im realizing freestyle has no chance now lloll. the pieces that were there in the 80's there just not there back in the day. everybody was down then!

20 yrs later. people who follow freestyle. instead of finding some active way to support the artists.

are always arguing with each other. the people 30 to 40 who breathed actual life into freestyle back in the day.

theyre to old today to do anything about the music. they need an act of congress to leave their house.

the people 25 to 30. who would be the next in line and could prob help out freestyle the most. all they wanna do. Prob a by product of growing up in the anomosity and lthe sick society of the nineties.

all they wanna do is argue with everybody. if a dog logged on here theyd argue with him.

and all the poeple 20 to 24. they mean well.

but theyre lost. they had no idea of what went on in the 80's. they are 15 years away from what went on back in the day.

or have no idea of what theyre doing. other than good intentions.

forget it freestyle is doomed. only a matter of time. now.

if people dont stop arguing and comming here and waiste another year jerking around these posts.

it will be another year of nothing getting done.
 
While you make some valid points, I think your thoughts are somewhat misguided.

Lack of harmony in the on-line freestyle community is not what's keeping freestyle down. The bigger problem is lack of quality releases. The flood of poor productions in the 90s led to a loss of credibility which has made freestyle a laughingstock in the music world. Until that changes freestyle will continue to be irrelevant in the current music scene.

New freestyle doesn't get support from radio, or clubs.

Even at clubs that are hosting a freestyle night, the freestyle that is played is the classics, not the new stuff.

Ya know rbonuc, you talk a good game. How many new school shows have you been to?

I've been to Remy Lounge to see the new school shows there.

I went to Wild Palm where the new schoolers were on stage with the legends.

I went to Ayna's record release party.

I've gone to the shows at backdrafts when new schoolers performed.

At these events, there were other cfers there.

i know that this can only be fixxed if we go to small events. i talk yeah cuase im trying to inspire you guys who are the leaders. to lets do something?

there should be 20 or 30 of us going. im going tot ry to go tomm night. and thrusday.
 
look chuck this music is very important to me. and while i dont mind getting to know what makes you guys tick? its not what im reallyultimately what im here for. unless its getting to know you guys with the intention of brining back freestyle somewhow.

i come here and all that. but i always came here with the thought. that we at some point do something about our music.

that you jack g krystal would do something about trying get together more often to go to events.

and support our artists. on a small scale which is waht im interested about.

and what i found. is that everyone is stuck here on the web. nightly.

and i dont see how thats suppose to support our music. again do i care should i care no.

but this music is verrrrry important to me very !!! why would i come ehre and talk with people who really i dont see eye to eye with at all. why would i come here

becuase you guys are all thats left. you are the only army available. lllloll

so we have to try to use you guys. to bring this back

and we can do it. but it takes involvement.

im sorry what the hell kind of a thread is this. people come here to grab on to the last strands that freestyle has hanging for us - you don't need to state the obvious: we all know freestyle has no chance of FULL recovery and yet we must enjoy what there is left, cuz there still IS a little something left of freestyle today. why can't you? you say night after night we're all stuck here on the web, we're not supporting our artists .. hello, events don't happen every night for us to attend all the time. and some of us are hundreds of miles from the nearest freestyle event, do you expect people outside the NYC area to fly in every weekend to see someone perform in your neighbourhood? a loyal fan could buy out every single vinyl for sale and attend each concert and freestyle would still die. so stop stating the obvious, i know freestyle has no chance, but we are all trying to have a little fun here with whatever's left - after all it's just MUSIC you have a life don't you! (and dont say freestyle is your life)

i weent to the china club does that count? plus if you look in the photo section you will see that there where peeps from cf at the sand bar
 
If history has proven anything to us,is that it will repeat it's self in some way.

I always say when a genre of music/sound reaches it's ultimate pinnacle in the industry,it will fall from grace.

Example:

Hair bands were huge in the 80's, but it wasn't until Guns & Roses and Bon Jovi came along that the Rock scene was to change.

The music,the people and it's fashion had change coming since these two bands had taken Rock music to the highest level possible,in turn it made it very difficult for other bands to try to top what Bon Jovi & Guns & Roses had done,they raised the bar so high,that in essence,killed that style of music,which made bands look for a new sound,a new look.

Hair band out,say hello to Grunge music!

I believe this to be true with Freestyle, artist like Stevie B,Expose and TKA took it so far off the map,that change could not be avoided.

Will To Power also raised the bar when they covered "Freebird" which made them be more known as a Pop or even soft rock group,rather then a Freestyle act.

Freestyle seemed to have been making it's way back for a short time in the form of "Break Beat" when Planet Soul launched,if you notice,the lyrics,the foundation of the song and it's sound seemed very familiar but very few took notice the similarities of Break Beat and Freestyle.

Britney Spears = Debbie Gibson

It all comes back, with the same foundation but with a new sound.
 
The Freestyle of today isn't the same as it was in 1985, so it's a given that everything that you hear today (or that may be released) is not going to be liked by many. I don't like half the shit I hear, but that's me. Plus, I'm not going to sit on my ass and cry or criticize an artist to death. Labels have folded and are no longer in business. Artist's of the past have moved on and are doing bigger things now. Producers of the past have given up. That's just the way the cookie crumbles, man. We are living in different times now.

Can't we all just come to terms with that?

Times change. People age. Life goes on. It's really that not that serious.
 
I said it before, and I'll say it now.

people's priorities change.

You can bet that back in the day, people here were at the clubs all the time, checking out the performances, and supporting freestyle. They were younger, and had minimal amount of bills and responsibilities.

Today, these people are parents. They have bills regarding thier kids, home, property, car, and other things.

they don't have the spare money. When they do have it, it is spent on the kids or husband/wife. Not to go to a freestyle event.
 
Chuck,I must disagree to some extent with your comment, yes we have wives and children,but many upon many of us continue to go to events that are held in Miami that have to do with Freestyle and dance music.

Many as myself drag the old hags we call our wives to the events with us.

In fact I and many others (about 20) hang out every weekend at our homes (it alternates) while bar b quing and jamming to the oldies,we call ourselves The Casanova Klub,membership fee not required....lol

But yes,many have moved on with their lives,but they are still out there just waiting for something new to pop up!

You cannot have lived during the 80's and the freestyle movement without having a great appreciation for music,in general,whether new wave,pop or freestyle,it is an era that will live long witnin you that will never be forgotten.
 
Guru......I do the same thing. I'm not saying that people our age don't go to events anymore.

However, jamming to oldies in your backyard is not the same as going to clubs every weekend, sometimes twice a weekend.

I'm only saying that the available funds we used to have for clubbing and drinking, now goes to rent, mortgage, food, car payments and ins. and other things, plus kids.

That is why people don't go to the shows anymore. Other priorites have come up.
 
I'd have to say as a former booking agent and record promoter and watching the Dance scene transform it's self,that freestyle can make a come back,or atleast the artist of freestyle.

If you listen to the top hip hop artist of this era,what do you hear?

Outkast,Black Eyed Peas and Missy Elliot,all have gone back to the grass roots,the foundation of hip hop,utilizing hip hop's founding sounds and rythms of funk,soul,jazz and blues.

I say in order to make a new impact on freestyle music,we must go back to it's roots, as far back as to the disco era and the start of hip hop with the sounds of electro music that such acts like Africa Bam,Planet Patrol had that they once dominated the scene with.

Electro music has been accepted way before it was a trend or thought to be cool,Kraftwerk proved that during the 70's and made way for others to follow in their footsteps.

I feel in order to make another run at a freestyle movement accepted once again by the public and radio,one can turn to electronic music,as electro music in today's market is highly regarded and accepted.

Perhaps a re-make of a lost classic can provide a stepping stone to a new freestyle era?

Take George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" disco hit, great song that only really made an impact in the clubs and not radio.

I wouldnt mind hearing George Lamonds cover this track while beefed and speeded up with sounds of electro,but keeping with the rythm that made freestyle so popular.
 
Chuck... you make valid points in your statement, however that does not apply to everyone my age,many of us are very successful and can afford to go out every day of the week,but again,there is only so many that can do such a thing.

Now,the one problem I see with events here in the Miami area,is not the clubs,it's not the concerts or who is performing,it is the lack of understanding on how to properly promote such events to the folks of our time.

Many who use radio as a form of advertising make a huge mistake at times thinking that one particular station in Miami is the one the old skool folks are listening to.

I have heard spots on Power 96 which is a waste of money to me,my generation does not listen to Power on a constant basis as it is mainly an all hip hop station.

Others seem to think a new station that plays some of the oldies during a mix hour is the way to go,and perhaps to a certain extent, it is the way to go,but if you want to capture my generation who are now tied down to a once hot chick who has become a screaming headache of a cow for a wife,try advertising on easy listening stations that offer classis tunes during the weekends,like the Coast 97.3, tons of classic Dance,Pop & New Wave 80's hits are heard on that station,not really freestyle tunes,but 80's music that everyone could relate to.

I don't think that a remake is the way to go.

Not long ago, KTU passed on Dana Rayne's freestyle version of "Object Of My Desire".

Even if it's done really well, it's still a remake.

Maybe it's just me, but the "stigma" of freestley may wear down. Think about it.

Recently Gwen Stefani said she wanted her solo album to sound "very Debbie Deb, very Lisa Lisa".

On top of that, look at samples recently. Nina Skye's song "Move your Body" had the lines from "Can You Feel The Beat". Black Eyed Peas have lines from "I Wonder If I Take You Home"....Ciara's "1, 2 Step" had freestyle elements to it. Aubrey's recent hit on ktu "If You Don't Know Me By Now" had freestyle elements to it.

History does repeat, perhaps it's time for freestyle to come back.
 
I can live with not having a re-make being the new beginning,was just a suggestion.

But I certainly feel freestyle has to travel back in time to find it's self all over again,mixed in with today's style of dance and perhaps something may come out of it?
 
loook that arguements that we got bills kids hubbies wives. that is just generation x's master cop out for anything that involves getting together. in community events.

in the old days. our grandparents use to belong to at least 4 clubs.

bridge club

elks

bowling

and what ever else.

there are people who are 40 yr emembrs of the elks club.

but if you ask them theyll tell you. one that they commited time to extra curricular activities. meaning activities. which is not your freeking family wife kid hubby etc,.

next thing in those days those people didnt belive in locking ourselves in our houses. and sitting down here for 6 hours a night. on the web.

they did something called they went out and about to meet people with like interests.

you need particpation.

and dont tell me that today things are more complicated. cuase if there so complicated and everybody has no time. how come every body here drops like 40 hours a week on the web.

in fact everybody here with 2 kids. the golden reason for never leaving your house.

drops at least 40 plus hour a week in here so come on ??? lllolll

is that you guys have this fortress mentaility where you think your house is fort knox.

and thats where you belong.


no you have to get out and about.

and when it comes to freestyle. if you care about the music. you have to get together. with people ehre and go to events.


tonight im going to that joint in broooklyn.
