for your love)
Some songs were as fast as 126 (Diamond girl) with some of the 'newer' stuff in the 130's.

But you dont decide if a song is freestyle or not just because of the bpm !! LOL

That is True FreestyleTruth!

I do agree with you FreestyleTruth that a song cannot be labeled as freestyle just by the bpm. There are so many more elements to it. But speed can be one element that is worthwhile investigating. It is true one knows a certain song is "freestyle" by listening to it. Not many of us sit there counting the beats, but I felt it would be interesting to see if there was some sort of standard.

Can someone name a song and artist of progressive freestyle just as an example?

Hey guys , The bpm for freestyle is at least 105-125.Anything beyond that like 128-140 is a techno beat. But can sumone tell me what was the fastest freestyle song ever ? I bet it was Jocelyn Enriquez's "Get into the rhythm".Nah , i think that was around 120-125 bpm.

precious - lollipop

that's a really fast song

but why does freestyle have to be so slow? I thought it was dance music!

i set all my new songs between 133 and 137....for energy and club play and plain ol' eveolution of music =)

before 115-125 was considered norm, then in the late 90's the progressive sounds hit 128-138 and now with new freestyle coming out in 2003 ... some of us producers are going to the 120-130 range ...

New Elissa "Who's crying now", Prima Dona "Lucky Star (DRC Remix)" and Freestyle Project "baby baby baby" are all well above 135-140 bpm.
Most newer singles in the electro, planet rock, breakbeat and 2 step genres of freestyle hover between 130-140bpm.
