Are some of the classic artist who have had hit songs played on radio across the country receiving some sort of residuals when their songs are played?? how about the ones who took part in producing, writing,etc....

i know every artist had a diffrent record deal and so it may vary from artist to artist - but does anyone have an idea

perhaps nyasia can answer this?? just curious

was wondering the same about the various compilation cd's as well and does the artist have any control of who can use there songs

true - songs by judy, safire, cynthia, tka, george, etc...are used in so, so many compilations - i think it would only be fair if they received a share of the pie -

does it work like tv - tv stars (depending on their contracts) receive residuals everytime their show repeats in syndication - for years to come

THE OWNER OF THE RIGHTS MAKES THE MONEY, I KNOW THIS BECAUSE MY FRIEND OWNS ALL THE OLD FASCINATION MATERAIL..

i believe i read on a online website that SAFIRE owns all the rights to her music - i'm not sure if that means her old music or the newer versions from her "bringing back the groove" cd or maybe even both!

but if that's the case - BRAVO FOR HER! i hope some of the other artist were wise enough to do the same

In most cases, most of the artists received little money for recording their songs and receive nothing for them now...Judy told me one day when I asked her that she didn't make one cent off recording ANY of her singles until she recorded an album. The same is true for most freestyle artists. Why do you think they did 10 shows a weekend back in the day, performing like crazy, because that was the only venue to make money off their songs. Ask any of the artists, they'll tell you.

james - i find that very hard to believe ! no money off of singles? perhaps she had a weak contract that really screwed her over.

i do believe that more money is made off of an entire album selling, but im sure something is made off of a singles sale.
