I'm curious because I see a lot of posts here say that the music is dead, that it's biggest artists have moved on, that those artists are sell outs. There is always going to be debate about what is freestyle and what isn't. The same goes for the new sounds as opposed to the old. We are never going to agree on these things but that's ok. My question is this, with the number of freestyle fanatics growing smaller (than it was at it's height), what exactly are YOU doing to help the cause? How are you helping get the music more notice? Or does anyone feel that it's not their problem to deal with and that your just in it to hear some great music. Again I'm just curious as to what the real die hard fans feel about this.

Thanks.

Well, first of, I try to buy some CDs once in a while that I see have good tracks (such as the new release of Freestyle Heaven 3). Also I play it for friends that just don't like Freestyle and it gets em hooked on a couple of songs. It's tough, some of my friends laugh that I'm a Freestyle fan, but I just say, I'm a hardcore fan, then they admit they like some songs and stuff, it's pretty tough to "promote" a style that isn't very popular anymore, but I try.

how do i support FREESTYLE?

I play it all the time
I got to all the shows to support
I buy the cds/12's/cassettes (i dont go to napster!!!!!)

I play it for my friends, especially the younger ones who never heard it before, everyone knows when I have a party IN MY HOUSE, the music being played will most likey be freestyle, also I buy CD's, go to clubs where a freestyle artist is performing,....not to much u can do as a fan....the question is, What are the Artists doing????, I asked SaFire A question in this forum "are u gonna make any videos for ur new songs" her answer was NO,...I mean nowadays in order to get people into your music u gotta put out a video, I myself have heard songs on the radio and said Ewww! Then when I see the video I fall in love with the record,....I know they probably got money issues, but they should at least try!

I got nuttin but love 4 her, and the rest of da Freestyle Artists, I just would LOVE 2 see more people getting into freestyle.

Haha...very interesting post Mr Parker !!

One of the things that gets to me is the amount of people that email and ask me to email them an MP3 of new songs I play on KTU. Or the amount of posts I read on this board of people asking about info on new songs....and if anyone can email them the song either via email or napster. Not very often do i read people asking what STORE or WEBSITE they can PURCHASE the song.

Kenny..how can your hands be cold and sweaty at the same time !?!?

Buy, buy

Johnny, as always, I'm in agreement with you on this issue. I wish people would support the artist, writers, and producers, by buying the CD or requesting it on the radio.

I download too, but I'll buy a legitamite copy I like it. I even bought the Funkdoobiest record recently for the Freestyle mix in it, but the mix was not there.

The fan's best way to support Freestyle music is just that--buy CDs and make radio requests.

Another way they can support Freestyle is to come out to the clubs that play FREESTYLE...like Atlantis in Staten Island, NY this Friday with Judy Torres and Johnny Budz...LOL

Remember, freestyle originated in the clubs in the 80's. Who knows what can happen if a freestyle night blows up and becomes huge. It can only be positive.

Alot of people emailed me and posted messages about how Poor Billys sucks for getting rid of me and the freestyle night we had there. But those were mostly the same peeps that NEVER stepped foot in Poor Billys to support the club themselves.

I also agree bout getting the legit copy first, but if I can get the legit one. I try to find it other ways. Plus it gets really hard to find a lot of freestyle here.

I don't mind people downloading MP3's if it's for listening purposes and with the understanding that if you like the music that you will go and make a purchase. As you can see, we have not taken any of our stuff off of Napster. We feel that it's like one giant listening station and as far as I know none of our artists have asked for such an action to take place. But on the other hand if the artists and labels aren't supported then what choice do they have? Music is a business.

As for the post about Safire not doing a video, I can't say that I blame her. Videos (even cheap ones) cost a lot of money to make. Without the prospect of getting a MTV type backing how many people are really going to see it? We sold a whole bunch of "In A Dream" records with no video, so to say that you "need" a video is a bit untrue. Maybe Club Freestyle can add a video section. There are a couple of Trance & Euro sites that have this section so why not one of the biggest freestyle sites?

Johnny,

Great point about the club support. And that leads me to my next topic of discussion, What about a Freestyle Fan Festival? Do you think that we could make something like this a reality? I'd imagine you'd have to start small but if they can get 1,000 Star Trekkies into a convention hall I'm sure that we could do better than that. I know that some people have informal get togethers but what about something that's positive & inclusive for all the freetyle community? Just a thought.

Good point JB.

I myself buy it. I have yet to ask someone for an mp3 or download a song from napster. I totally believe in order to own something you need to buy it & not freeload it from somebody. If you really wanted a song you would look online for a store to buy it.

Then there's the argument of not being able to find it in your area. That's the label fault. They need to get their product out there & hustle. It's no wonder we are in the situation we are in. I'm not saying any names but I doubt the label owners are sending their pieces to the dance radio stations.

Johnny, I personally don't totally agree w/the mp3 thing. Why? Cause sometimes a lot of us happen to have the song on CD somewhere, but want a digital copy to make a custom CD. Also, a lot of new songs out there aren't on any CD yet, I don't have a record player, nor do I have a CC, so I can't exactly order stuff online. So the only option is an mp3 until the song is available more easily. Hey, I've got mp3s too, stuff that I didn't own, but guess what, I'm buying the CD that contains some of those tracks, as it just came out! 🙂 mp3s aren't illegal, it's just the widespread of them that makes them illegal.

i feel that we MUST show support as MUCH as we can by buying the music... BUT...honestly...unless i have TONS of money like KAOS 🙄 there is no way i could afford every song or cd i want!! (keep in mind most of us listen to alot of different types of music besides freestyle...and theres only a certain amount of money one can spend) so i resort to downloading.
now....how is a company losing money by me downloading a copy of a song i would have NOT bought at all anyways??? On the contrary...its exposing me to their music and if i like it enough then i will buy it.

THUMBS UP for MP3's!!!

as far as mp3s go, i usually backup all my cds i have into mp3 in case i ever lose my CDs. i also download stuff that are only available on 12", for one i dont have turntables that i can play them and even then, the rare old stuff are hard to find. so basically mp3s are the only way I'll be able to listen to the whole song.

now as far as new freestyle is concern, i buy as much as i can if its good. like most of willie's artistik stuff I have ordered directly from him. so i buy new stuff whenever i can. for club wise, im not a clubbin type but ill try to go to a freeestyle show when there is one. havnet been to one since last may though 🙁
