Daddy Yankee

Beginning his career at the age of 13, Daddy Yankee is the most versatile rap and reggae singer from Puerto Rico, known for his ability to control both genres with such ease.

In 1992, Daddy Yankee teamed up with the renowned Puerto Rican DJ Playero and became the most recognized artist to perform with this DJ. Being the most famous rapper of Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee was invited to record in New York City with the popular American rap artist, NAS for the album "Boricua Guerrero."

Five years later in New York he had the opportunity to work on DJ Tony Touch's last record titled "The Piece Maker." Daddy Yankee has also worked with other musical genres such as merengue and salsa, recording with Grupo Mania for the production "The Dynasty."

This talented rapper also shared the stage in Puerto Rico's "Centro de Bellas Artes", one of the most important theaters in Latin America with the notable and three-time Grammy winner, Olga Tañon. A year later, he returns to the same stage and performs with Puerto Rican salsero Domingo Quiñones. Daddy Yankee then travels back to New York and appears in Big Pun's last video, "100% Percent". Big Pun was one of the six famous rappers of the group Terror Squad and Daddy Yankee had the opportunity to perform with this group in Jimmy Bronx Café.

Daddy Yankee is also known as the King of the Improv and winner of said title for 5 consecutive years in the Street Jam Reggae Awards. Other awards include best voice, best lyrics, and the most praised artist, among others. He is also known as the 30-30 for his lyrics that are based on the routine life of the streets of Puerto Rico. Thanks to his lengthy experience in this genre and his great desire to share his music with everyone, Daddy Yankee created his own website in May 2002, www. elcangri. com.

In March of this year, he completed the First Reggaeton Tour, a concert tour where he visited the cities of Philadelphia, Springfield and Boston. Daddy Yankee's track, "Posicion" can be found in the movie soundtrack "One Tough Cop". His songs and/or voice can be heard in more than 50 musical productions, which were recorded inside and out of Puerto Rico. It is for this and for his great talent (he composes all his music) that this artist is one of the most respected in the industry.

Daddy Yankee not only sings and composes all of his music, but he's also the producer of all his records. Following is a list of his most recognized work:

El Cartel de Yankee: production that gained Gold and Platinum status for selling more than 100,000 copies.

Gritos de Guerra: gained Gold status for selling more than 50,000 copies.

El Cartel De Yankee II: the most recent production that came out in March of last year selling more than 100,000 copies and receiving for Platinum status.

Haciendo Escante: Production that counts with the participation of Nicky Jam, another great artist of the Rap and Reggae genre.

Los Super Amigos: Production that also counts with the participation of Nicky Jam.

Los Homerun-es de Yankee: A compilation of all of Daddy Yankee's hits.

Daddy Yankee is one of the most promising artists that Puerto Rico has to offer, and he will surely continue to share his talents not only in the rap and reggae genre but in other genres as well.

from what i heard on his interview... he was raised in PR... and that the reason he put yankee is cuz yankee in PR means some one big...

but i still wanna know where the english came from... maybe hes a fast learner... ?

Daddy Yankee was raised in Puerto Rico
I've seen him grow up in the Rap Industry
in Puerto Rico. Starting with the movement
back in the early '90's called "Underground"
his big hits were on cassettes and were
just taped and passed around.

That's how I remember him. The first time
I heard him on the radio waves back in the '90's
here in Puerto Rico was called "The Noise".
Big hit here.

For Puerto Ricans (from the Island, which
is a bit different from New Yoricans (no offense))
Daddy Yankee is a slang which means
he's the Papi (Daddy) and he's Big Time.
I'm proud to see him grow so much as an
entertainer. Which to me still proves that
Puerto Rico is the musical bridge to the
Caribbean. I have friends in Panama
who listen to Daddy Yankee.

El daddy de las nenas !!!!!

So if he's learned English good for him.
which means he's going places. I dont care
if he speaks if rough or good so what
he's still el papi de las nenas.
