I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread on organizing a freestyle conference where those individuals in the freestyle genre could get together and network.

We could have panels and discuss different aspects of freestyle music and where it is going or should be going.

WE could trade info on retail stores, radio shows, clubs and email addresses of freestyle buyers and supporters.

We could answer question for new comers interested in getting into the biz such as singers, producers, dj's, writers, or just fans.

We could hold a dinner and give out awards for best song, new artist, album of the year voted on by the fans and industry people.

WE could invite new artist to showcase for label executives looking to sign new talent.

And end the conference with a big party and have old and new artist perform on stage.

We could start with where we should hold it....New york seems like the best place to hold the first one? what do you think?

Good Idea

whats up,thats a real good idea, lets pray that it will happen, cause
the freestyle world needs it.

You have my support for this idea. Personally, I will make the effort to come from France to NY City for this "special event".

Now, we have to wait and see if the pros of the whole Freestyle nation will follow you in this exciting adventure. 🙂

This is a GREAT idea....
I am sure you will have plenty of volunteers here at CF to help.
now we need to see if the star power is there.

the voting itself could be done right here at CF..as far as awards go.
it's going to take some planning.

may I also suggest inviting radio personalities...from areas radio....as quests...to see & hear what WE already know.

perhaps it may just spark some interest again.
This could be HUGE if handled properly..

Santana, good idea but that was already done. One year after coming back from the Winter Music Conference in Miami; Michael Schweiger who was an independent promoter and had his own artist representation company had everyone gather at a club in Queens which was the old Silver Screen night club. We were all there talking about how and what we need to do to put freestyle back on the dance map and get radio to play our shit on a regular basis. Everyone decided that we had to bring freestyle to a new level and be more creative. Carlos Berrios was the one who changed freestyle by coming out with a new school sound. But the problem was other producers were copying his shit and laying poor and weak vocals over their tracks. This really hurt the freestyle industry as a whole and we really never recovered from that.

I think meeting at the Conference in Miami will get the biggest turn out ...

its been done before, so i dont see why it cant be done again

Everyone please don't count on using the Winter Music Conference as a resource for freestyle. The conference has totally changed as a whole and freestyle isn't on the menu anymore. We must get together ourselves and put it back on the dance map. If we are going to do anything; we need to do it right here in New York, where we can gather up all the pioneers and get down to business. Holllaaaa !!

I've been to the winter music conference a few times and when I mentioned the world Freestyle, I didn't like the looks I was getting from people. I even got a "Shhhhhh......don't say that word to loud, I don't want anyone knowing I did that type of music in the past" this coming from a producer whose work I admired and I was trying to compliment him. That goes to show you how bad the genre freestyle has fallen.

This is why I believe we shouldn't depend on the WMC to do anything for us. We as a community should work on our own conference and offer a little something for everyone. The singers, producers, labels, dj's, magazine writers and especially the fans.

Think about it:

If you live out west or in Texas or anywhere around the world and don't get to hear the artist who sing the songs you like in a live concert, this could be the one opportunity to at least see them once a year.

Labels could get feedback from industry peeps and fans on a new artist their working with.

Disc jockeys could get promo copies of any new material the labels are putting out.

Artist could meet new producers that they would like to work with.

Labels could meet new artist looking to get signed.

Writers could submit new songs to artist looking for new material.

Magazine writers could interview several artist in a span of the weekend giving them enough material for a whole years worth of writing.

And the possibilities go on and on.

What do we have to lose...........it's worth a try.

Exactly,

We need a Freestyle WMC...it's as simple as that!

Don't count on the WMC, this meeting now is dedicated to the big DJ's, labels, remixers, producers, etc. and the most famous styles of music as House, Garage, Euro Dance, Hi NRG, Trance, Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, etc, etc, etc.

And I think NY City is the perfect place. Many Freestyle labels & pros are located in the New York state (moslty in NY City) or in New Jersey. And as I said it will be an opportunity to convice a few European Freestyle labels & producers & artists to come to NY City.

So, I'm voting ofr NY City.😉

IM DOWN WITH SANTANA!!!LETS HAVE ONE HERE IN NY AND KEEP IT MAINLY FREESTYLE. NO OFFENSE TO OTHER GENRES CUZ I LOVE IT ALL, BUT FREESTYLE NEEDS AS MUCH ATTENTION AS IT CAN GET!!!LETS DO IT HERE AND KEEP FREESTYLE ALIVE!!!!!

I AGREE ALSO WHA EVER THAT CANT HELP FREESTYLE SHOULD BE DONE!! OTHER GENERES SHOULDNT TAKE OFFENSE CUZ THEY DOIN GOOD!! FREESTYLE JUST NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION.. GREAT IDEA LETS PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND GET THIS CONFERENE STARTED!!

I think having it in New York around June would be a good time to have the conference.

We can gather a list of industry people in every feild and have them provide a list of topics they would like to see discussed at the conference.

Also, we could have the fans as well as the industry peeps vote on their choice for music awards.

We can get most of the details worked out online by emailing people and then those that truly want to help out can meet in person a few times before the conference to iron out the fine details.

I'm down to work on it, but I need others to help, since I am in the industry and wouldn't want my bias affecting the decisions of awards and conference.

All we need is about 4 or 5 peeoples so let me know. Email me.

i agree

If there's to be a freestyle music conference it should be held in NY. The winter music conference in miami is pretty much trance..trust me..i was there this year. A freestyle music conference would definitely rock...maybe mixing it together with some trance stars would bring out more people i think..such as paul oakenfold or dj tiesto, etc. I would definitely be there though.
