This is very interesting. I was looking at a Disco music site and the guy who started and owned Prelude Records, which was a Disco label and home to France Joli, Musique, Vicki Sue Robinson, D-Train, and Rose Royce, also started Mic Mac Records, when Disco was at its downfall. Check it out:

So, when you closed down Prelude - what did you do after. I know you later started a company called MicMac Records in the more freestyle area.
"Basically for a year or two I really didn't do anything. Haha. I sort of..."
Retired?
"Haha! Yes I guess - whatever you wanna call it! And then I attended a music conference in New York and I run into some producers and DJ's who I know from the Prelude days. They played me some music and I listened to it and said; "Oh, this might be interesting. Maybe we should try this." Hehe. I said to myself; "It might be fun to try to go back into the business again." And that's basically it. I got involved with it because I heard some music that I thought also was interesting dance music - but for, as you say, freestyle. And I started MicMac Records."
MicMac Records was the largest and leading label of Freestyle music in the late-80s to the early-90s and their most famous artists were Johnny-O and Cynthia.

Very, very, cool. And Cynthia did cover France Joli's "Gonna Get Over You", which was released on Prelude Records.

Stop Picking on Micmac Records without them there wouldnt be any freestyle today. They had the leading artists that was getting the most airplay on on radio stations around the world.

Agreed, but were you refering to my post. I wasn't picking on them at all. If you were at the Sunday chat, then it would make sence, but I a great deal of respect for the artists and staff on Mic Mac records. I think I have a whole Bin of 12" just by mic mac artists.

FEVER started more than just FREESTYLE>THEY ARE STILL GOING>I have been a big fan of Fever's product. They never disappoint you.
Their LOGO is KOOL too.

intersting.......i always thought mickey g. started it!!

Actually, many people have mentioned that the first true freestyle song was "Please Don't Go" by Nayobe. If that's true, then the first freestyle song was on Fever Records.

LOL@Carlito's Way!

I don't think we'll ever clear this up.

In regards to the first freestyle song, early songs like "One More Shot", "Let The Music Play", "Honey To A Bee", "Remember What You Like", & "I Wonder If I Take You Home" are often called freestyle by some fans. Other fans call them "Electro Funk", and these songs are always debated about whether or not they are freestyle. In my opinion, I call them freestyle.

However, all people agree that "Please Don't Go" by Nayobe is freestyle, and one of the earliest freestyle songs.

Chuck D- I agree, I call them all Freestyle as well. But I see where you're coming from regarding Nayobe's "Please Don't Go". That's definitely one of my favorites from back in the day. So are Tina B & Brenda K Starr the first Freestyle artists' to be in a motion picture (Beat Street)? Yeah, right?

MIC MAC RETURNS.....

AHI OK ALL THIS TALK ABOUT MIC MAC AND SO HAVE YOU'S WHY DWELL ON THE PAST? OK WE'VE HAD GREAT FREESTYLE FROM ALL OVER SO WHO CARES ABOUT WHO WAS FIRST OR NOT. THEY ALL PUT OUT GREAT MUSIC THAT WE STILL PLAY TODAY. SO I GIVE PROPS TO ALL THE LABLES. AS FOR MICKEY WHATEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST TO MIC MAC IS IN THE PAST, HE'S BACK NOW WITH A NEW MIC MAC AND IT'S GOING TO BE BETTER THEN EVER CAUSE HE HAS NEW AND BETTER TALENT THEN BEFORE AND HE HAS LEARNED ALSO FROM PAST MISTAKES NOT TO GO AND MAKE THEM AGAIN. SO YALL NEED TO GET READY FOR THE NEW SCHOOL FREESTYLE COMMING TO YOUR AREA SOON....😉
