DC Nations Capital Baby!!
On Tuesday, The DC City Council made a final vote for The New Stadium Bill plan which will be built on DC's Anacosta Rive/Navy Yard Waterfront. The Plan called for a City Bond funded stadium. But, Coucil Chairwoman Linda Cropp made the vote to make the stadium privately funded. This vote has put The Washington Nationals(formerly Montreal Expos) move here in danger. DC has about til 12/31 to get something together or The Nationals will be over in NoVa or Las vegas.!!! What a Fu*king disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the City council voted to have half of the stadium costs to be privately funded. I personally I don't see aproblem with that and here is why. The sports team alway demand that the public pay for their stadium then turn around and charge outragous prices for tickets after the the brand new plush stadium is completed that the public payed for and then they keep the majority of the ticket money. That doesn't make sense to me.

Here in San Diego (small market) the Chargers are asking for a new stadium. Now here is a little background. The Chargers cut a deal with the old mayor for a ticket garauntee that would force the city to buy up all tickets that were not sold for every game in order to have the games Sold Out and they can be televised and so the Chargers wouldn't lose money. In return the Chargers would put a competitive team on the field, DIDN"T HAPPEN. BAD DEAL for the city. (Bonehead Mayor) That deal went on for about 5 years and the city lost their a$$ on it. Now that's a mistake on the cities part and during all those years was when the Chargers were dead last. Yet the team didn't lose anything and the owner was sitting like a Fat Cat since they city was paying for the sell outs.

Now I love the game of Baseball. It's my passion and it's the only game where you don't have a bunch of thugs jumping up and down and celebrating after making one good play.

I just think it's only fair for the team to carry the brunt of the expense of running a team since they reap the majority of the profits. It's at the point where I can't take my whole family to any games because I can't afford it. It would run me about $200 to $300 for a day at the ball park. Oh yeah and you gotta love those $7 16 oz. beers.

Oh yeah and I'm also for the players getting the most they can get since that's who's bringing in all the dollars.

I blame the Mayor(Mayor Anthony Williams) should have did a better job presenting the deal. Many was turned off because it looked liked he was selling out the city for Baseball(even though our school system has sucked for 30 years).

That's probably true and that would piss people off. I have my own opinion about the school systems in the US. The kids don't learn because most parents don't give a F___ about whether their kids learn or not. They just send them to school and expect the teachers to raise them.

But anyway. If the schools are falling apart, the mayor should have tried to put something in the deal for the schools. Something like that would benefit everyone all the way around. Good PR for baseball, makes the mayor look like he's doing something and makes the city council look like they're watching out for the community.

Sounds like the mayor is a dumba$$. The other tough part is that other cities are willing to sell out the community for a professional sports team. That's why the owners rake the cities over the coals when looking for a place to play.

All about the dollar. I usually side with the players because they're the ones with the talent, but the owners do take the risk.

There are a lot of stand up guys in professional sports but there are also the big headed ones that think their $hit don't stink just cause their rolling with big money. Those guys screw it up for the rest of them. It really turns the public off and that's not fair for your average ballplayer that's not an a$$hole.

The whole deal is a mess. Many say the team after 12/31 if not a deal will head back to Montreal, San Juan or Las Vegas, which are all bad ideas. DC has waited 30 years for this only to have it snatched away again!!
