The span of my career has been over 8 years, so the fact that i've done 4-5 covers is nothing, I just find it funny that people remember the covers but don't remember my original work that have won me awards, like "The Light", "If I Could Fly", "Show Me How You Love Me", "Back To Me" and so on, and also, the songs that you all listen to from other artists like, Tamara, Freda and CJ.

You need to understand that I have management and a record label that also has input in my career, I do what I'm asked to do, with limits. And after all this time, i'm still standing and I trust Ti Amo Records judgement.

If a major record company like Sony or Universal approaches me with covers like "Right Here Waiting" and tells me that it's going to be released in Europe and in the U.S.A., I think it would be ignorant of myself and my label to turn it down because it's a cover. To me, it's an opportunity to build on my future.


My Manager asked me to post this: 5 out of 21 songs are covers, not including the work i've done for other artists and they were all written and co-produced by myself, keeping in mind that Bailando and Mamboleo were not translated, I wrote the lyrics from their melody from scratch, that is my creative work.

well i think that 'the light' is ur best song and i have said that before and like i said a couple of covers is cool but there are artists that all or almost all their songs are covers u are not one of them u just have a few covers under ur belt...also thats something i dont need to be reminded of that u wrote a lot of songs i consider to be favorites and u write and help out artists that i consider faves so yeah i basically knew all that but thats for the reminder

Elissa no one is doubting ur abilities. What we do say is that right now freestyle is HOT with Joee and Audrey... and now that planet freestyle is about to come out with a CD... people expect u to shine through... and that means do something GREAT.. a cover is just not great, u know what i mean?

I want u to be on tops with Joee ... but with a cover, thta's gonna be hard to do... take this criticism from a freestyle lover... u do ur thing, but u can't expect to get all the positive comments on THIS track just because u did some great hits prior...

in my opinion a cover is good if u are starting out cuz it will help u get recognized but once ur established covers just dont cut it anymore but once ur a super star (think celine dions latest) then its all good...hey my opinion so dont take it personally but even if u r just starting out or a superstar theres only a limit u can pass off when it comes to covers plus theres some songs u just cant touch (this doesnt mean u cuz ur choice of songs to covers has been cool in my opinion)...like with everything in life everything needs a balance 🙂
 
If you guys want the honest truth, I don't like the freestyle song that I just did, but I was asked told to do it, because my original wasn't complete.

It's too bad the label makes you do covers when, quite frankly, your original stuff is better!!!

I pump songs like "Something in my Heart", "I'll Keep Searching", "Forbidden Lies", "Back To Me", "Who's Crying Now", etc. all the time. I hardly ever listen to the covers.

You missed "En Mis Suenos", one of my personal faves and very underrated. 😉
 
Hey Elissa, I think that all of your songs are awsome, especially "I Can't Stop". That's just one of my fav's. Your song "Right Here Waiting" is a big hit down here in Louisiana. I know a DJ down here and he play's it all the time.
 
Elissa, It's good to see you posting again. While I can understand your label wanting you to make the post that you did, I also think that being the artist you are, honest, real and true criticism from your fans should not be met with such defensiveness. I would have thought after 8-9 years you would have grown a much thicker skin by now.

It's one thing to do a few covers, but the timing on this one is totally off. Everyone is coming out with covers, and the last release we heard from you was also a cover. So you can see why people are sick of hearing covers and questioning whether the artists have it anymore. If they've gotten lazy or the creative well has dried up or what?

We all know the work you've done, you've been gracious to let us know, but when you're evaluated on the songs you're performing the fact that you have written songs for other artists doesn't come into play. Especially if people think a current song is not so great and you turn around and say "I wrote so and so's song". If that one is better than the one you're singing people are going to wonder why you're giving your good stuff away, or they'll question whether you really wrote that song. I'm not accusing you, just making an observation and playing devil's advocate.

The dance artist is a fragile career, and the freestyle artist is almost extinct. Their work is only as good as their public. If people like their work, then they get to make more music. If the fans start to turn, then that artist's days become numbered. Unless the criticisms from the people buying the cd's and requesting the music are listened to. People don't have brand loyalty anymore for the most part. It's the product. People no longer go I want to hear so and so as much as they say THAT song is awesome! Play it again!

That's why there are new, up and coming artists making it, getting recognition. An artist can only ride their previous success for so long. Then they either have to put up or shut up.

You've proven that you can write and perform good songs, so to be perfectly honest why you would perform a song you didn't want to, that went against your better judgement and that you didn't like is beyond me. I would have thought by now you'd also have the clout to refuse to do a song that you thought was below par and rushed. You have your career to think about and fans these days are fickle, so if they've come to expect a certain level of quality from you, don't be surprised when they're critical of anything less. You yourself admitted you weren't all that happy with this cover. If it were me, I'd rather not do a job at all than do one that was not to my standards.

I wouldn't mind hearing a cover of "Yo No Se" 🙂.

But seriously, I think we're being a little too hard on Elissa. Artists don't always have say in all these matters, and sometimes covers DO explode into big hits (at least when they are well done). Look at Joee's "Died In Your Arms". As she said, she is working on an original song but it just isn't ready yet, so let's wait and see.
 
Bah, all I know is the song's decent... don't know why you guys are being so harsh on her. She's released some incredible songs before, once in a while it's alright to release a luke warm track, whether it's a cover or not.
 
Bah! I'm not being harsh. I've said she's put out good music and she knows her stuff. The market is flooded with covers right now and people are complaining about it. Elissa made posts about the song and I just responded to her and others' comments and made some of my own.

I'm not hating on the girl or taking away from her accomplishments, just making some valid observations, posing valid questions, and expressing valid feelings.
