Did anyone else pick up the "Hip Hop Fever" cd that came out with the "Fever Divas" cd last year? I just got it through Amazon a few days ago. It was okay. I love hip hop & freestyle and old school so with that combo I may have been expecting too much. Not too bad though, it didn't suck. It's got some good stand outs:
"Heartbeat Rap" Anything that samples "Heartbeat" is gonna be dope!
"Games People Play" which was and still is bangin'! With that infamous piano break that's been sampled by just about everybody.
"You've Gotta Believe" Lovebug "Starski": Classic!
"Calm Down" 3 Most Wanted: One of those good & hard to find hip hop tracks! Parts of "Funk Boutique" sound exactly like it but I dont recall any credits so not sure.
"All Night Long" Nayobe & Rayvon: IF NOTHING ELSE, IT'S WORTH IT FOR THIS ONE TRACK!!! Nayobe is one of freestyle's best and Rayvon is one of reggae's best so its just no way the combination could fail! Got a nice ghetto hip hop/reggae vibe! This is the Bobby Konders (dancehall d.j.) version and it sounds straight off his mixshows. Its that raw! straight up no polishing or glazing over. I counted like 5 samples that are all workin' at the same time! It's krazy!
"Sukiyaki" The Cover Girls: Another DOPE cover from them! They put a nice laid back dancehall spin on the record. I think it was originally done by Taste Of Honey but I think this is one of the case where new school defeats old school!
"I Am Woman" The Cover Girls w/Redman & Method Man: NICE! Sounds kinda like a "Goody Goody" immitation but it's all good. I like the Cover Girls a lot as well as Red & Meth but it wasn't really a collabo more like some sampled voice overs. Don't recognize the voice though. Doesn't sound like the Cover Girls but they're credited clear as day! Whoever it was singing LAID IT DOWN though!
This accompanied with the divas cd is definitely a good old school flashback! That was a good idea to release them together, though I didnt get them together😛
