well my opinon is Shannon is freestyle.her songs are in a bunch of my freestyle mixes and freestyle comps.plus, sounds like freestyle to me.TO ME...it is freestyle. yeah that IOU song sounds like disco or somethin. lol. that dont sound anything like freestyle.🙂

You have to remember that there are also songs that I call "transition".. those songs are what bridge disco to freestyle...I think "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 is one of those songs...Shannon is definitly Freestyle because I have heard electronica....sorry, she's not in that catergory....plus she has the official title of the "Grandmother of Freestyle"...or is It "Godmother"... I forget.

i agree about the transition. thats my whole point. from electrofunk came the development of freestyle. in which yes shannon, is clearly a transitional song of freestyle.
sorry but vanity 6 nasty girl???
i think that can be classified as funk no?

BTW electronica is a 90s thing.
in regards to electrofunk, it seems that the early beats from this era done by people like arthur baker & john robie seemed to get in the fs category.
same goes with HASHIM'S AL-NAAFIYSH = electrofunk, not fs!!!

so here's one for you guys...
LOLEATTA HATHAWAY "CRASH GOES LOVE" 1984
freestyle or electrofunk???

oh yeah, IMO
the only reason that let the music play gets on the freestyle list is because its the biggest gino anthem of all time!!!

from a former italina guido!

Freestyle...And one of my favotites as well.

Anyways the first REAL Freestyle song, that contains all of the elements that Freestyle is known for is "LET THE MUSIC PLAY" by Shannon (Fall, 1983)

Hashim is definitely not Freestyle. It is Electrofunk, but Electrofunk has it's own place in Freestyle history since Freestyle was built heavily around the emerging sound of Electrofunk. I sometimes use electrofunk classics like "CLEAR" by Cybotron and "ELECTRIC KINGDOM" by Twilight 22 in Freestyle mixes since they work so beautifully together, but I also know the difference and would never label an Electrofunk classic as Freestyle.

I have always believed the first freestyle song to be "Please Don't Go" by Nayobe. That's not to say that the roots of the song don't lie elsewhere, but for me, "Please Don't Go" was the first.

I still can't figure out why "Let The music Play" would not be considered freestyle.

😕

It had Latin keyboards and a definite freestyle beat and was produced by Chris Barbosa.

:blah
told you kenny!!! LMAO 😛

Shannon "Let the music play" = 1st Freestyle song.

If you call to Chris barbosa, and you tell him that his song is not Freestyle , well, i think, you will see him laughing for few minutes.

Just my opinion.:blah

Francis

I couldn't agree more Francis. And the repetitive stutters in the "give me tonite (club mix)" were definitely ahead of their time; you can play that track today and people still go wild in its original version. The production is still play worthy and those stutters paved the way for many more imitations in freestyle tracks until today. The stutters may not be the best way I can describe them, perhaps repetitive samples as heard in Buffy "give me a reason"
in one of many many that have resorted to it.

nope, I even went as far as asking the singer Shannon herself once and she doenst consider it "FREESTLE". Sorry to burst your bubble, Francis!

I Won't Stop Loving You by C-Bank is hella good! Its has that old school sound so you know its one of the first. I always believed it was Planet Rock by Soul Sonic Force (I love bumpin that song loud in a car) was the first Estilo Libre track since obviously thats where the famous planet rock beat came from.
