Ok I'm going to get hell from this. I never come in here and put ANYone down or anything like that. But I got to bring this point up and I hope I get some good comments about it. This is NOT directed to anyone in particular ,Please respond..........

Gentlemen:
For the past five to six years I have seen a change. Maybe Im wrong. But I feel that most of the photos I have seen from showsin the past couple of years , every single new school MALE artist looks like a rapper. Dont get me wrong, I like that style, maybe Im old school. But I remember when a Male Freestyle artists used to wear a phat suits, nice rings, and maybe a diamond earing. Now it sunglass, du-rags and baggy clothes. I cant even tell who is who anymore. Lookin like rappers in a jay-z video.Faceless music with no face, cause everyone is hiding thier face behind glasses and hats and stuff. Let me see your face so I can know who is who when I purchase your albums, or when I go see you live. Take a look at george lamond , theres a perfect example of what im speaking of. Clean shaven, looking fresh, always in a suit and has style, class, finesse ( remember these words fellas?). You dont have to spend $1000 on a suit bro. Nice dress shirt will even do fine. I know the ladies can agree with me on this. I dont have a problem at all with the "casual" look. But come on there has to be ONE MAle NEW SCHOOL ARTIST out there thats unique in his fashion. The New school ladies ALWAYS look good in their outfits because EACH and every one of them is unique in their OWN STYLE,plus they take their time building an image for the public. This is what MAle artists are missing . Bottom line MAle artists of freestyle. This is why they call it FREE-"STYLE" Now find a GQ magazine, get some "STYLE" and pick it up and look for something unique that makes you stand out.

Please respond with creative and well thought out responses please. I can't change noone but I can at least create A GOOD topic of discussion.

This is one lady that def agrees with you!!! Point well made Tito...

Hey JR. This will create a topic of discussion alright! I agree with you especially in your use of George as a good example. I worked for George 92-94, and one thing that man has is STYLE! Always looked presentable and classy, whether it was when he was performing or sitting at an airport in Texas @ 7am after a 1am show. Hope the response on your topic is positive..

well tito good point mi pana i been wonderin about that also myself and i ask the same question.....why? but maybe i can understand where they comin from cuz maybe they tryin to show their taste in clothes know what i mean?

now im goin to speak for myself, let just say i was an artist for an example i myself got many styles i like to use and whatever which one i choose to do i know i'll do it with class and with decensy cuz i know for a fact that no one can say that alex dress like a bum one day

like i said, im a suit man...i love suits and i know i look van damne good in one lol and i know that i dont gotta spend hundreds in a suit when i know that i can get the same one somewhere else more cheaper know what i mean? a suit is what make the man look like mac daddy that makes the ladies say "diablo mira que papi tan bonito" cuz they know when they see a man in a suit they know that hes all shower up, has a nice cologne on and is ready to do his thing but sometimes tito puttin on a suit everytime gets kind of borin for some ppl if u the type that doesnt like to sweat then u can understand why they dont put it on esp on stage

the thug look- now i myself like to dress alittle thuggish at times but this doesnt mean this style is my fav im not the type that u can say that wear these gold chains and rings that ppl call these days the BLING BLING now i never was a materialistic person and i dont think i will ever be one cuz i feel if god hasnt put in front of me the money to buy these stuff it was bcuz for a reason but for the nu skool artist that u say has these things when they perform on stage u can also understand they wanna show the bad boy image u know? cuz girls love that shit the ones that grew up in the old skool times are much different than the one from now lately when u somewhere in public all u see is these pretty young girls who be walkin with these fake ass thugs that have their pants way down pass their ass showin their undies and u be like wtf! so havin this kind of look is what attracts ladies

casual- now if u the type that loves to dress comfortable u know u got it made havin somethin on that looks cute will get u notice believe me and if an artist is humble as i am he/she would go up on that stage and wear what their heart makes them feel comfortable with so let it be clear!! if i was an artist like i said b4 im dressin for me and for me only and nobody else and thou u wanna look good for ur fans ok thats understandable but the point should be is that when a artist goes on stage and performs he/she is committed by doing their job by singing the songs that fans love to hear and bringing a smile to ppl's faces so an artist whether nu or old skool shouldnt be critize due to by what they wear on stage now u can look like a bum but if ur humbleness shows up on stage and touches someones heart thats what counts is my opinion

People change with the times. Artists are no different. would you respect Michael Jackson if you saw him on stage with his red leather jacket with all the zippers and his white glove? You would be like "dam thats OLD!"

Freestyle artists have always shown how classy they looked back in the day. But like I said, times are changing. The "dress up" look is still that "in". Dont you remember when TKA was dressing all "thug"? Nothing wrong with. It just shows that the artists are changing too.

I agree times are changing and rememeber where freetyle started with hip hop and to me it has nothing to do with class......who says only rapers dress that way are we being stere typical.????II mean suits are sexy too but so are the hip hop looks ....

Tito, I remember back in the day when the guys used to dress to impress, when you could tell them apart from the crowd..lol but now like you said, it's all different. I particularly am not impressed with the hiphop attire, but what can you do? like melissa said some people like that look.

But trust me I know what you mean about how it used to be back in the day. And I know some people will say, like Kenny, well that was back in the day, now we must move on, but you see that is why alot of peeps still hold on too "back in the day" because that is when peeps cared about thier appearance and thier presentation, and wanted to make sure that they were remembered. you still see some "Old School" performers that care about what they look like.

But I am feelin you on this one brotha😉 how the hell are ya? Mira I am here in Orlando now coño, we need to meet up!

Dont get me wrong, Naya....I loved the look BUT I cant see myself getting into my CAVARICCI's, white KEDS and cardigan sweater and hitting the clubs! (with a dash of DRAKKAR, too!)

I agree with Tito
i hate when i go to shows and the fans are nicer dressed the the artist
i just hate seeing a guy in something that fits about 3 of him.
but thats just my taste

lmao@Kenny! like Diane would let you leave the house dressed like that!..lololol

I saw Freejack looked dressy as always, and Cool Al from qns, looked like he was on the prowl..lolol

Tito...Im in complete agreement with you on this subject!!! I always think that class will get you far...no matter if you are a singer, a lawyer, or an ordinary joe. I love when guys are clean shaven and dressed nicely....I always admire the way George looks...and you always look great too!!! I honestly cant understand why people would want to dress like thugs..I personally dont see anything nice about it at all. Give me a guy in a nice button down shirt anyday!!

Tito good topic, in my opinion the day of the clean cut pretty boy male artist singing Freestyle music is over .

Take Nu Image for example we are by no means trying to be hip hop rappers, but we do want to spark the intrest of a younger generation and let them know that this music can have an edge as well as appeal to the average teenager who also listens to hip hop.

On the same note I think you can still dress presentable on stage by fusing the 2 looks .
So you take dress slacks a nice mock neck a leather 3 quater jacket some accessories like shades, a leather bandana some rings and you have a classy yet rugged look that can work, well I think it works for Nu Image anyway.

We need to reach all audiences and that especially includes the urban youth, who I could see appreciating the look as opposed to look of yesterday, which inturn may spark their intrest in even taken a listen to our music and give it a chance.

I think an image is important and people need to have something to identify with.
it's even going on in the latin market with Reggaeton, most artists I have seen singing reggaeton have been wearing team jerseys baggy jeans and team baseball caps, yet it works for them , not everyone but for some.

Good Topic 😉

Tito-

Great topic. I'm happy to see that someone brought it up. I look at all the photos from previous shows within the past two years and not much has changed with the individual styles of the male artists. There are a few exceptions, but to me they look like regular people coming right off the street. It's very distasteful. Baggy jeans, timbs, and oversized rugby's or polo's just ain't cutting it in 2003. Leave that shit where it belongs- back in the early to mid 90's.

Dress to impress? No. But here's a few tips, man. Go to Banana Republic, or even Armani Exchange and pick up a nice pair or boot cut jeans or pants with a nice belt, and a nice fitted shirt and look different for once. Or go to Banana Republic and get a pair of boot cut Khaki's with a nice, button-up, stretch long-sleeve shirt. There's so many other options than that tired-ass thug look. This is Freestyle, not Hip-Hop.

To be honest with you, I look at these pics and laugh because not one of you guys stands out from dudes I be seeing in the streets. It's really a turn-off. George, Noel, Sam Savon, and maybe a few others actually do look good when they perform because they are groomed to the "T".

How is anyone going to respect you looking like that? I wouldn't. To me you're just like everyone else. If you're going to perform, look like you're going to be walking down the Red Carpet.

A voice is a voice, but give us the whole package.

I'm just putting this out there- but if ANY artist needs a Wardrobe Assistant, full-time or part-time, I'll happily take you up on the offer. Seriously.

Or you can always watch Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (because we all know some of you can benefit from that).

Very good points friends. I'm feeling what all of you are sayin. We don't want 8o's style we need the future. Mel "STyle, class and finesse " are just words I got from an old rap tune thats all. I think all the new school guys have class. And skills as well. Nu image ( as we can see clearly from the photos) has a unique style, in which they intergrate and complement each other by wearing separate styles of clothing from each other. Plus they are a GROUP which make them more entertaining and unique to watch. The other thing with NU image is that they present themselves properly with photos at the shows and they make sure you know who they are as they introduce themseleves on stage. Thats what some of the other artist lack. They expect us to know since I seen their pic on a computer im suppose to know them live on stage. The average person, (and i know this is a fact) doesnt know what half these new school people look like until they go on a stage and have to sing at least the first three lines of there songs." OH YEAH ,THATs THE ONE THAT SINGS THAT SONG, RRRRRIGHT" (tell me you havent heard that before poeple?)Ditto.

What about everyone else, where are you guys at? Ladies help me out here. Where are the other new school fellas, please respond. Also im not talking about suits, Im talking about STYLE.
