here we go...for another discussion (this time nothing to do with cars...lol)! I want your opinion on this!

Remember Pino's thread about euro remixes = freestyle??? this is similar...wanna hear ur opinion on things, daz all!

Are u ready????????????????????????????

Here

we

go!!!😛

In your own words - describe the difference between freestyle and breakbeat!
When you hear a break beat remix...what's the first song that pops into your head??? When u hear that song...do u say: "oh this track should have been made freestyle to begin with!" or do you say "DJ's should stop remixing tracks into freestyle..." 😕

Here is a list of some breakbeat remixes, in case u dont know what im talking about:
ONE MORE TIME - DAFT PUNK (breakbeat remix)
CASTLE'S IN THE SKY - IAN VAN DAHL (850 Break Mix)
SEXUAL - AMBER (Dj Trashy Break Mix)
RAPTURE - IIO (Dj Tahp Remix)
SILENCE - SARAH MCLAUGHLIN (Delirium Breakbeat Mix)
TOCA'S MIRACLE - FRAGMA (GHB Breakbeat Mix)
HEAVEN - DJ SAMMY FEAT. YANOU (Dj Exquisite Mix)
😉

Well, breakbeats as we know them to be are a product of the early 80's. My defintion of freestyle is: breakbeats + lyrics of a tragic (in most cases) romance. So, a breakbeat is simply the part of a typical freestyle song, instrumentally speaking. (Just my opinion) 🙂

thx anthony!!!🙂

im juss wondering bcuz...once i was listening to the radio and i heard a breabeat remix of a track...and my friend said: oh thats the new freestyle track???? and she seemed a little confused when she said that....so i juss wanted every1's opinion on this one!😉

I know what ya mean. It's such a touchy situation, but to me, if the "right song" has a breakbeat version, it can qualify as freestyle. Obviously, the song needs to be centered around a love story and for me to consider it freestyle, needs to be in a certain BPM range.

Anyway, a great example of what I mean is the song "My Favorite Girl" by New Kids On The Block. I have a special promo only record of this song and it has a freestyle version! It was remixed by the legendary Chris Barbosa and Mark Ligett. To prove this version was freestyle, as was the song in this particular format, I brought it over my friend's house one night. My other friend was there too. I told them both to not look at the record, just to listen and tell me if they liked it. Well, to no suprise, they liked it alot and that's when I said...heheee...you guys like New Kids On The Block! LOL

ok i understand that....so here's the question im try to say: do u think that breakbeat is a genre on its own...or should it be titled as a part of new schhol freestyle???

listen to these trax and tell me what u think:
DUCK TOY - DJ BLITZ
COMMUNICATION (breakbeat mix) - ARMIN
😉

^ I don't know those songs. Breakbeat is in the same family as electro funk (I assume you know what electro funk is ex: Hashim, Afrika Bambaataa, etc). You're making it sound as if Breakbeat is a new sub genre/genre of music. It's been around for more than 2 decades. It's part of freestyle's earliest roots. So, it has been it's own sub genre for the longest time.

yes i know that...i juss mean if u should classify breakbeat (on its own) its own genre??? Ok - here's what im trying to say...is it fair to say that breakbeat could only be classified as a form of freestyle??? artists such as afrika bambataa or could you say that dj blitz is also a true breakbeat artist???

Like, can breakbeat be seperated from other genres such as freestyle??? or is it only a sub heading!

Much like electro, it could fit into practically anything. It depends how the producer is using it I suppose. Breakbeats in it of itself, are just instrumentals. So again, it can be combined, and has been for the longest time, not with only freestyle. It's been a part of hip hop, house, etc...

there u go anthony! thats what im looking for...well kind of...😉

ok...yes breakbeat has been a part of many genres - but is it a genre on its own. In my opinion yes it is. 🙂

now i juss wanna know what every1 else thinks about it...😉

Huh?

This thread soundz awfully familliar?
Are we beating a dead horse?
My Sweet Vixen! As I've killed this topic in the past. I'll give my 2 BRIEF cents!

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU WANNA CALL IT!
AS LONG AS IT SHAKES THE PASSANGERS IN THE CARS AROUND YOU...
THEN IT'S SLAMMIN!!!!!😉

YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW😉
(special note: ITR's & Cavaliers rock 😉!)

daz my opinion! Much Nubb :hearton

ok, i consider breakbeat just kinda like freestyle. when it sounds so remix-ish it's unnatural... and it can't be freestyle even though it has a beat. like silverblue - do you know (sounds too euro-ish) is that fine?
