This sh*t right here is OFF the HOOK. Mad props to Doman and Gooding for remixing this classic freestyle tune. Betty and the girls would be proud, now lets hope he likes other freestyle songs and remake them.
 
There's a lot of stuff like that nowadays, remaking/recreating something old (across genre lines). There were a few examples of it in last night's halftime show. Some of it can be very creative but when it winds up being better than what's current, it can come across as existing just cuz everything is so stagnant in the music industry currently. Dance music is a good example, stuff like this exists in large part cuz real underground dance music is dead. Most of what one hears in the clubs nowadays is pop dance or dance remixes of pop hits.

Anyone like "Buzzin' by Mann fea. 50 Cent? Love how they sample Nu Shooz - "I Cant Wait"!

It's pretty kool how the last few yrs they been sampling or remaking older songs. Doesn't bother me, I like it. It gives them new life, and introduces the originals to todays kids who enjoy the new one.

Nope. WRONG. Not the "Real" clubs at least.
The underground Dance scene & clubs still thrive as far as House/Tribal & Dance circuit music is concerned. While u will hear the occasional remix or remake sampled track of an oldie, the major hits are mostly NEW original stuff. I'm a patron, club-goer & mixer, And if u saw how packed these clubs get on a weekly basis & how ridiculously HUGE the DJ parties are like WMC, Ultra, Winter Party, White Party, Pacha, Alegria, etc, that come see DJ's spin like: Tony Moran, Junior Vasquez, Manny Lehman, Rosabel (DJ Abel & Ralphi Rosario), Offer Nissim, Erick Morillo, Afrojack, David Guetta, Armand Van Helden, Peter Rauhofer, etc. You would change ur mind.

If u experienced these events or were part of them on a weekly/monthly basis, you would change your mind. - lol
There's a whole other Dance music world out there that's still very healthy.

And this is on an International level, not just local or national. Most of these parties are held in Florida, NYC, Chicago, CA, UK, South America, Europe & Israel. And no, it isnt only the Gay folks, straight people are there too. (Keep in mind this is the 80's & 90's Freestyle & House music crowd mixed with todays kids) on a much higher level, & more "evolved". Anything goes. Many of these party goers are of all races & backgrounds, From ghetto to chic, Hip-Hop heads, celebs, gay & straight ppl, all having a great time & sharing their love for DANCE music.

Many of them constantly travel to different cities or countries just to be there. And many of the Freestyle headliners/producers back in the day. are STILL some of the headliners today; Tony, Junior, Manny, Todd Terry, Little Louie Vega/ Masters At Work, Robert Rodriguez, Robi-Rob Clivilles, Jellybean, and the list goes on. And even tho it's not Freestyle at all, u will still find folks like Expose', India, Company B, Madonna, Taylor Dayne, P.Diddy, etc, "surprise-attack" performing or hanging out at these events, and the crowd still goes nuts. ;-)
Why?? because these crowds know their Dance music. (Wether it's old or new). When u get a chance, I suggest u attend one of these clubs or parties in your area, and u will see things differently my friend.
It's not all Top 40, Radio, MTV & BET. - A whole world & culture out there.

And yes, that new version of "Hooked On You" and it's remixes are already burning the dancefloors!

I thought I was just pointing out the obvious. Where is this dance music scene? I go to a lot of different clubs and the format is always a mixture of top 40 dance remixes, salsa/merengue/etc., reggaeton, and some old school house. And I do understand that I'm here in Chicago and things operate kinda different than in other markets.

Cultureclash' post reminds me of the "keepin' vinyl alive" discussions that I would see here on these freestyle websites during the last few years. I knew it couldn't be real, I investigated it, and indeed vinyl was over a long time ago. And furthermore, after everything I've seen in the clubs the last few years, it's like: What universe are peeps livin' in? Or is life just a game to mess with my mind?

HEY, I WANT THIS STUFF TO STILL BE ALIVE. I'M JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW WHERE ALL THIS IS AT?

One can't compare a market like Miami to Chicago but you did mention Chicago in your post as a location where this scene is happenin'.

I agree with CultureKlashJEFF that the club scene is not dead and that for years even though some Freestyle artist no longer make Freestyle music there is a large market for house/tribal music and some have op to go in this direction. However all of this music is relative to one another, most die hard fans forget that freestyle and house (and all of its incarnations) music always co-exited. I have gone to many clubs and have seen Freestyle artist enjoying the music and/or performing and the crowd goes wild. Just because its not on the radio does not mean its not out there, its just harder to find now a days.
Now as far as the International market goes, Freestyle is still a mainstream market. Look at the German and Brazilian market and you will still find new artist making Freestyle music. The thing is that "we" Americans have a hard time excepting that and the reason being is that most people are so caught up in the 80's and can't let the Artist or the music "evolve". But new flash, it has Evolved, your either with it or not.

No it's not like the "Keeping Vinyl Alive" thing, Lmao, the Underground Dance music scene has NEVER died, not once. Wether it's Dance music, Hip-Hop, or Rock, It's always been alive. It just evolves & the music changes. That's why it's called "Underground", lol, so ur regluar typical scenes & people are usually not aware of it. But as always, big stars will borrow from the underground sounds & make them popular. (Sometimes using underground producers, and making them become popular as well). Everyone who's big today started somewhere, right?

I know what you're talking about. That's the Gramaphone/ Hot Jams crowd. Hot Jams went under around 4 years ago right after some peeps (who were hype much like yourself, talking about how hot and happenin' the techno/house scene was bought the joint from Andre, proceeded to turn it into a gay hangout, and a year later the place was gone) TRUE STORY!!!

Chicago is very very very segregated like that.

And ever since, I've been wondering where this hot and happenin underground dance music scene was going on? And why did they destroy Hot Jams? I would think that this hot and happenin' underground dance music scene would support the local record stores. It's not like there's a whole lot of them.

And Gramaphone is not even a microcosm of what it once was. The actual store is bigger (space wise) but what happened to all the customers? And they got that Lincoln Pk crowd (Green Dolphin St. is very close, maybe even in that same neighborhood-I don't know the exact boundaries). It's that exact crowd that's in some of those videos you posted. Sure, they come out to the parties but it's like just background noise to them just like how the music at the main clubs is just background noise to the patrons. If peeps were really into the music, then they would support their underground dance music scene.

I realize that freestyle is the only kind of dance music that I'm into like that but the fact remains that freestyle is sold wherever underground dance music is sold and thus I got my stuff at all the underground dance music record stores and all of these genres are hurting (techno, acid house, trance, etc.). Of course, people like to get bent and party. That's why these parties keep happenin' but the music is dead.

BTW, I met Lil' Louis Vega at Gramaphone over a decade ago. It didn't seem like he wanted any part of freestyle (I went up to him and started talking freestyle with him and .....no). Why are some freestyle legends ashamed of freestyle (at least that's what it seems like)?

I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just stating the obvious.

Well the truth is, you already know I'm not from Chicago, I do have fam & friends there tho, ...but before talking to anyone, I jus decided to do a quick Google search to find something for u.

I don't know anything about those venues I mentioned, or where the real circuit parties are at, but I've heard about the Boom Boom Room/Green Dolphin St before & I know it's legendary, and know some of the hottest DJ's spin there, so I decided to send u the info of that upcoming party.
That's all.

I suggest come May, go & check it out yourself IN PERSON. And tell me how it was. It's Frankie Knuckles, so It's gonna be good. And if u do go, please go with an open mind, or open-minded friends who don't give a fu*ck what others around them are doing, wearing, or thinking, as usually anything goes at these events, and frankly nobody cares who u are, or what u look like, they pretty much welcome everyone.

If the underground scene was dead, then why would these events be packed with thousands of followers from all over the world? Why would they pay so much to come see 1 or 2 major DJ's perform?? (These events can sometimes cost between $20-$100+ a person) And sometimes there are over 50,000 peeps at one event. So yes, they're making money. Some of these underground hits get quickly sold out on & offline. So yes they're making their money. Just cause you havent heard the songs or been to the events, doesnt mean they ain't happening. As Latin Babe Boi stated: "News flash, it has evolved. You're either with it, or not."

As for "Hype", Lmao, I dunno what that term means to u, but I don't like it, lol. Sounds like some "poser" or something, lol. Which I am not. Been clubbing since 1990. The bottom line is the underground scene is not dead. It's still there. Maybe I got the wrong place in those video clips, (my bad if I did), but I'll keep looking. Or maybe it's just Chicago, but I do know they have some of the big events over there. I'm a true supporter of Dance/House music, and I can tell you in FL, CA, NY/NJ, Boston, Europe & South America it's a big deal in the underground.

It's one of the best online markets to get the latest (sometimes even before it's officially out). If I were to take u with me & my crew to these venues (straight or gay), you would see the crowd really into the music, and sometimes go nuts when a specific record is played, singing it word for word. (And these are non-commercial songs, that are huge hits underground. Like that Ralph Falcon "I Need Someone"). Some do make it to Billboard.
Check out Tony Moran Fea. Ultra Nate - "Destination". That's one of the hits right now on the scene.

As for Little Louie not wanting to talk Freestyle, well, as you stated, that was over a decade ago. He's already DJ'd some Freestyle events last couple years, & Tony Moran has performed at some. But yes, they prefer to keep up with their current works. They're not ashamed of it at all (at least not now). These guys know it's some of their best work, and it's where they started.

The same way we on here know our Freestyle, and the heavy-hitters like TKA, Lisa Lisa, Safire, Expose', "Love Letter', etc, & the underground like La'Girls, Pure Pleazure, Pain; those like myself who are a part of the current underground Dance scene also know the records that are hot (or not), what works in the current scene. (Anyone on this board who is a part of this knows what i'm talking about). They kno who Abel is, Rauhofer, Lehman, Calderone, Edson, Altar, Jeanie Tracy, Alan T, Vernessa Mitchell, Deb Cooper, Kim English, Kevin Aviance, Franklin Fuentes, etc, etc.

On another note, u prob just need to travel a bit. What's within our 10-20 mile radius isn't what's happening all over the world. (Or even in our entire states). Come to FL for a weekend, go to NYC, heck maybe even go to Europe when u get a chance. WMC in Miami is happening in March, & it's also Spring Break, so it's a PERFECT time 2 hit FL & check out the scene. I'm sure you'll have a blast bro.

One thing I can't help but notice is how every genre is drawing far better for its events than it is at selling physical product of its music nowadays. Some of these freestyle concerts be packed but where is the retail industry for the music? And that's how it is for every genre/scene nowadays.

A HUGE PORTION OF THE INDUSTRY IS GONE!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE? IT'S LIKE PEEPS IS LIKE ZOMBIES NOW. IT'S ALL ABOUT FACEBOOK AND HAVING BABIES THESE DAYS. WTF IS GOIN' ON?

YOU CAN'T COMPARE A PARTY OR EVENT TO ACTUAL PHYSICAL PRODUCT OF A MUSICAL RECORDING. THE INTERNET HAS SUCCEEDED IN TAKING AWAY THE "TANGIBILITY" OF MUSIC .
