Park Ave was jammed every friday but it closed down for a few months. After renovations, the old crowd didn't like the new look and left. Music wasn't a factor they just felt uncomfortable in the new surroundings. The 2 months that it was closed and the people moved to different places. Shine had a couple of good nights and not even Nice and Wild could draw more than 200 people. We're still throwing down freestyle sets at berlin and BarOne but it's true there isn't an all-freestyle not and after trying at 4 different places this past year including Eruption, Paparazzi, Ra and Shine i'm beginning to wonder where all the so-called "freestyle freaks" are?

Listen Tony!

We are not giving up on you and the love of the music. Most of us have lost hope in some of the clubs and the proprietors of these establishments. Your "IN" the business, you entertain people, that is your job and so be it "your pleasure". You cannot literally stand outside and drag the people in. It's just gotten to a point where there is no real established Freestyle Night as yet. Like you said it has gone from one establishment to another. People like consistency, almost a "guarantee" if you will that when Friday OR Saturday night rolls around, we know for certain that Freestyle will be heard blaring from the front doors of the club. Summertime is coming, people will be out more, hopefully coming to the establishments that you will be playin.

Just give it time (crossin the fingers doesn't hurt either😉 ) and the "FREAKS" will be breakin the doors down to come party with the "Monaco Man"

Tony you gotta have an all freestyle nite, forget about the euro, house and r&b, just play 5 hours of freestyle, and see how the turn out will be, who knows it may turn out for the best,
i'm a huge freestyle fan, but i won't go to plastique, cause i hear more euro than freestyle being played, and it's supposed to be called freestyle Fridays... lol

plastique...

😉 actually freestyle at plastique isn't that bad, considering that most clubs will only play about 5-10 min of it for the rest of the night!freestyle at plastique 5-10 :crap

that colour

oh my god...i can't even read what i wrote....that's one bright colour! 😡

well, what i wanted to say is: freestyle at plastique isn't that bad, since other clubs only play freestyle for about 5-10 min!:blah

Please for the love of God, stop playin the Bon Jovi master-mix, (fine albeit ,Bon Jovi has got some great tunes) but were wondering WHY not more airplay of Freestyle?

Sorry Z103 guys, but you guys are professionals, you know what your doin BUT please stop playin the same repetitive songs over & over & over & over again! Every Thursday, whether I go to Berlin or I turn on my radio I can always predict what the next song you & Danny D are gonna play!

Heres an idea: Why not play some more freestyle, put Bon Jovi on ice at least for one night and see what happens. If Danny D can come up with some kick-ass mixes for the Friday 5 o'clock mix show, why can't he come up with some in the club????? Is it live or is it Memorex?

Yes I know you guys are "Live-to-air" and play from a playlist, but sometimes you gotta at least cater to the older crowd who happen to come to the club and want to hear some great tunes. Remember, the teeny-boppers of way-back grow up too.

I'm not tellin you guys how to do "your job", but go see what there spinning in other parts of the city, i.e Indian Motorcycle,Phoenix, and a few of the 'most-frequented' bars/lounges in the downtown district, you'll see they play a wide variety of music spanning from the 70's to modern 2002 stuff. Trust me the crowd is certainly mixed from old to young.

I've been around the clubs, I know some of the personalities that spin in these places, the crowd gets tired of the "same-old, same-old" week in and week out. So for the sake of the listenership of Z103.5, I hope you guys do something about it.:whateva

sorry because this thread went off in a tangent i started a new thread)okay i don't know how to use a computer is the fact of the matter)answer provided in freestyle/bon jovi thread

freestyle vs bon jovi...

c, u don't get it!

the radio can't play freestyle as much as we want it to because the sound itself isn't (really) considered mainstream! Do you ever see a freestyle video being played on muchmusic????? NO!!!! Why - well, most of the people that tune into much aren't freestyle fans!

Most clubbers in Toronto would rather listen to hip hop/rb than freestyle...u can't force someone to like freestyle especially when they don't know what the music really is all about!

The more airplay the artists get from video, singles, albums releases - and especially the more articles written about them or the music itself, the more popular they get! It's not just Z103.5...its the general public and their service towards the Toronto Entertainment district.

Look, I feel what ur saying, but u just have the see the big picture. It's not as easy as it seems.

vixen, and Tony well put. It's really tough to play something that only a small percentage including myself lisen to, i try to get freestyle played anywhere i go but it's a fact that alot of clubs/dj's don't even carry a freestyle cd/record with them. Thats why we should stop complaning why there isn't more freestyle and request it more, ask for it, play it every chance to people can hear some really sick songs and then they will ask for them.

I'm with Spyboy on the matter, I understand it's all a business, but you know what, the radio just blows for the most part! I stick to mp3s as my main source of music cause radio plays crap. Only time I listen to the radio is when I'm in the car or Sundays for the Frenzy, otherwise it's off! I remember when I was a little fart and loved dance music, when the radio had 3, yes 3, good dance stations, too bad I was young and naive and new nothing about supporting the music... now that I know what's going on, I can't do squat really. I hate clubs because for the most part, they music played there blows chunks! Oh well, that's the business world I guess. :silly

people only listen to what they are provided. that is my opinion.
If radio stations started promoting more freestyle and it's then in the listeners FACE all the time....what will people do? Turn off the radio? I don't think so. they will be convinced that this is the new sound of radio. It has to be brought back somehow? You won't know unless you TRY. I mean...there WAS a time where DaNCE and Freestyle ruled the radio waves and that was not too long ago. I am not saying to cut out hip hop...obviously you must cater to everyones needs...It just sucks because I love dance and euro and freestyle and I wish there was something that we could all do to bring it back. maybe as thereo said..start requesting for more freestyle then it might make a difference!

Monaco you must do something man! Thank god for your radio show!!!

i am tired of typing!!!:stoned

not just the radio...

freestyler...u have a point.

but you have to consider this too:

1. an artist/group can only get so much exposure by a radio station.

2. since freestyle isn't so popular among the general population...why not encourage the artist/groups to have MTV play their videos.

3. just the way you see a Brandy poster all over the city (with her new album) why not a Lil Suzy poster.

Its not just up to the radio stations to give freestyle exposure to the listeners...there are many others who should have the same task.
People such as promoters (not just the people you see on Richmond St. handing out flyers...), but bigger graphic design companies.

Yes all of this is pricy...but if you want to see freestyle in the mainstream...it ain't gonna happen just by playing songs on the radio; especially if most freestyle artists aren't coming out with new material!
😡

new material...

speaking of new material...u guys know that most of the time when a freestyle artist releases a single/album in the US or Europe...it takes forever to get to Canada.

Why not encourage Canadian Freestyle Artists to have Album Release parties on EC (even though that show sucks - in my opinion!) since a lot of people all around the world tune in, so that way the artists get more exposure.

I remember a looooong time ago when Alexia Phillips was on...she was pretty much the most popular artists in euro/freestyle after that.

It's hard enough to get radio to play freestyle outside of a mix-show or live to air but virtually impossible to get muchmusic to even look at a freestyle or dance act unless they are on a major label. Groups like Sylver and Becca and Gigi got tons of radio airplay but muchmusic would never play the videos. There is a channel called BPM in canada which is all dance but mostly house and hardly anyone subscribes to it or is even aware of it on digital cable. TLN shows some decent vidoes but the show is so poorly put together. Dance music has and will always be without a face. In america dance music is PINK, BRITNEY, and JANET on the remix tip. Thank goodness some all dance formats have showed up in key markets including Miami and perhaps this will help to expose dance on a larger scale. it won't happen overnight but don't give up just yet.

I know... what's up with that? I mean when much music advertises some CD having dance material on it, they actually show a piece of a video.. how come they don't dedicate at least an hour air time showing dance/euro/freestyle videos?
and damn, i didn't know there was such channel as BPM. 😕

there ya go Vixen 😛

hmm...

i gotta check that out...most of the time my ass is at home with nothing to do, and the TV has nothing good on most of the time (or the time that i'm at home...)

satelite...

well even if the BPM channel doesn't work out, @ least i have back up. Direct TV Satelite...even though my Dance & Chanel X play no videos; its just sound and a blank screen (grrrr...!), @ least they play sum freaked out tunes! 😛
