Elissa, my earlier post was a presumption based on my observations. Nothing more, nothing less. In my opinion, the show has gone downhill, and I just assumed that was the reason for its cancellation. I apologize if my presumption was wrong, but I stand by my opinion.

P.S. And if you really feel that way about the Frenzy, then you will be happy that it's gone.

Not true.

During the first 5 years (or so) of the Frenzee, I don't think I missed a single episode. It was the highlight of my week. To suggest I would be "happy" about the show's cancellation would be just plain wrong.

However, I must admit that I lost interest and only listened to the show intermittently over the past little while, so I'm not as devastated as everyone else seems to be.

I was much more heartbroken when Power 88.5 cancelled their freestyle show. I'm still getting over the emotional scars of that one. :sosad

P.S.S. BTW It was Energy 108, & The U.S. (Metropolitan Records) Not Z103 who broke both Joee & Myself into the Freestyle Music Scene, in 1995-1996.

Yes, but it was the Frenzee that gave you the exposure to make you a star! I was endorsing the Frenzee with my comment, not criticizing it. I'm sorry if I made it sound that way.

P.S. Elissa, I still think you're mad cool! :hyes

this is awful news. hope another station has sense and picks up tony's show.

frenzy

Honestly, I hate to say this but im actually happy its gone. I was a huge fan of the show until the past 2 years. I just became totally turned off at the fact that there were NEW freestyle singers and songs coming out...yet I found that the frenzy would always play the same Sh**! Everytime I would tune in to listen, I would hear a "freestyle remix" of a dance song! Now why would I want to hear a few extra beats added in? I WANT TO HEAR ORIGINALITY! I think the frenzy was just losing its touch. Everything does eventually.

Besides, things like this can open up the doors for new things to come. Maybe someone else will take the ideas of the frenzy and create a NEW show. WHO KNOWS!!! Just look to the positives and keep the frenzy in our memories. Something good will come out of it...im sure!

hey gina i also found that "remix" idea annoying. it did make me not want to listen to the frenzy but u gotta admit it did give you a reason to listen to z on those boring sundays because they occasionally play new tracks that really are nice. i'm not happy it's gone.

but i wonder.. did anyone ever suggest that the station play freestyle from the US, it's not as marketable overall but to me it's a hell of a lot more marketable than remixes. freestyle was played from germany, why didn't tony ever play new-school from the US (that wasn't progressive). one track i think deserved airplay was eyra gail - heaven. so nice, why didn't it succeed..

Remixes showcased local dj talent. The demise of the frenzy had nothing to do with its popularity in the airwaves; in fact, ratings were up year after year and the station reported an increase of 10% for this past season. Furthermore, Z103 OWNED that timeslot (for the freestyle frenzy from 5-6PM ET). So the formula WAS right; just the station's ownership itching for some form of change in the hope of what, I don't know and it is irrelevant anymore.

What we need is a 24/7 dance station, like they have in Miami (Party 93.1). There is now another station that plays dance and freestyle 24/7 in florida, in the city of Melbourne and Cocoa Beach. It is the Space Coast 93.1. I was driving through last week and heard 2 or 3 freestyle songs in an hour and a half.

The dance radio phenomenon will spread, and Z103.5 will be left in the dust when dance becomes the hot new genre and pop/R&B/hip-hop becomes yesterday's trash.

tarp would u happen to know if the stations u mentioned 93.1 are streamed on the net? i'd love to check them out

Here in the Cali. West Coast we have a yearly "Freestyle Explosion" They mostly play the sameol sameol , and for a while there was fear of the event fadeing away because of the "death of freestyle" but sep.2003 was packed!!! for some reason, People from evry where came- It gave hope to alot of us .

I prey that Freestyle Frenzy will return with a fury!! just get a hold of Tony Manaco and get some Info, maybee its a temporary shut down due to finances or something. Any wayz I love Canada's style and think alot of the artist and music is off the hook!! I wish Canada the best!!!!!!!!

I know I haven't been around here in ages, but I just wanted to say that I was shocked. I got a call from Jade last week or so and she told me that the Frenzy was dead! I was in awe; I know I am no longer a freestyler, but it doesn't mean I am not sad to see the music die in this city. I guess it does explain why I rarely to listen local radio stations now, dry ass music. Way too much hip hop/r&b rubbish, sorry, not my kinda music.
Anyway, time to boycott Z103! 😉

Oh, if you're wondering what kinda music I am into now... well it's pretty much Euro/Vocal Trance...

hey Eluder great to see u post...

too bad u r no longer a freestyler 🙂

altho i love euro, house and vocal trance... freestyle will stay in my heart forever and forever will i support 😀

I still like freestyle, no doubt, but I just don't seek it out like I used to. I guess I went back to my European roots. 🙂

Hey everybody, I just want to say that I am very dissapointed in z103. Cancelling the Frenzy even though it had a 10% increase, goes to show that it's all about what the bosses want. There's an old saying and that's "You Can't Fix What's not broken", and the Frenzy was not broken. I'd like to thank Tony Monaco for all he has done, but I guess the Evanov family wants z103 to be just like "Much Music". To me it's all a bunch of bullsh*t and I will not be apart of it.

i totally miss the frenzy as well. it sucks without it. nothing to look forward to on sunday. for real though, its stupid, the reason to cancel the show. they thought taking off the show and playing regular rotation and more r&b and hiphop would bring higher ratings than having the frenzy played. for real the frenzee will be missed. r.i.p. for sure. it is true, Z103.5 doesn't care about the listeners. no matter how many signatures we get, they won't do sh*t about it. they'll be like whatever. i luve the frenzy!!! now all thats left to do is listen to my old freestyle cds. i hope in time they'll realize how much the frenzy affects their ratings. hardly anyone i knoe listens to them anymore. i still listen to tony monaco from 1-4pm. don't they know that if they keep playing all that r&b and hiphop, they'll turn into kiss 92 or sound more like flow 93.5. Z103.5 was known for the beatz, edge 102 is known for rock, flow is known for r&b and hiphop. what happens now? wut will Z be known for now?
