hopefully one day there will be a dance music catagory at the Grammy's

GRAMMY Awards are presented by NARAS in two dance music categories:Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording , Non-Classical, which when it first came out was called Remixer of the Year, when both dance music categories premiered at the 1997 - 40th Annual GRAMMY Awards!

Thats right 1997!
GRAMMY Awards have been awarded in two dance music categories, for five years now.

It was through years of hard work from people like Ellyn Harris at Buzz Publicity that there are GRAMMYS awarded for Dance music.

Not too many people know abot the dance music GRAMMY Awards, because they are not given out during the telecast.

They are usually awarded earlier in the day of the telecast and the winners are announced with the clasical, and world music categories as the show is going to a commercial break.

Usually nominations are mostly pop/dance songs, but, there have been some excellent exceptions over the past 5 years.

At the 2001 44th Annual GRAMMY Awards, which were awarded this past February,Best Dance Recording Grammy Winner was "All For You". Janet Jackson, artist. Steve Hodge, mixer. Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, producers.

Best Remixed Recording , Non-Classical GRAMMY Winner was Deep Dish (Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia & Sharam Tayebi),remixers of Dido's "Thank You" (Deep Dish Vocal Remix).

The choices are usually slim during the nomination period because most of the Dance music community is too cheap to pay the enrollment fee for NARAS!

Remember people, if you are not part of the solution, then you are probably part of the problem!

Anyone can join NARAS, but to be a voting member, you had to have worked on six commercially released recordings. Whether you sung, played an instrument, wrote the song, producer, mixer, remixer, DJ, wrote the albums liner notes, or deigned the artwork… You are eligible if you did that work on commercially released recordings.

So Freestyle artists and producers, if you are not already signed up- Do so now! You could one day be nominated for a GRAMMY!

Freestyle artists and producers with over 6 credits like Johnny O., Safire, Nyasia, Lil Suzy, TKA, Mickey Garcia, Adam Marano, Willie Valentin, Owen Soba, Randy Taylor Webber, are you members of NARAS?

Anyone can go to www.grammy.com for more information

I definitely agree homeboy!!!!!! The dance music world has got to become more mainstream with every style.Freestyle,Techno,House, and not just Moby.........

I am! And a voting member at that! If you are eligible to become a voting member you should do it. Especially now that they have removed the Dance catagories from the Pop section. Each voting member gets to vote in only so many catagories. By moving it out of the Pop section that means a voter really has to want to use his votes on a dance catagory as opposed to just everyone that votes pop getting to voting on it. That's the reason why artists like Lionel Richie were able to get nominated for Best Dance Single.

Excellent point John!

By-the-way John, I'm still writing for a couple magazines. If you want to flow some new stuff, I would be hapy to give some good press!

Thanks,
Jason
