my brother and his friends into breakdancing. and they always bumped to traxx and i remember takings tapes and cd form my brother but not really paying attention to the titles. at this time wild 107.7 had become a powerhouse of freestyle music, and also KMEL 106.1 at the time played freestyle. however wild had a strong focus on Freestyle in there mixes. i remember the first traxx i fell in love with were judy torres "come into my arms", maribel "roses are red", cbank "i wont stop loving you", and trinere's "all nite". i remember i had a few tapes with dubs of the mishows. however i lost most of them. but it wasn't until 1996 that i found my love for freestyle music. it was during the era of jocelyn enriquez's "do you miss me", planet soul's "set u free", "angelina's "release me", and laura martinez "ritmo latino". after that i was hooked and afte ri learned the term "freestyle" was on a search to find more "freestyle" soon i discovered many records i liked were in fact freeestyle records!

I first heard freestyle..

from Tom Matthews and Shawn Sobo from the "Tmatt/Sobo" show every Sunday night 1360 AM...They rocked with Bettina and Corina and Lil Suzy...

Plus nights at Quo Vadis in WIldwood with TKA!!

yo i started hearin freestyle when i was just a little kid (like 4, 5 yrs old). my mom loved songs like "let the music play", "i wonder if i take u home" and madonna's early early early records ("everybody", "physical attraction"). i was just a baby when a lotta this came out but she had tha records and listened to them for years (even to this very day)! she also liked stevie b. & expose'. i also heard freestyle through my older sister who of course was in love w/johnny o. she started listenin around that time when him and cynthia were first breaking. we're from queens and her & my brother used to listen to hot97 (so i did too) and i remember when hot97 was playing "together forever" non-stop and freestyle was gaining more and more popularity!

IN MY CASE, I HAVE AN OLDER SISTER AND HER EX-BOYFRIEND USE TO BE A BOUNCER AND THEN MANAGER OF SOME CLUBS UP IN N.Y. MY SISTER USE TO GO OUT WITH MY OLDER CUZINS AND FRIENDS TO THE CLUBS TO SEE ALL THE FS ARTISTS PERFORM AND ONE DAY I WAS LISTENING TO THE RADIO AND STEVIE B. WAS ON HOT 97... I WAS LIKE "I WANT TO GO CHECK OUT STEVIE B. LIVE AT THE CLUB...." WORD UP, MY SIS DECIDED TO TAKE HER NINE Y/O BROTHER TO THE CLUB AND TOLD HER MAN AT THE TIME "YO' DO WHATEVER YOU GOTTA DO TO GET MY LIL' BROTHER INTO THE CLUB." FROM HERE IT WAS OVER.. THEN CAME NOEL, TKA, JUDY TORRES, LIL SUZY (SHE WAS ALSO ABOUT 9 Y/O AT THE TIME W/ HER SONG "RANDY"). THAT IS WHEN I BECAME THE FREESTYLE CHILD.
