The title says "freestyle" which would lead one to believe that the songs on it are freestyle.

However, I saw a comp once (It may be the one you're talking about Kenny) that actually had "All This Time" by TIFFANY on the list.

We all KNOW that Tiffany is NOT freestyle. So maybe it's not freestyle.....



HOWEVER, your reason that just because it's not on any freestyle comp is not valid. Alta Dustin's "One Man Woman" and Natasha's "Be Gentle With My Heart" (as far as I know) have never been on any freestyle comps....does that make them not freestyle?

It depends on what the listener thinks it is. There are a few people I know who don't think Sandee`'s "Love Desire" is freestyle, but I remember the review that Billboard Magazine gave the single when it came out, and I quote:

"This song (much like TKA's "Louder Than Love") expand the parameters of freestyle, and may help the sound develope further."

My opinion, once again, it is mid tempo freestyle.


When the 80's rock bands released what would later be called "power ballads" you didn't hear the the fans of these bands saying these songs weren't rock. I used to hang with a ton of burnouts, and they considered the songs "rock" as well as the loud rock songs.
 
Chuck, I remember back in the day when i called many songs just "freestyle" but thanks to RHOQ, FERNANDO and a slew of others, they have showed me the light and i now see the difference. maybe others will see it too!! (HINT-HINT, BOYS!!)

I think Expose's Let Me Be The One could best be categorized as a mid-tempo 80's pop song. Not a full out dance track, but not a slow jam either. Just good 80's pop.

People you have to keep in mind that just because a freestyle act records a ballad or mid-tempo song that doesn't make it a freestyle song. As a matter of fact it is quite the opposite....

When the freestyle artists started getting signed by the major record labels, the label's A&R people were grooming them for crossover success. What does that mean? It means that even though these acts were known for their freestyle hits, the label wanted to turn them into pop acts. How do you do that? You have the freestyle act record an album that caters mostly to that freestyle sound that they are known for but you also have them record a few "mainstream" songs. If you notice the way Arista released the singles from "Exposure" it was: 1. Come Go With Me, 2. Point of No Return, 3. Let Me Be the One, and 4. Seasons Change. The last 2 singles were not freestyle songs but they were big hits for them. It was the beginning of Expose's departure from freestyle and into the pop realm. "Point of No Return" was not followed up with "I Know You Know" because Arista wanted to make Expose appeal to the masses and that means delivering singles that will expose (no pun intended!) them to a wider audience.

As for the CDs that come out now a days bearing the title "Freestyle's Greatest Ballads" or anything else corny like that..... There never was such a thing as a Freestyle Slow Jam. Record companies just use marketing gimmicks like this when they are releasing compilations in the hopes that people will eat it up and they can sell units.

Nah but, in the 12" version form, it's gotta slight electro-freestyle undertone. But I think it's just typical 80's dance-pop.

I can dance to Judy;s stuff. I have back in my younger days. she dances to her own stuff as well. havent ya seen her on stage?

ok guido im from canada which means she never comes here. sure i would go to one of her shows if i got the chance, though, all u guys say they're great. SHE'S GREAT.

yup clubfossil i cant dance to judy's stuff. one reason: i've never seen anyone do it before.
