Chicago's KISS-FM breaks format for "Diamond Girl" and David Torres!
With a current playlist that features Akon, # Doors Down, Kelly Clarkson and 50 Cent, Chicago's KISS-FM (103.5) recently broke their format and featured David Torres and Nice and Wild's "Diamond Girl" during the DreX Morning Show...
Last week, "Diamond Girl" was played as somewhat of a mystery song with the morning jock mistakenly naming Johnny O as the singer of the classic Freestyle cut...in addition, morning female sidekick Mel T starting talking about her days in San Antonio and her love for freestyle and "Diamond Girl" in particular...Former WCYC radio personality Gino "Rockin" Romo happened to be listening that morning, so he decided to call and and correct the artist for "Diamond Girl"-namely David Torres...Gino also had the foresight to let the KISS-FM team know that he knew David through his work at the old Prime and Tender Nightclub (currently Studio 63)...well, David was soon on the phone with the morning show where the conversation was dominated by talk of freestyle music, etc.
Just yesterday afternoon, David landed in Chicago early just to pay a surprise visit to the KISS-FM studios and sure enough, "Diamond Girl" was played, not just once, but twice. DreX even spoke of his boredom of the current format and his wish that more freestyle music should be featured...the discussion even spoke of a "Diamond Girl" Friday, or a Freestyle Friday feature. WCYC's Majic Juan and myself have been recruited to set up more interviews for the KISS-FM morning show...the same show that runs commercials in Chicago featuring Jessica Simpson!
By the way, David will perform tonight (Saturday, May 21st) at Xavier's Night Club (45th and Western Avenue in Chicago) and afterwards he'll be at a place called the Windsor Cafe (6814 Windsor and Oak Park)...as for a potential future for Freestyle at KISS-FM...who knows...
Psst....I will call David on my own celebrity hotline today at about 3:15pm on Chicago's WLUW (88.7 FM) and www.wluw.org...
