😀 Last night I had the chance to see TONASIA, FASCINATION, and GIGGLES perform live at BoacJoes in my town!!
"TONASIA" came onstage at about 12:40 am in ALL black. He had on a black cowboy type hat, a black shiny jacket (pleather?), black tight leather type pants, and black boots. He had 2 talented drummers backing him up (kinda like bongo drums I think). The 1st song he sang was "Games Of Love", the 2nd song was"Tears Of Tears", the 3rd song was a Spanish song, (does "Mirame" sound right?), and the 4th song was one of my faves "Wondering"(Wondering if this love we had was true, and I'm wondering was it me or you, is that right or do I need corrections lol). He said that "Wondering was released in 1987.
Next up was "FASCINATION" (wow, what beautiful blonde hair), and she was dressed in all black too, a tank type dress/shirt that was kinda long on one side and short on the other (hard to explain), and she had on these cool black stretch pants, that had tiny black straps above the waistband. She has an AWESOME stage presence! Definately a freestyle DIVA! She has the toned build of a professional dancer, and during her show she does high kicks and moves that you wouldn't believe! She had a choreographer/World Class Dance Champion onstage with her, RICKY QUINTANA. They would be great in a salsa/dance competition! He was dancing with her during her songs, damn, he even put her over his head and twirled her around! So that was way cool!
Her 1st song was the highly recognized freestyle hit, "Why Ya Wanna Go", and the next song she performed was, "Don't You Think It's Time" (it goes, come to me....etc, if I need to correct the title let me know lol). She talked to the audience and let us know that she drove 2 and a half hours to see us (and in the pouring rain no less)! The crowd at the club was smaller than usual (the weather was not cooperating), but they made up for it in enthusiasm and by singing along to the songs! I think they (the crowd) knew more of the words than I did!
The last artist to hit the stage was "GIGGLES" accompanied by a male singer, and we didn't know at the time that he was none other than "Charlie Rock"! He didn't sing his hit song "Missing You", but he did contribute vocals to her show. The 1st song was "Love Letter", and the 2nd was "What Goes Around Comes Around" (how old was she when that song came out? I heard about 14?). My Cutting Records Maxi-single of that song lists the date as 1991, and Charlie "ROCK" (how'd he get that nickname?) Jimenez as the Producer. On the cassette, under the song title is his name again, did he write the song too?
After the show, around 1:30 am, we went back to the FlashBacks side for autographs (only some of TONASIA'S were tossed out by him to the crowd). We got Tonasia to sign his pic (thanks again!) and we chatted with him for awhile. He was a real nice guy! Then I talked my way into the VIP curtained off area lol (I had to get past security), and I introduced myself to FASCINATION, her dancer/choreographer RICKY QUINTANA, GIGGLES, & CHARLIE ROCK (thats when we found out WHO he was). When we spoke to CHARLIE ROCK he mentioned some of the things he's done, and when he said "DreamBoy/DreamGirl, I looked when I got home and sure enough his name is in the credits for writing it. C.Jimenez. WOW!!
I mentioned Clubfreestyle and who I am on the board. I didn't have any CF business cards 🙂:hint::hint:: JackG) though so I had to write down the website for them. Wouldn't that be cool if they joined CF?? I was able to take some pics onstage and offstage, but after the show I didn't get a pic of TONASIA and he looked really cute in his casual attire (nice turtleneck). I can only hope that someday I get another opportunity! Then the lights went out and off to the limo they went to go home!
Thanks again to all the artists for making the trip to Boca's. And to the Boca crew (Tony, DJButtaballEd, the other DJ's, security, etc) for giving us a place to enjoy & listen to FREESTYLE!
And last but not least to Latif of Metropolitan/Stylin Free for sending us the artists, and for doing alot of work behind the scenes too.
Love & Peace,
FreestyleMom🙂
