lol......
my answer to those questions is so long..
but yes, i do consider planet patrol and newcleus to be BOTH earlyhiphop part of the oldschool hiphop movement and freestyle part of the electrofunk/dance movments. it all came out of the same place in the early 80's and has not died out ..
back then, those records were a MUST at any freestyle party, club, roller rink etc.
it was all ROLLER RINK MUSIC.club music. street music.
it was allhapening at the same time..it also overlaped withing genre over genre. rap, electrofunk, earlyfreestyle and r&B.
what makes a song freestyle is prodominantly melodies and harmonies. but there is so much more that all cant be said at this moment.
true freestyle experimented with beats, harmonies, etc and was not restricted. restrictions and limitations came after the "industry" steped in and set the rules and catogorized in order to MARKET the genre and sell units. but it goese beyond that.
its a soul thang!
i consider madonas record to be a breaks record. but not a freestyle breaks record. once again i use diana fox "Where are you now" as an example of a freestyle breaks record.you got lyrics, melodies, harmonies etc.
but you dont always need melodies and harmonies to be a frestyle record.
they come in diferent styles. they always had.
its an art form acording to the producer. or at least thats how it used to be.
