Being an Independant Label myself, the major problem that most freestyle labels face is getting their product into stores so you the consumer can purchase and support.

So my question to you is this:

Where do you buy your Freestyle Cd's?

Do you go to Malls? Buy Online? Or visit yor local mom and pop stores?

Please be specific, since this info will help all freestyle labels that visit this thread. You can make a difference by helping us out.

THanks to all who post.🙂

Well, in general we would all try the music stores first and see where that takes us.

If not, then we would try special ordering it through the store or we'll just get it online.

I think it would be ideal if you would have them in stores instead of just having them exclusively online just because of the wait and its unpopularity.

Online's a bad idea to me and would be a last resort to anyone who cant find what they want unless it is a specialty thing where all the site would sell is just freestyle music from different artists not just one.

Ive seen many times where some promoter or manager would say that a certain cd would be available in almost every music store accross the nation and that it would be rare that we didnt have it on it s release date. We'll i've seen many times that they have been wrong!

Ideal Places to carry freestyle: Sam Goody, Musicland, FYE (since its CEO is pretty open minded and has a quite array of dance stuff), Best Buy The Wiz (since these places are pretty cheap when it comes to music and the people will go there because of it)

I understand you guys have trouble in promoting freestyle to places where it is not really listened to. We'll these are the major places you guys should be working on we shouldnt just hit the common places. We want to make waves remember?

what new freestyle ?

there's only a handful of new freestyle that is new, isn't there?

I always check my local stores but they rarely have anything. I'd rather buy the CD at a store in my area than online even if its cheaper to do so online. I'd hope that if they see that the cd's are selling they'll keep getting them in. I always go to Sam Goody, Camalot, Best Buy... usually nothing (well thats not true they always seem to have Rockell's CD's). That said, 95% of the cd's I buy I get from Amazon.com. Tower records screwed me big time in the past so I don't go there anymore (twice they sent me empty jewel cases - no CD at all. TWICE!)

be specific

I agree with your opinions but what I'm after is specific stores and names so that myself and other labels can call the owners and request that they carry our CD's on consignment.

Here's one in buffalo
Ritmo Calilente
716-883-7959
Ask for Maria

Thier the best store in town to satisfy your freestyle needs. They deal strictly with distributors but will order cd's if they know it's freestyle and will tell you what distributors they work with.

This info will help labels expand their distribution.

There are 2 places in Sacramento, CA that carry a lot of dance music. It's called Imagine Music
2 locations:

2580 Fair Oaks Blvd. #12
&
2612 J Street

The phone numbers are:
(916)971-1188
(916)930-0388

Email is: imagine1@primentet.com

Also Delicious D told me that some guy at Florin Mall on Florin Road in Sacramento was very freestyle friendly. I think it was even like a Sam Goody or Camelot of something like that. The mall's website is: http://www.florinmall.com/
Also I've found a good amount of freestyle at FYE at Arden Mall in Sacramento.
Anyway, you asked about where you shop, I never do online, here in Sac I go to the Camelot's, Sam Goody, Tower Records, Best Buy, I even once found a freestyle compilation at our groceries supermarket Raley's. Sometimes you find it in funny places.

I used to find a lot of freestyle in the Bay Area at Rasputins. There is one in Berkeley , CA and some other Bay Area locations. Maybe try their website http://www.rasputinmusic.com
I also noticed that some many of the stores in the malls in the Bay Area have a lot more freestyle than in other places of the country. I can't give any specific addresses but you should also really hit San Jose.

Also you might want to get ahold of Delicious D or James Mak, they know a lot about record stores.

I always see a Freestyle section over at Sam Goody or Warehouse Music. Sometimes I purchase burned freestyle CD's from the Flea Market if I can't find it at SM or online.

I usually go to Amazon.com or Tower Records. I don't bother going to the stores personally they have regular freestyle that everyone has they don't really have anything new....just the same old volumes....

Chula

BTW where can I purchase some of Freestyle Fresh Kidz CD's? Amazon says it's out of stock????

I much prefer online than outside cause I find what i want.

Any reputable online store does it for me.

Amazon, CDNow etc. Very good stores.

For OOP Freestyle, I got to Ebay and Half.com, which I have been 99.9% successful. 😀

Well since I've been living in the sticks for the past 4 years, (3 in Arkansas, 1 in Mississippi) I have had NO luck in finding any new Freestlye stuff. I have bought whatever little Freestlye music from online at CDNow. I have noticed that Amazon.com has quite a nice selection of CD's I want to get, but since I live where Freestly is pretty much non-exsistent, it's hard for me to get it at the stores, unless by a miracle.
