This is a reply to jack g regarding his question on the now closed post "OCTOBER-National Freestyle apreciation month" posted by JONPITO.
The question asked was "where have all the miami freestyle labels been, while new york has busted thier ass keeping it alive.Now the miami society of freestyle and freestyle related companies come and have authority?."
Miami labels and afiliated companies have always been around, ever so much more in numbers after the Breaks movment began and prevails since the early 90's.
Miami's scene is mostly made up now of young indipendent production companies and labels that have been pushing and GETTING RADIO EXPOSURE at a INTERNATIOPNAL level. ON top of that exposing the masses in the underground club world to the new sound of FReestyle.
(if the freestyle community is anaware of who exactly is who, it is the "Freestyle's" media's foult for not covering and overlooking the miami,orlando,tampa, southwest, california,spain and british regions).
The miami community has also been known to have and built stronger ties between the Breaks regions, electro clash regions and the strong gay underground region, apose to the new york scene who has not or been very few to accept the changes going on in the Freestyle community.
Members of the Miami communty are and have been hard at work for the past years producing and getting product signed or liscenced to key player labels such as Ultra, pandisc/Street beat, Jellybean recordings,nebulous, moonshine, and various other labels that have a stronger impact in todays dance world and are respected. Add to that the fact that these labels were ground breakers in exposing the new breaks/freestyle/electro clash sound to the world and now are even more interested to continue to do so.
Most of the labels that are seen as "traditional" freestyle community memebers have not had that impact or do not have that respect in todays dance comunity(excluding Robbins entertainment,who has always suported freestyle and breaks and pushed it to the cutting edge as well).
The freestyle community expects OLD dinosour labels like Ten lion, angel eyes, hot productions etc to spit out ordinary traditional records, but in fact those days and labels are all no more.
Hot productions has evolved into another company, ten lion and other labels went out of Business. The Torch was put in the hands of players who understand and are open to the changes hapening in the undergound and comercial dance world.The next miami wave.
some names have changed, the sound has changed, but its a new community who has been carying the freestyle torch and lighten up the way in realms and pockets where the "traditional" old freestyle community couldnt compete.
Detour records is now the Detour records and Film. For the past years it has evolved and become a video production company.
Miami's Detour was equiped with the gear and talent and combined it with orlandos hidden image (also known for the freestyle net show "inside outside") to produce a video for Rockell's tears and is now currently working on videos for Tito puente JR, D'luna(china doll), and other clients that will come out of the region.
In the coming months, it will expand and begin production and cultivate recording artist from miami.
eqs' next step.....also known for its previous name Pantera.....(the company that lounched the early 84 group X-posed, AKA EXPOSE and many Freestyle legends)(actually also housed right touch-joe granda's co. for a while- bk4 Nice n wild) is now going through changes again as OLE enetertainment is being Formed (Oscar Llord entertainment). The memebrs of this party have and are afiliated with freestyle/ breaks groups and will continue to do so . Much of this is on the down low.
Destune, tendetsune,freestylemusic.com..is also now expanding and will open up the production company again and focus on releasing new groups. Inthe past years it has been souping up its recources to compete againts todays market. In the meanwile its Djs have been keeping the freestyle sound bumping in undergound raves and warhouse parties.
Artist such as Fiori(samantha), Plumet, Robyn fox, have been having thier mark in both the freestyle/breaks, club and radio world.....as others such as D'luna (also known as china dolls) has not only have her exposure in the undergound mass club circuit and radio, but the ONLY ONE FROM HIELEAH WHO FLOUNTS HER FREESTYLE AND DOMINICAN BACKGROUNDS PROUDLY.
d'luna is back in the studio recording her album and has the contributions from many Freestyle pioneers such as martinee, al perez of erotic exotic, and others who wish not to be anounced yet. She also has in her line up material with Guissepe D, who with tony moran also produced "tears" for rockell on robbins.
street beat and a flood of new labels have in line to release a bunch of new freestyle/breaks records. many who have been in the front lines at radio, club and undergound circuit levels and exposing the freestyle sound and 80's revival. The "freestyle" community of the north has shut the door on many of these companies or artist or overlooked them. they are Just as FReestyle, as any other.
Now that a new Community is forming and building a new aliance and changing the face of the market......now is when people will begin to fear.
As for myself,
I have pushed for years and become a delagate for miami freestyle for years now. I am one of few who are outspoken and visible to push and open arms to all that are Freestyle in all its forms.I wave worked with so many pioneering artist and new artist, advised them, road managed them, so many things..................i dont know where to start. I been the main one in miami to throw freestyle parties in such a way to cater to a younger crowd...few and far between, but i have.that will change soon. Also im the one throwing my yearly tai shan ball party during WMC week when others dont throw anything at all, at the same time open to make my party welcoming the gay, latin, black and EUropean comunities that are in town that week and exposing those important markets to the new and classic Freestyle sound.(unlike other parties that cater to cocky new yorkers and play nothing but records from the late 80's and prodominantly early 90's).
Im in school, I, like many others am also a song writer, a voting naras member, and get involved alot in the politics of the MAIN music industry, not amatueristic comon freestyle politics.(debating excluded).
Im in a front line 25 steps ahead of many who read and post in this site. Im either now days in the studio, on tour, on the raod but keeping busy and the main goal is all to see one day Freestyle rise again ina new form and in a new Industry.
I sacraficed time and money over the past years for this......and although many dont see me as i am behind the scenes....soon they will see not only what i been doing, but whet Everybody who has not gotten credits has been doing.AND THAT IS ALOT OF PEOPLE.(it would take me a while to list down who is who and who did what.But people will soon see.).
all i have to say i have a heavy plate coming up.
And it is many of us, people who are involved in MAKING records and have a ROLE in the RECORDING industry..........But i am the only one reaching out to the freestyle comunity, while others plane to step right over it.But it is the community of people making records in miami and have been inthe industry for years that have decided this month of october to be freestyle month.They have more Authority than fan clubs or organizations that just report.They are a pool of Pioneers and future ground breakers.
many also believe its time to stop the ass kissing to the fans, and take the artistic freedom,creativity and professionalism and infuse that energy into new productions without fear of a witchhunt.
If the old fans dont like it, there will be NEW ones who will invest emotionaly and financially to the new wave of Industry and mentality soon to come.
By mid month, ceartain labels and key players will be informed by press release about the freestylemonth of October, especially those who also play a role in making records and actually getting them on the club or radio market at a larger scale.
Standards will be raised.Something this freestyle comunity hasnt had in a while.
