For those who think Freestyle will die, think again. I can't see into the future but one think I know, when salsa started back in the days it was actually called 'Mambo' and it really did not have a lead singer like it does today. It wasn't really accepted. You had the major players like Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez who brought Mambo to where it should have been but as Mambo evolved it wasn't accepted and it had more downs than ups. In the 70's it exploded with players like the Fania all stars and the real Mambo Kings, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and many more then again it slowed down with the boom of Merengue music. Now in the new Millenium, Salsa has evolved to the likes of Marc Anthony, George Lamond, India and Brenda K. Starr who started thier singing career in Freestyle and House music are common names both in Salsa and Dance/Freestyle music. In my opinion we need strong performers to keep the genre alive and one thing is for sure, it's been around longer than disco. So to all my fellow performers: Be the best at what you can do and it's never too late to believe in your dreams.....
