Here are a couple of random things that I have been thinking about. Things to do & things to consider.

1) How many people do you think will attend?
2) Find a Hotel that has conference rooms that will accomodate that many people.
3) Start small and grow your idea. I don't think that 1,000 people will show up for this but maybe you could start out with 200 as your goal.
4) Remember all of the costs involved in this. Advertising it, badges, security (at the doors to check badges), insurance, sound systems, etc. It gets expensive.
5) Maybe start off as a one day event. And next year grow it to 2 or more.
6) See if you can get a club to donate the space in exchange for any bar money they can generate. Ask for an off weekday (Mon- Wed)so that it's just extra money for them.
7) You can see if some artists will drop by to do a signing session for free. This could help you attract more attendees that aren't "industry" types.
8) Panels suck. It's much better to have a room discussion on things. This is just my opinion. 🙂
9) See if people that are versed in these gatherings can help. Maybe Sal A or Vito Bruno would have some ideas.
10) It has to be in NYC.

Again this are just my thinking out loud, I'd be glad to help out anyway I could.
