Im totally feelin this post for sure.I did something very close to that with my song "lied to me" but all the hardcore freestylerz said it wasnt freestyle..😱(
Eventhough it had a lot of freestyle elements..chord structure, harmonies, and format of song mixed with pop vocals and completely new type of subject matter that identified with todays society and mentality.Does anyone remember or feel me on this??Jack G do you remember when we was chattin about this thang about a year ago LOL
Now I feel much better at least other folks have ideas kinda like mine(i dont feel so alone now LMAO)Props to K-7!!! great minds think alike.

Regarding the idea of bringing elements of other types of dance music into Freestyle in order for it to evolve, that is exactly what is happening here in Canada. The only difference is artists here have been combining Freestyle with elements of Euro and High Energy dance music as opposed to Hip-Hop. Elissa is one of the most prominent artists doing this. This method has actually been very successful - Z103.5 actually plays freestyle in their regular rotation (and I mean NEW freestyle, not old!) and her song "Back to Me" was a massive mainstream hit. It was on their year-end countdown last year alongside artists such as Britney and Nsync. When was the last time you could say that about a Freestyle song!!!

about Freestyle's new level

I like the excellent idea K7 and most of you have. A couple of weeks ago, I was listening to some freestyle: Charlie Rock, "you take me higher", among others, just to be kind of bored with the love theme, especially the usual "I love you girl." I have nothing against that, but if we are talking about changes, I think that one of them can be by editing old songs, like this one, and perhaps our luck will be better.

Im all for it..a change wouldnt hurt..as long as it has that feeling..its all good..🙂

sorry,
i think the ideas of progressing freestyle on this site
i agree with rhoq's earlier comments about the BPM's.
also you can only change freestyle so much before it isn't freestyle anymore. we will probably disagree later on my post since i like new school west coast freestyle.
kennyfreestyle- i like your work, but don't think "lied to me" sounded freestyle at all. i heard the version they played on power 105.5 in cali and it was a hip hop/r&b version. but i also heard another version that sounded a little faster, but would never consider it freestyle.

this is a better way to progress. but too much euro or trancy elements in it will eventually lead to it becoming more trance or euro than freestyle. i think to a point though, it is a good idea.

the way freestyle should be progressed is how it has happened on the west coast a few years ago. angelina, jossette, rosalinda, sharyn maceren, jocelyn enriquez. i don't see how some of you guys fail to see that. what happened when these artists came out in the late 90's? they got airplay on radio from San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, San Diego, Stockton, Modesto, and even spread to other parts of the country (minus KTU). I heard Jossette "In A Dream" on a major Houston radio station about 2 or 3 years ago. I have heard Jocelyn Enriquez "Do You Miss Me" or "A Little Bit Of Ecxstacy" in places like Key West, Florida, and even the anti freestyle Cox Party 93.1 in Miami has played her song. not to mention how big it was on the west coast. why did it go away? because they simply stopped making these types of songs. it's not like it died. jossette left freestyle, jocelyn enriquez did too with her new more housey album (notice she has had less success), angelina came back with a second album that wasn't as strong (but she still did get several songs into rotation at radio stations), and other artists had babies or went back to school or something else. but the progressive west coast freestyle needs to be looked into more.

the forgotten ones

I agree with cafreestyler: at some point there was, let's say, new freestyle. Angelina, Lina Santiago, Jocelyn Enriquez, Rockell were getting lots of airplay here in New York's KTU. However, they, along with their later singles, were abandoned. I only heard once Jocelyn's "Close to me", which I think is a great song. The problem also is that KTU does not play any freestyle anymore, even if you request them. They play other artist that will be, like the Spice girls, into oblivion sooner or later. And this is the power of Freestyle; it never disappears.

I'm so sorry to be opinionated. But Euro sucks. Period. That's just me. That's taking what you really love "Old School Latin Hop Hop aka Freestyle" and pushing it back toward as the bastard child of dance music again. Which is the main reason for lackadasical sales in the genre. Too many different options and sub divisions.

What we are trying to accomplish with this thread is to bring freestyle back to it's original essence, and then going forward from there. Euro will not help the situation. It will not succeed in getting this music the respect it craves. Like Em said, "Nobody listens to Techno!" No offense if you do.

What we want is a younger audience to respect what we are doing, and going back to being a lower form of dance ain't gonna help.

Again, I only live this life(style) everyday, I have my finger on the pulse of what these industry types want..But I guess at the end of the day, all it really is, is my opinion. Professional or not.
You guys gotta get on the same page somehow.

We are pitching these ideas to producers and performers alike. If you are only offering what you wanna hear and have no real intentions of making the music, then this is not for you. Again no offense. To start a movement we need doer's, not just talkers. Sorry but I can't help it but that's the real.

tybless,
i do see what your are saying but think the end result will end up sounding too much like hip hop or r&b.

about-
"Nobody listens to Techno!"
no offense taken, but then why is it that dance stations are popping up all over the country? just this year- miami, san francisco, denver, i'm probably forgetting a few. and rumors of los angeles, phoenix and several other cities getting dance stations soon. alot more people listen to it than you think. funny how eminem's beat is kind of dancey.

i agree with the idea of trying new things with freestyle music, in order to reach out to new fans freestyle artist need to try new and different things to get the music noticed.. i agree with tony!!!
muahzzzz good luck on the album

my thoughts are this
experiment with the bpm's but dont slow it down too much, or the freestyle freaks will notice, and i would also support singin about something other than love. sing about some other issues. the times we are in now in this world should inspire plenty of lyrics!!!! music lyrics always mirror the time in history that it was created in...

a pioneer speaks [thanks stevie]
my idea of the bpms is one the would make us move with the times the biggest fan base we can find are all under the age of twenty "hi crystal" and they need this movement [notice the word movement] to appeal to them they are the key.those who love the speed of the song,s back in the day are now parents of this new generation [hi crystals parents].this generation was raise more with the sounds tupac shakur ,sean combs mary j blige ,as oppose to stevie b ,tka , sweet sensation, that being so its the music they gravited more towards .its what they are willing to accept more then our stuff .look freestyle or latin hip hop as it was named at birth must grow to be more like one parent than the other .in my case i believe that it should be hip hop because hip hop beats are as aggresive as our beats were and it will be embraced by more people . it should also carry things from dance [pop if you will] and that should be lyrical content and melody which is the foundation of the freestyle song.
stevie you are one of the leaders of this and you know as well as me that lyricly the content will remain the same until the idea forms in the mind of that writer [ but i wish us all the luck]
read my new post this one is too long
